Will you take a stand for Canan Kaftancioglu?

Canan Kaftancioglu, a Turkish politician and critic of Islam, has received a ten-year-long prison sentence for “blasphemy against Islam.” If the Court of Cassation upholds the verdict, Kaftancioglu will have to serve time in prison.
Canan is the executive director of the Istanbul branch of Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (CHP), the secular opposition. Islamists have suffered a crushing defeat in Istanbul, the largest city in Europe and the fourth largest city in the world, thanks to Canan's relentless efforts. Canan has multiple college degrees and a long history of human rights advocacy, including working for TIHV (Turkish Human Rights Foundation). She has written her dissertation about “Torture Victims in Forensic Medicine.” Her father was assassinated by Islamists.
Islamists are furious because they lost Istanbul, and Canan has now become their scapegoat – given her courageous and colorful rhetoric. Canan once quipped on Twitter: “men with small dicks want to build big mosques.” She posted pictures of herself eating pork (forbidden in Islam) and acknowledged the historical reality of the Armenian Genocide. She once wrote, “stop praying, Muslims: there is no room left in paradise.” She expressed support for Kurdish dissidents, accused the current Turkish government of serial murder, and wrote that “being human is a higher dignity than being Turkish.” She is a Socratic provocateur, perhaps. But her irreverent statements serve a higher purpose: to protest human rights violations. She is the proverbial canary in the coal mine.
Turkey was once an imperfect but functional democracy. Now it is an increasingly theocratic state under the totalitarian presidency of Tayyip Erdogan. Erdogan’s presidential achievements include electoral fraudpersecution of religious minoritieswar crimes in Africa, massacring Kurdish civiliansunparalleled corruptionbanning Wikipedia and Twittercentralized online censorshipstacking the courtspersecuting academicsand terrorizing journalists. Swedish lawmakers pressed charges of genocide against him. Various commentators have called him a tyranta terrorist, and a war criminal. He has been condemned by international organizations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.
Erdogan’s world view is hateful, racist, imperialistic and totalitarian. He believes that Muslims can conquer Europe via demographic jihad. He denies that men and women are equal. He wrote an anti-Semitic play in high school, with a plot borrowed from The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. He once endorsed a German faction of al-Qaeda. He is also a catastrophic failure in economic matters. He had the constitution rewritten to invest himself with unlimited executive powers. And yet he is shameless enough to market himself as a human rights advocate to The Washington Post.
[Cartoon: Turkish dissidents satirize Tayyip Erdogan, the totalitarian president of Turkey, in an iconic cartoon called “The Erdogan Zoo” (2005). Erdogan sued the cartoonists for libel and lost.]
Canan is not alone in her vigorous critiques. Turkish intelligentsia often voice colorful criticisms towards Islam as well. Past examples include Aziz Nesin, who caused a violent rampage by translating The Satanic Verses into Turkish, Muazzez Ilmiye Cig, who claimed that the Islamic headscarf was originally worn by Sumerian prostitutes, and Fazil Say, a famous pianist who quoted satirical verses comparing the Islamic paradise to a brothel.Turkish secularists marched in solidarity with the Hebdo magazine.
Canan’s critiques are also consistent with the philosophy of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the statesman who established the modern Turkish republic. Kemal was a stern critic of Islam. In an official letter, he used the word tahrifat [desecration] and safsata [charlatanism] to describe the opening verses of the Quran. In a formal address to the Turkish parliament, he criticized the idea of divine revelation. In a personal epistle, he ridiculed the Muslim concept of paradise and martyrdom. His subsequent reforms involved dissolving the clerical classpurging Turkish from Arabic and Persian vocabularyand restoring historical churches converted into mosques. He also disbanded the Caliphate, the Islamic version of the Vatican, via parliamentary decree. Terrorist organizations such as al-Qaeda and ISIS are failed attempts at resurrecting the Caliphate.
Kemal’s political legacy is upheld by Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi, which represents the second largest electorate with fifteen million voters (30%). Kemalists mustered millions to chant slogans against Islamic fundamentalism in 2007. Kemalist politicians have called for abolishing the Ministry of Religious Affairsending compulsory religious education, and outlawing the Muslim Brotherhood. CHP’s official registered agent in the United States, Yurter Ozcan, has accused CNN of spreading Islamist propaganda. Onder Sav, former vice president, once criticized Muslim pilgrims for “allowing Mohammad to steal their money.” CHP’s official policy states an orientation in favor of NATO and the European Union. The party is popular among religious and ethnic minorities.
Kaftancioglu’s comments are protected under the universal principles of free speech and liberty of conscience. There is no credible basis for a jail sentence according to binding precedent from the Court of Cassationthe European Court of Human Rightsthe International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. However, tyrants like Erdogan rarely abide by international laws.
The prison sentence handed to Kaftancioglu, if upheld, will have an enormous chilling effect on the free speech rights of all dissidents and religious minorities worldwide.

