JNS.org – The US Senate passed the Never Again Education Act, which seeks to expand Holocaust education in the United States, by unanimous consent on Wednesday.

The passage followed Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) lifting a hold on the bill on Thursday, a day after it was discharged from the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. It also happens to come in Jewish American Heritage Month.

“It’s very rare for a substantive bill to move like this without going through committee,” a Hill aide told Jewish Insider. “[Lee] and his staff wanted to review the text.”

Ultimately, no changes were made to the bill, the Hill aide told the outlet.

A hold is a procedure where a senator tells his or her floor leader that he or she does not want a specific measure to reach the floor for consideration, and therefore may filibuster any motion to proceed to debate the bill or other measure.

The legislation, which now goes to US President Donald Trump for his expected signature into law, would expand the US Holocaust Memorial Museum’s (USHMM) education programming to teachers nationwide, requiring the museum to develop and disseminate resources to improve awareness and understanding of the Holocaust and its lessons.

The Senate version, which was introduced by Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and had 76 co-sponsors, was slightly different from the House one, which the Senate ultimately passed, in that former had the US Department of Education, not the USHMM, oversee the expansion of Holocaust education in the United States.

“Antisemitism is on the rise in the United States and across the globe. We must act to reverse this dangerous course,” said Rosen in a statement. “The best way to prevent an atrocity like the Holocaust from occurring again is through education. … Through education, we can provide insight into the past, and use it to prevent antisemitism now.”

“Antisemitism is a serious threat in the United States and around the world. We are obligated to fight against such bigotry, and failing to educate the next generation would only make history more likely to repeat itself,” said Cramer in a statement. “The Never Again Education Act legislation gives parents and teachers more resources and training to teach our children about the lessons of the Holocaust.”

The House version was introduced by Reps. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and passed in January on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which commemorated the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

“This critical, bipartisan legislation is a proactive measure to educate and provide states and schools with the resources necessary to incorporate Holocaust education into their classrooms, ensuring that all students understand the evils of Holocaust and its impact,” said Stefanik.

“Children are not born with hate in their hearts, it is up to us to make sure they never learn it,” said Maloney in a statement. “To do that, we must make sure our educators have the tools they need to teach about the Holocaust, an incredibly difficult subject to teach and for students to understand.”

Under the legislation, $2 million would be allocated annually for this year and each of the next four years to the Holocaust Education Assistance Program Fund, administered by the USHMM’s governing body, the US Holocaust Memorial Council. Private donations for the fund would be permitted.

The measure, passed in the Senate during Jewish American Heritage Month, would create an online Holocaust-education repository of resources for educators to teach both middle-school and high school students about the genocide that killed 11 million people, 6 million of whom were Jews.

Currently, 18 states either encourage or require teaching about the Holocaust.

‘Hard work paid off’

Jewish and pro-Israel groups celebrated the bill’s passage in the Senate.

“Senator Rosen has been building consensus on the urgency of quality Holocaust education within her caucus and across the aisle since introducing the Never Again Education Act in the Senate,” said Hadassah’s National President, Rhoda Smolow, and its CEO and Executive Director, Janice Weinman, in a statement. “Today, her hard work paid off.”

In a statement, Christians United for Israel Founder and Chairman John Hagee said “if there exists a silver bullet to defeat the spread of bigotry and hatred, it is education. Through this legislation, teachers around the country will have federal support in their efforts to stamp out antisemitism by teaching about its abhorrent consequences.”

The Republican Jewish Coalition applauded the bipartisan nature of the passed legislation.

“The men and women of the United States Senate deserve credit for setting aside their differences to clear the way for swift and unanimous passage of this much-needed legislation,” said RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks in a statement.

This feminization of the wise men fits Hillsong’s passion to conform Christ to modern culture in direct disobedience to God’s Word, and Hillsong represents the heart and soul of contemporary worship music. IRVING BERLIN’S GOD BLESS AMERICA

