Psychological Parallels Between
Hitler's Bund Deutsche Madel
and the Neo-Feminist Girl Scouts:

The title of this piece appears to be outrageous. When we remember the Jewish children who were thrown alive into open ditches by the Nazis and then think about the hopeful girls outside Walmart today selling cookies, it seems an offense to decency to suggest there could be any comparison between theBund Deutsche Madel (League of German Girls, or BDM) and the Girl Scouts. It would indeed be disgusting to suggest that people associated with the Girl Scouts have ever or ever would commit atrocities against born children. Nevertheless, this essay suggests that both Nazism and post-1960s sex and gender feminism (termed neo-feminism in this essay) envision exclusionary, utopian socialist orders and both indoctrinate girls in exploitive, unnatural, harmful ways from a young age to advance their respective visions of society.
This is a theoretical examination of similarities of ethos and methodologies of proselytization of girls into a new social order. From that perspective, there are parallels between the indoctrination of girls in Germany in the 1930s and of the Girl Scouts from the 1960s onward.
The neo-feminist Girl Scouts and the BDM share the following:
1. Training girls into new identities of “leadership” and “power” to serve inhumane utopian socialist world views. The post-60s Girl Scouts often refers to itself as a “movement.” Nazism and neo-feminist Girl Scouts burden young children to become young troopers striding for their leaders’ vision of society.
2. Weakening the focus of girls on home and traditional family. Girl Scouts still hike and go camping, but the foundational ethos of the organization changed to reject the traditional moral code that emphasizes family. The progressive normalization of the single mother, the vision of sex, sexuality, and “reproductive rights” are the new normal for Girl Scouts.
3. Indoctrinating girls away from Judeo-Christian virtues and morals.
4. Promoting a neo-pagan, earth worship leitmotif. The Girl Scouts have consistently emphasized global warming as a cause, including advocating that members contact their congressmen to limit greenhouse gases.
5. Upholding “final-solution” methods against unwanted humans. The world views of the Nazis, and the directors of the Girl Scouts for the last four decades as well as their corporate sponsors, support identifying classes of human beings who are denied human value and considered appropriate to be killed. Both programs have the unspoken but clear goal of indoctrinating girls into being willing to kill humans in those classes, and to accept, rationalize, and justify these forms of taking human life.

The new Law waters down the virtues into vague, situationally specific, anti-moral formulations which necessarily involve being one’s own guide, and making self-directed choices. Hitler’s utopia was racially pure, while the neo-feminist Girl Scout utopia is a sexually empowered, female-centric, self-esteeming, gender-bending journey. Both are against human nature, and both hold the seeds of catastrophe within their premises.
In the current Law, courteous is dropped in favor of “courage and strength” for the new female-based world where men are irrelevant. The virtue “thrifty” became the progressive gobbledygook “use resources wisely.” Even worse, the matchless virtues to be “clean in thought, word and deed” became the socialist cliché, “make the world a better place.”