The Short Turkish Woman Who Threatens Erdogan and Islam
SEE: below in full unedited for informational, educational and research purposes:
Erdogan, Turkey's tyrant, is not our friend.
Like all Islamists, he's an enemy of the United States and of all free people. Under Erdogan, Turkey is going the way of Pakistan. It's becoming an angry Islamist fortress, exporting terrorism abroad, whining about its victimhood, while silencing free speech.
Especially speech that offends Islamists.
One such blasphemy case, that of Canan Kaftancioglu, is the topic of a recent Front Page Magazine article.
Her father was assassinated by Islamists.
She once wrote, “stop praying, Muslims: there is no room left in paradise.”
Having your father assassinated might not dispose you kindly toward Islamists. And Islamists aren't kindly disposed toward people.
Thus, Canan is facing a ten year blasphemy sentence.
Her case, like those of previous targets of blasphemy law, are important because they remind us of two things.
1. Islam is fundamentally intolerant. There can be no freedom under Islamic law.
2. The Islamization of Turkey is an assault on human rights. And the Erdogan regime, despite being backed by Obama and the EU, is a murderous abomination that we should not support in any way. There should be no room for Erdogan in the White House.

Schultz’s bill, H.R. 1705, states:
It shall be unlawful for any person who is not a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer to transfer ammunition to any other person who is not so licensed, unless a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer has first taken possession of the ammunition for the purpose of [ having the would-be buyer comply with a NICS background check requirement.]
Universal Background Checks for Ammunition Ammo Ban

republished below in full unedited for informational, educational and research purposes:
Fairfax, VA – -( Gun control laws aren’t about stopping violent criminals, they are about burdening law-abiding gun owners.
Few pieces of anti-gun legislation illustrate this fact better than H.R.1705/S.1924, which would extend anti-gun lawmakers’ cumbersome so-called “universal” background check proposal to cover the commercial and private transfers of ammunition. On September 23, 2019, this onerous plan received the support of 21 politically minded state attorneys general, who signed a letter to congressional leadership advocating for the proposal.
H.R.1705, introduced by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Shultz (D-Fla.), would treat commercial sales of ammunition in the same manner as the commercial sale of firearms. Under the legislation, any person seeking to purchase ammunition at a store would be required to undergo an FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) check before acquiring the ammunition.

Moreover, the legislation would encumber nearly all private transfers of ammunition. The bill provides,

“It shall be unlawful for any person who is not a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer to transfer ammunition to any other person who is not so licensed, unless a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer has first taken possession of the ammunition for the purpose of complying” with the NICS background check requirement.
The legislation provides a minor exemption for ammunition transfers between immediate family members. There are other narrow exemptions for transfers “at a shooting range or in a shooting gallery or other area designated for the purpose of target shooting,” “while reasonably necessary for the purposes of hunting, trapping, or fishing,” or “while in the presence of the transferor.”
It is difficult to overstate how burdensome this policy would be for gun owners. Forcing all ammunition sales through a Federal Firearms Licensee would put non-FFL ammunition sellers out of business. This would severely curtail the availability of ammunition to the average gun owner. Gun owners would no longer be able to order ammo through the mail directly to their home, as they would need to have an FFL run a background check before taking possession of the ammunition.
Every law-abiding gun owner would be forced into a potentially lengthy background check procedure each time they purchased ammunition. A shooter couldn’t pick up a box of .22lr from his friend on the way to the range. A reloader couldn’t give a friend a new rifle load for them to try out on their own property.
This inconvenience is not a trivial matter. According to the 2018 NICS Operations Report, only 70 percent of NICS checks result in an instant determination, while 10 percent result in a significant delay. Only 1.2 percent of checks result in a denial.
Many individuals experience a delay for merely sharing a personal characteristic similar to that of someone with a potentially prohibiting record in NICS. FBI notes that “A delay response from the NICS Section indicates the subject of the background check has been matched with either a state or federal potentially prohibiting record containing a similar name and/or similar descriptive features (name, sex, race, date of birth, state of residence, social security number, height, weight, or place of birth).”
It is bad enough that such delays are so prevalent when Americans purchase firearms, which are a durable good. Extending this to ammunition sales, which occur with far more frequency because ammunition is a consumable good, would compound this injustice.
Despite being the top law enforcement officials in their respective states, it does not appear as if the anti-gun attorneys general know anything about existing federal gun laws. According to their letter to congress, the proposed legislation,
would make it illegal for individuals who are already “prohibited purchasers” under federal law – including convicted felons, domestic abusers, and individuals with serious mental health conditions – from purchasing or possessing ammunition.
The attorneys general might find it interesting to learn that prohibited persons are already barred from purchasing or possessing ammunition. 18 USC 922(g) provides that it is unlawful for a prohibited person,
to ship or transport in interstate or foreign commerce, or possess in or affecting commerce, any firearm or ammunition; or to receive any firearm or ammunition which has been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce.
A prohibited person found in possession of a single round of ammunition faces up to 10 years imprisonment.
The attorneys general also appear unaware that the U.S. has already experimented with federal ammunition control. The Gun Control Act of 1968 required all ammunition dealers to be federally licensed. Moreover, the GCA required all ammunition dealers to keep a record of sales of
ammunition to any person unless the licensee notes in his records, required to be kept pursuant to section 923 of this chapter, the name, age, and place of residence of such person if the person is an individual…
The experiment was not a success.
In 1982 .22 caliber rimfire ammunition was removed from the record-keeping requirement. In 1984, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee concluded that ammunition dealer licensing “was not necessary to facilitate legitimate Federal law enforcement interests.” In 1986, the director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms supported eliminating the record keeping requirement: “The Bureau and the [Treasury] Department have recognized that current recordkeeping requirements for ammunition have no substantial law enforcement value.” As a result, the Firearms Owners Protection Act of 1986 repealed the ammunition restrictions.
Federal ammunition control is a proven failure. Of course, that’s if the goal was to prevent criminal violence.
The current legislation pushed by Wasserman Schultz and the attorneys general is aimed at harassing law-abiding gun owners to further burden the exercise of their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. If enacted, H.R.1705/S.1924 would achieve this detestable intent.