The following, which is a shocking reminder of how dramatically America has changed, is adapted from “Irving Berlin and ‘God Bless America!’” by Bill Federer, American Minute: In 1940, Kate Smith sang the patriotic hymn “God Bless America” before Democratic campaign rallies at the request of the Democratic National Committee. The hymn was written by popular song writer Irving Berlin, who was born in Russia in 1888, the son of a Jewish rabbi. The family immigrated to New York in 1902 to escape anti-Jewish persecution, and Irving served in the U.S. Army in World War I as an infantry sergeant. Berlin gave all the royalties of “God Bless America” to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. The original scout oath said, “On my honor I will do my best: To do my duty to God and my country...” Irving was granted the Congressional Gold Medal “in recognition of his services in composing many popular songs, including ‘God Bless America.’” The bill was signed by President Dwight Eisenhower. Upon receiving the medal in February 1955, Berlin told the president, “To me, ‘God Bless America’ was not just a song but an expression of my feeling toward the country to which I owe what I have and what I am.” The lyrics go like this: “While the storm clouds gather far across the sea, let us swear allegiance, to a land that’s free. Let us all be grateful, for a land so fair, as we raise our voices, in a solemn prayer. God Bless America, land that I love, stand beside Her, and guide Her, through the night, with the Light from Above, from the mountains, to the prairies, to the oceans white with foam, God Bless America, My Home Sweet Home, God Bless America, My Home Sweet Home!”


JIM BAKKER SUED FOR BOGUS CORONAVIRUS CURE

Jim Bakker, disgraced former host of The PTL Club, is being sued by the state of Missouri for selling a bogus coronavirus cure called Silver Solution. After spending five years in prison for defrauding his followers out of $158 million to support a lavish and immoral lifestyle (including the famous air-conditioned doghouse), Bakker launched a new career with The Jim Bakker Show. He sells survival food and equipment for preppers who, we suppose, plan to hide from the Antichrist. Bakker also has been selling Silver Solution, though it has conveniently disappeared from his web site. This is one of the many brands of colloidal silver (tiny silver particles suspended in a liquid) that are marketed as a health product. On his Feb. 12 broadcast, Bakker’s guest Sherrill Sellman, a “natural health expert,” said, “[I]t has been tested on other strains of the coronavirus and has been able to eliminate it within 12 hours. Totally eliminate it. Kills it. Deactivates it. [Silver Solution] has been proven by the government that it has the ability to kill every pathogen it has ever been tested on, including SARS and HIV” (“Missouri Sues Televangelist,” NPR.org, Mar. 11, 2020). Four 4-ounce bottles are a mere $80. On its very face, Silver Solution has all the hallmarks of snake oil quackery by claiming to be a cure for just about anything. Not only does it kill bacteria and viruses, it boosts the immune system, and is an effective treatment for cancer, arthritis, diabetes, and other things. Bringing everything back to reality and bursting the Silver Solution bubble, the Mayo Clinic says, “Colloidal silver isn’t considered safe or effective for any of the health claims manufacturers make. Silver has no known purpose in the body. Nor is it an essential mineral, as some sellers of silver products claim. It’s not clear how much colloidal silver may be harmful, but it can build up in your body’s tissues over months or years. Most commonly, this results in argyria (ahr-JIR-e-uh), a blue-gray discoloration of your skin, eyes, internal organs, nails and gums. While argyria doesn’t usually pose a serious health problem, it can be a cosmetic concern because it doesn’t go away when you stop taking silver products. Rarely, excessive doses of colloidal silver can cause possibly irreversible serious health problems, including kidney damage and neurological problems such as seizures. Colloidal silver products may also interact with medications” (mayoclinic.org). So silver won’t cure coronavirus, but it might turn your skin blue if you want to look like a Martian! Since it appears that Bakker no longer sells Silver Solution, you can always get the Keto Hydrolyzed Collagen Powder or the Fermented Green Supremefood made of fermented vegetables and grasses and enzymes. Bakker’s wife and former co-host of the PTL Club, Tammy Faye, divorced Jim while he was in prison and married Roe Messner, an old family friend whose company helped build PTL’s Heritage USA resort complex. She had a second wind evangelistic ministry, too, before she died in 2008.


WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION, A MAJOR PROMOTER OF ABORTION AND SEX EDUCATION

The following is excerpted from “World Health Organization,” The Stream, Apr. 27, 2020: “The World Health Organization, the ‘watchdog’ of the global health, is a lot more than the world’s disease and infection police. It’s also, as more Americans are starting to learn, one of the biggest promoters of abortion and peddlers of radical sex ed. At this point, it’s undeniable. And it’s been its agenda for many years. If Americans are upset about anything, it shouldn’t be that the president temporarily cut the WHO’s funding. It should be the incredible injustice that’s been done to taxpayers by sending billions of dollars to a group that doesn’t share most people’s values. Sharon Slater of Family Watch International exposes this shameful history in a recent publication on the WHO. According to Family Watch: ‘In 2018, WHO co-published with other UN agencies and the help of International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) the radical International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education. This guide purports to set the sexual health education standards for all of the world’s children. Please note that WHO defines “sexuality” to encompass “sex, gender identities and roles, sexual orientation, eroticism, pleasure, intimacy and reproduction,” and thus, WHO supports such controversial topics being taught to children. If you’re still not convinced, Slater offers additional damning evidence from the WHO-supported learning objectives for children from the International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education that encourage everything from gender and sexual experimentation to abortion, shocking acts of sexual pleasure, and departures from their parents’ more traditional views. Slater also explains that “the WHO’s CSE standards for European children, which are even worse, start by teaching toddlers about [sexual experimentation]. They also refer 9-year-olds to [the International Planned Parenthood Federation] to learn about their “sexual rights,” which is further evidence of WHO’s deep partnership with IPPF.’ ... Slater adds: ‘[WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus] also has worked toward the decriminalization of cross-dressing, same-sex behaviour, sex work and drug use.’ She points to the WHO’s Values and Preferences of Transgender People Study as further evidence, and a ‘WHO fact sheet reveals that the organization has bought into unscientific transgender ideology, stating it is important to recognize identities that do not fit into the binary male or female sex categories.’”

The E.U. announced at the beginning of May that it was sending an additional $41 million to the P.A., as part of a total package of $76 million being given to help the P.A. deal with the coronavirus outbreak. The money is to be used, however, to pay salaries of civil servants, rather than on PPE, ventilators, ICU beds, and medical personnel. This is one more example of the continuing failure of the E.U. to recognize the main source of the P.A.’s financial distress: its greedy and grasping leaders, who steal so much of the aid money for themselves. The Palestinians themselves are aware of how corrupt their leadership is, but can do little about it.

A year ago, documents were leaked online showing that in 2017, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas had quietly agreed to increase monthly salaries of his ministers by 67 percent, from $3,000 to $5,000, as well as boosting his own salary from $4,000 to $6,000 a month. According to the Associated Press, the raises were kept secret from the public and approved by Abbas. Once the raises were made public, the succeeding uproar caused Abbas to promise to rescind those secret raises. But did he? We know that Abbas rewards his loyalists with sums far beyond what they receive in salaries. Hanan Ashrawi has mysteriously become a multi-millionaire over the past two years, with a net worth of $5 million; Saeb Erekat now has about $2 million. It’s not possible, on their stated salaries, for them to have accumulated so much. But what Palestinian is going to dare to investigate?

In the P.A., the greatest crook of all is Mahmoud Abbas, who with his sons Tareq and Nasser has amassed a family fortune of more than $400 million. The E.U. should demand an accounting from the P.A. as to how its leaders have made so much money, before it lavishes still more aid on the P.A. By never raising the issue of corruption with the P.A., leaders the E.U. demoralizes those many Palestinians who, struggling to get by, are infuriated by the sums they see being received by Abbas and company. The gated community of villas in the West Bank town of Ramallah may help explain why Palestinians almost universally believe there is corruption in the government of President Mahmoud Abbas. The secluded “Diplomatic Compound,” built for senior Palestinian Authority officials on subsidized land, is one of the symbols of what many Palestinians think is wrong with their leaders — that they are cut off from the people, do not suffer along with them, and continue to award themselves large sums and special deals that are kept hidden from view.

Here is the story, at Middle East Monitor, of the latest lavishing of aid money on the P.A. by E.U. taxpayers:


As part of its global response to the coronavirus outbreak, the European Union (EU) has allocated €38 million ($41 million) to Palestine, reported the Wafa news agency.

The support will enable the Palestinian Authority (PA) to meet its commitments towards the April payments of Palestinian civil servants’ salaries and pensions in the occupied West Bank.

The EU said in a statement that it made this contribution as part of the #TeamEurope approach recently adopted by the 27 EU Member States to support partner countries and fragile populations to fight the coronavirus crisis.

In early April the EU said it would provide the PA an assistance package of around €71 million ($76 million), including the €38 million announced yesterday, while the World Bank approved a $5.8 million emergency package in light of coronavirus.

The announcement was made during a video meeting between Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh and foreign diplomats, including the head of the Office of the EU Representative to the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Sven Kuhn von Burgsdorff.

