New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) slammed fellow presidential candidate Rand Paul Monday, stating that if there is another terrorist attack on US soil, everyone should blame Paul because he has “made the country weaker.”
“What Rand Paul has done to make the country weaker and more vulnerable is a terrible thing,” Christie told Morning Joe viewers. Christie specifically cited Paul’s stance against NSA surveillance, and his battle against the renewal of the Patriot Act last month, adding that “For him to raise money off it is disgraceful.”
BLAMES PAUL FOR BEING A SUPPORTER OF THE CONSTITUTION;
ACCUSES PAUL OF PRACTICING A DANGEROUS STRAIN OF LIBERTARIANISM

“As the only guy who used the Patriot Act in this race, as a former prosecutor, we’re going to look back on this, and he should be in front of hearings, in front of congress, if there’s another attack. Not the director of the FBI or the director of the CIA,” the governor said, slamming Rand Paul’s defence of the Fourth Amendment.
Christie also suggested that the only way for the US to defeat ISIS is to “arm our allies, train them, and it’s their fight.”
Christie also spent most of Sunday attacking Paul. He appeared on Fox News, defended the NSA’s bulk surveillance program, and again said that Paul’s attempts to rein in the agency have made US national security weaker.
“As we face a heightened warning on this Fourth of July weekend, what the American people need to know is that Senator Paul’s conduct has made them weaker and more vulnerable to attack,” Christie said on “Fox News Sunday.”
“He is politicizing America’s national security,” Christie said. “He has decided to make America more vulnerable to make a political point. I think it’s wrong. I think it’s dangerous.
“And how about this? If – God forbid – there were to be another attack on the United States, you know Senator Paul would be the first one dragging the CIA director and the FBI director up on Capitol Hill [to] put them under oath and criticize them for not connecting the dots and [he would] not mention, for a moment, this hypocrisy for taking away some of the tools they need to connect those dots.” Christie frothed.
Reason notes that Christie’s accusations that Paul is somehow being dishonest by fundraising off the back of his principles is bizarre:
Even more bizarre is his criticism of Paul’s fundraising. There is nothing dishonest about Paul using clips of his speeches to make appeals for donations. This is something every candidate does. The people writing checks to Paul agree with the positions he articulates in those web clips. What is so contemptible about this?
This is not the first time Christie has attacked Paul for his constitutional principles.
In 2013, Christie described Paul’s “strain of libertarianism” as “dangerous,” also claiming that the debate over the NSA was “esoteric.”
Paul’s replied by suggesting that Christie was out of touch with Americans.
“If Gov. Christie believes the constitutional rights and the privacy of all Americans is ‘esoteric’, he either needs a new dictionary, or he needs to talk to more Americans, because a great number of them are concerned about the dramatic overreach of our government in recent years,” a statement released by Paul’s office said at the time.
Paul was recently lambasted by the mainstream media for suggesting that his rivals want to see a terror attack occur so that he can be blamed.