The BDM was founded in 1930 for girls age 10, membership becoming compulsory in 1936. It was disbanded in 1945 and later outlawed. Its goals were feminist for the time. The Nazi cause wanted to extend the role of women outside the home and family to serve the state; the leader of the BDM had to be unmarried. At one point the group was headed by a lesbian and her partner. The BDM yearbook for girls,Madel -- eure Welt has a description of Hitler’s ideal girl, which could have been written by the Girl Scout’s marketing team:
Our volk need a generation of girls which is healthy in body and mind, sure and decisive, proudly and confidently going forward, one which assumes its place in everyday life with poise and discernment, one free of sentimental and rapturous emotions… Such girls will then, by necessity, carry the values of National Socialism into the next generation as the mental bulwark of our people.
The Girl Scouts program resonates throughout with the same vision of this Nazi propaganda. The first principle of neo-feminism is that sex is not a spiritual or moral issue it is a health issue. Sex must be separated from “sentimental or rapturous emotions” so that society and not God is granted power over the female body.
2. Weakening the focus of girls on home and traditional family.
One of the most striking features throughout the Girl Scouts comprehensive program for girls age 5 to 18 is the absolute absence of the words father and mother. The training materials emphasize the progressive frets such as bullying of lesbians girls, and “relational aggression.” As always, the materials do not teach girls to turn to their families first, programs outside the home are the solution.
In 2008 the originally two-tiered Brownie/Girl Scout system that I went through was subdivided for the fifth time into Daisies (5-7), Brownies (7-9), Juniors (9-11), Cadets (11-14), Seniors (15-16), and Ambassadors (16-18). This was a shrewd marketing move for an organization which had just appointed a lesbian branding consultant as director of “girl experience.” The more complexity the more cost. But the overall Girl Scout program, beginning at age five, is starkly similar to the BDM. From kindergarten, girls take three “National Leadership Journeys”:
· It’s Your world: Change it!
· It’s Your Planet: Love it!
· It’s Your Story: Tell it!
Talking to a five-year-old about “leadership” and “discovering herself and her values” is psychologically unhealthy. Incredibly, kindergartners are exhorted to “take action to change their communities and the world.” For example, they can, take a field trip to a public garden. This Leadership Journey is invariably tourism into a girl’s socialist utopia of public gardens, never to look at grandma’s zinnias -- or worse, grandpa’s vegetables.
Skipping ahead to the political indoctrination of 12-year-olds: GIRLtopia, a major Girl Scout initiative, invites girls to consider how the world is far from perfect for girls around the world. Material for 6th graders includes “As girls take in this reality, they are invited to envision an ideal world -- a society that consistently “respects their needs, values and interests.” Not an ideal scout, an ideal world. The progressive meme that children are born perfect, have nothing to learn and only to teach runs through the program. What virtue-based skills are gained through considering how bad “the world” is somewhere? It obviates real selfless service. An ideal society is one that respects all girls’ needs, values, interests? Criminal, immoral, harmful, selfish ones? The foundation of social benefit is righteous, moral father/mother dyads raising righteous, moral children. The neo-feminist Girl Scouts downplays this truth to truth of ignoring it.
As a Brownie, I distinctly remember promising to “help other people at all times, especially those at home.” The truth that the most important people in one’s life are those at home has been obliterated from the neo-feminist Girl Scouts. The first defense against bullying and all the harms which befall girls are married parents. The three Leadership Journeys are devoid of advancing family values or experiences. In fact, family is nearly absent from the official description of the Journeys.
The Girl Scouts will harm any girl with the goal to grow up, be pure until marriage, marry a man, have children, and be a homemaker. It will devalue and discourage her ideals at every age level. Hitler’s BDM encouraged children to rebel against parents. Der Giftpilz presented the story of a German girl being ordered to visit a Jewish doctor by her mother. The girl protested on the grounds of what she had learned at BDM meetings, and while at the office, remembered the warnings in time to escape being molested by the doctor. This caused her mother to agree that the BDM had clearly been in the right. In the big picture, Girl Scouts does the same thing.
3. Indoctrinating girls away from Judeo-Christian virtues and morals.
Nazism and neo-feminism arose in Christian countries and encourage reaction against Christian virtues and morals. Hitler Youth were used to break up Church youth movements, used in anti-Church indoctrination, used to spy on religious classes and Bible studies, and interfere with Church attendance (see here). The Bible also stands against the teachings of neo-feminism and it is anathema to them. Like the Nazis, the Girls Scouts also became an anti-Biblical anti-Christian movement. In addition to the teachings about sex and gender, for example, in 1993 the Girl Scout policy officially changed to allow members to substitute any word of their choice in the Girl Scout Promise, or drop God altogether. The official explanation specifically cited use of Allah as an alternative. But there was no national outcry for Allah at the time. It was the relentless program to weaken the Biblical moral foundation and play down the Judeo-Christian word “God.”
4. Promoting a neo-pagan, earth worship leitmotif.
The cliché that modern environmentalism grew out of Nazism is facile, but there is no doubt that Nazism and “green thinking” wereinextricable. How Green Were the Nazis? examines that history and explores, among related topics, how German environmentalism may have contributed to the dehumanization of classes of people.
But the earth-worship theme in the Girl Scouts may be even more central to their “movement.” Beginning with the Daisies, Girl Scouts are urged to “develop a keen environmental awareness” through the “It's Your Planet – Love it!” Journey. These babies are taught to love dirt first because people are the problem.
Predictably, global warming and climate change figure prominently in their programs, which include a “Some Like it Hot!” activity and a Global Warming Action Plan. The Blue Bucket is first award in this Journey. It is earned when, “Girls tell one another about their feelings and the feelings of those around them.”
As part of their Forever Green project, the Girl Scouts encouraged its members to sign a global warming pledge urging their representatives to pass anti-greenhouse gas legislation. After questions were raised about its political advocacy, GSA denied any political advocacy, thenremoved the pledge from its website.
5. Promoting “final-solutions” against a class of humans who pose a threat to the new envisioned society.
We will not restate the incomparable horrors of Nazism. But the Girl Scouts also believe that it is justifiable to kill unique human beings in the service of their ideal society. Their consistent commitment to termination of pregnancy is evident in their longstanding ties to and support of Planned Parenthood. Recently, GSA Vice-President of Communications, Kelly Parisi, parsed words to explain the Girl Scout recognition of Wendy Davis as an “incredible lady.” Parisi's previous job was as an executive in the Ms. Foundation, whose first “issue” is access to abortion. That foundation was started by Gloria Steinem, infamous national leader for abortion for many years. She is lauded in official Girl Scout publications as an esteemed role model for girls (seehere and here).
Each American of honor must decide for themselves what to do when evil takes over the great institutions of American history. I suggest a reclamation of the pre-60s Scouts programs. Restore an English-only program called GSUSA-Reoriented that is based on the early Promise and Laws. Honor God, family and the USA, sell cookies, reject corporate money, and boycott all major neo-feminist corporate donors starting with Dove Soap. If there is a legal battle, welcome it. They cannot arrest 100,000 Brownies.
When they came for the Girl Scouts I did nothing, until today.
My mother was so proud of her big, green “Cradle Scouts” diploma that came in the mail when I was a baby. The Girl Scouts and I were both born on March 12. The diploma informed Mommy I had been invested into the Cradle Scouts at birth and that I was a Girl Scout for life. These words are dedicated to my mother’s memory, a Jewish woman of honor.