“These are difficult times as we face together the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. We have been engaged from day one with the Palestinian government to advance and readjust our support  to better serve the Palestinian people amid this crisis,” Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff said in a statement yesterday.

He explained that this contribution is a clear message of the EU’s strong commitment to the Palestinian people at this critical time.


There would be enough money to pay the P.A.’s civil servants if Abbas and his henchmen were not siphoning off so much of it. They steal from the tax revenues that Israel collects for it and then transfers to the P.A. They steal from the aid money that the P.A. receives in such abundance from so many gullible Western countries. They steal from their own government by making sweetheart deals available only to themselves as, for example, the land they are allowed to buy at greatly subsidized prices in Ramallah on which to build their villas. That land is in the secluded neighborhood – as noted previously — known as the “Diplomatic Compound,” where the P.A.’s leaders have built their luxurious villas, with well-tended flower beds and pools, carefully guarded from the prying eyes of the Palestinian hoi polloi.

Most luxurious of all those residences is the $13 million palace that Abbas has had built for himself. Why, given the constant financial distress of the P.A., did he require such a lavish dwelling? Why did he need to buy a private jet costing $50 million, for his use alone? How many plane trips does Abbas take each year that justify such a costly purchase? And why now, during the coronavirus pandemic, does he not sell that quite unnecessary jet to help pay for medical equipment for the long-suffering Palestinians, about whom he claims to care so much? Why has Abbas never been asked by the E.U. to justify these expenditures – that palace, that private jet — or to explain the sources of his $400 million fortune?

Questions, questions. Will anyone in the E.U. dare to ask them? Many Palestinians, who are afraid to ask them — those who do end up in prison — would be heartened if someone better situated, such as the member states of the E.U., did so. Or will the world’s silence about the Grand Theft by Mahmoud Abbas and his privileged henchmen continue, as they pocket so much of the wealth that comes to the P.A. from abroad, while holding their hands out, unashamedly, for more and yet still more?

Did the Hasidic Jewish community in New York bring coronavirus upon itself by refusing to cancel in-person Purim megillah readings?

That’s the narrative being pushed by The New York Times, which, in a news article, reported, “Celebrations of the Jewish holiday of Purim, which fell on March 10 this year, were canceled by many Reform, Conservative, and Modern Orthodox synagogues. But many Hasidic groups observed the festival, drawing people to gatherings where they may have been exposed to the virus.”

As is so often the case with The New York Times and Jewish matters, the newspaper has it wrong. Start with the basics: In Judaism, holidays, and days, begin at nightfall. So the Sabbath begins on Friday night and lasts into Saturday. Purim, the 14th of Adar on the Hebrew calendar, was widely observed on Monday night, March 9. There’s another reading of the Book of Esther the following morning and some people might have a festive meal afterward, but the big Purim celebrations were Monday night, March 9, not, as the Times inaccurately reports, March 10. Perhaps the paper will run a correction on this point as it has on so many other matters of Jewish ritual and law over the years, or perhaps it will display its disregard for accuracy by failing to publish a correction.

The Times article makes it sound like, by Purim, everyone except for those reckless Hasidim was already sheltering in place, locked down, or in an informal self-imposed quarantine. But that gets the timeline wrong. Broadway theaters and the Metropolitan Museum of Art didn’t shut down until Thursday, March 12 — more than 48 hours after the night of Purim. On March 10, New York Times reporters were still commuting via subway, and movie theaters in New York City were open. New York City Public Schools were open through Friday, March 13, and the mayor only announced their closure on Sunday, March 15 — nearly a week after Purim. The Museum of Modern Art in New York remained open until Thursday, March 12 and only closed starting Friday, March 13.

So why pick on the Hasidim?

The Times doesn’t have any scientific count of what percentage of Reform, Conservative, or Modern Orthodox congregations “canceled” Purim. “Many” may have canceled, but many also went ahead and observed the holiday in person. I personally attended a megillah reading on Monday night, March 9 at a non-Hasidic congregation in Massachusetts. A local news outlet published a slideshow of a 2020 Purim carnival at Temple Beth Am, a Reform synagogue in Framingham, Massachusetts. The Los Angeles Times published a news article late in the afternoon of March 9 with the following passages:


“We’re trying to manage the delta between vigilance and panic,” said Rabbi Adam Kligfeld of Temple Beth Am, a large Conservative congregation whose Purim events are especially popular among young families. “As of now, nothing is canceled. We’re encouraging people to come.” …

“With the Purim carnival [Sunday] we went back and forth whether or not to cancel it, and it was packed,” Kligfeld said. “It was overflowing.”


As for those congregations that did cancel Purim celebrations, they didn’t get much adulatory treatment at all in the moment from the Times. The newspaper was apparently holding back and reserving the extensive-photo-essay plus a column treatment for Ramadan: “Some mosques, where men and women normally pray shoulder to shoulder and crowds spill into the streets, have made efforts to space out the faithful to prevent contagion. Others, from Paris to Brooklyn to Mecca, toward which all Muslims pray, have shut their doors altogether.”

It’s gotten to the point where the double standard is widely recognized in the Jewish community. The Times coverage informs the mayor’s response, which then is repeated again by the Times. David Greenfield, a former New York City Council member, tweeted over the weekend as crowds filled New York parks to enjoy the warm weather: “Message: do whatever the heck you want if you’re not Hasidic.”

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio expressed his sympathy for the loss of a rabbi in Brooklyn, but condemned the large funeral gathering as it put more people at risk of exposure. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday a funeral for an ultra-Orthodox rabbi that drew thousands of mourners in Brooklyn “was absolutely unacceptable,” and he warned that police will start issuing summonses or arrest violators at similar gatherings. “It was a large gathering, again, tragically thousands of people. The amount of danger created by that kind of gathering is inestimable,” de Blasio said at a press conference. “People will die because of it, which goes against everyone’s values.” Jewish organizations blasted the mayor’s comments. Police didn’t issue any citations at Tuesday night’s funeral for Rabbi Chaim Mertz, but that will change, a police spokesperson said. De Blasio and NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said they are done warning people who violate social distancing guidelines. The rabbi died of Covid-19 at age 73, NBC New York reported. Shea said “probably several thousand people” gathered on one block for the funeral, which was broken up by the NYPD. “That event last night never should have happened, it better not happen again,” Shea warned. “You are putting my cops’ lives at risk and it’s unacceptable.” On Tuesday night, de Blasio sent police to Brooklyn where a massive crowd of people could be seen in the streets attending the funeral. The mayor sent a series of tweets scolding the gatherers, saying he went to the scene himself to ensure the crowd dispersed.

The Democrat mayor of New York City has issued a dire warning eerily reminiscent of that which happened during the German Nazi regime under Adolph Hitler — round up Jewish people and arrest them. Stopping only short of announcing he’d toss them in concentration camps and gas them, he did say that this is all about “stopping this disease and saving lives.”





You can’t make this stuff up. This comes on the heels of this anti-Constitutional tyrant who also threatened to shut down churches — PERMANENTLY — if they continued to hold worship services during the city’s lockdown.

De Blasio obviously has a serious problem with the Constitution of the United States and civil liberties afforded people. The very first sentence in the very first amendment is abundantly clear:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…

That de Blasio would make such a thoughtless statement and receive such little backlash speaks volumes of the direction the citizens of this country have taken. We’ve lost our will to fight — and when we’ve lost our will to fight, we lose our freedoms.

This is similar to what we see in Britain on a more or less daily basis: special treatment and special accommodations for Muslims. Britain is well on the way to establishing Muslims as a protected class with rights and privileges beyond those of ordinary citizens, and de Blasio has embarked on the same path. It seems to be a favored practice among Leftist politicians.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Thursday that the city will take steps to provide for its Muslim community amid the coronavirus by distributing “over half a million meals” during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

The 500,000 Halal meals will be distributed at 32 Department of Education buildings and other community organizations during Ramadan, Bloomberg News reported. Ramadan began Thursday evening and will end the evening of May 23.

“One of Ramadan’s most noble callings is to feed the hungry,” de Blasio said Thursday during a press briefing. “To remember to be there for those in need. And that is now harder than ever now that people can’t go to their mosques.”

“We all wish that the celebrations of Easter and Passover could have been so different,” de Blasio said during the briefing.

However, many Christian and Jewish New Yorkers may find that statement unsettling, given the mayor’s harsh warning for the faithful from those religions at the start of the COVID-19 outbreak in the city.

You may remember that de Blasio threatened to permanently close churches and synagogues that dared gather together in violation of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s shelter-in-place order….