Nigeria: Muslim group executes 2 Christian aid workers, vows to kill every Christian it captures
republished below in full unedited for informational, educational and research purposes:
The jihadist group Boko Haram “has released a video in which its militants executed two Christian aid workers in Nigeria and vow to kill every believer they capture in the future.”
Christians in Nigeria continue to be savaged by jihadists from all sides. Between Boko Haram and the Fulani jihadists, a genocide is in active progress, while the generally post-Christian West has little will to defend the rights of helpless, peaceful Christians. Another report from the Christian Post notes that the media has been mum about this persecution and “conveniently glosses over the one-sided nature of the violence in the region: The Fulani and Boko Haram are the hammers and the Christians are the nails.” The president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, is also the son of a Fulani chief.
“Boko Haram militants execute two Christian aid workers, release video footage,” by Leah MarieAnn Klett, Christian Post, October 1, 2019:
Islamic extremist group Boko Haram has released a video in which its militants executed two Christian aid workers in Nigeria and vow to kill every believer they capture in the future.
According to Morning Star News, the terrorist group released the video last week on its official news agency site Amaq. In the video, Lawrence Duna Dacighir and Godfrey Ali Shikagham, both members of the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) in Plateau state, are shown kneeling while three masked, armed men stand behind them.
The two young men, who had gone to Maiduguri to help build shelters for people displaced by Islamic extremist violence, are then shot from behind. Speaking in the Hausa language, one terrorist states the group has vowed to kill every Christian they capture in revenge for Muslims killed in past religious conflicts in Nigeria.
Pastor Pofi, a cousin of the two executed Christians, told Morning Star News that the two men were captured by Boko Haram, now called the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP), as they carried out their work in a displaced persons camps.
“Lawrence and Godfrey left Abuja for Maiduguri in search of opportunities to utilize their skills for the betterment of humanity and paid with their lives,” Pofi said. “We will never get their corpses to bury. The community will have to make do with a makeshift memorial to these young lives cut short so horrifically.”
Pastor Pofi argued that if the federal government had created economic opportunities for those tempted to join extremist groups and had returned security to the country, the two Christian men would not be dead.
“We must ask ourselves if this is the kind of country we want where young men who are earning an honest living are brutally killed while those who abduct and kill others are invited to dialogue with government and paid handsomely,” he said.
In a letter to the United Nations secretary-general, Emmanuel Ogebe of the U.S.-Nigeria Law Group, a legal consulting firm with an emphasis on human rights, said the recent spate of murders amount to “ethnic cleansing.”
“More executions of humanitarian workers could yet occur,” Ogebe wrote to the U.N.
Nigeria ranks as the 12th-worst nation in the world when it comes to Christian persecution. Boko Haram is one of the most violent terrorist groups in the world, wreaking havoc in Nigeria’s northeast and Lake Chad region. Over the last decade, the group has killed an estimated 35,000 civilians and displaced thousands more.
In July, Boko Haram splinter group ISWAP — a group that has ties to Islamic State terrorists — kidnapped six Christian aid workers from the humanitarian group Action Against Hunger. The group later released a video in which the captured aid workers begged the Nigerian government for help.
Last week, militants released a video of them beheading one of the abducted men and blaming the Nigerian government for deceiving them after months of negotiations. They have also said that if nothing is done, they will execute the other five captives as well…..

The death penalty for apostasy is part of Islamic law. It’s based on the Qur’an: “They wish you would disbelieve as they disbelieved so you would be alike. So do not take from among them allies until they emigrate for the cause of Allah. But if they turn away, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them and take not from among them any ally or helper.” (Qur’an 4:89)
A hadith depicts Muhammad saying: “Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him” (Bukhari 9.84.57). The death penalty for apostasy is part of Islamic law according to all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence.
This is still the position of all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence, both Sunni and Shi’ite. Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the most renowned and prominent Muslim cleric in the world, has stated: “The Muslim jurists are unanimous that apostates must be punished, yet they differ as to determining the kind of punishment to be inflicted upon them. The majority of them, including the four main schools of jurisprudence (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi’i, and Hanbali) as well as the other four schools of jurisprudence (the four Shiite schools of Az-Zaidiyyah, Al-Ithna-‘ashriyyah, Al-Ja’fariyyah, and Az-Zaheriyyah) agree that apostates must be executed.”
Qaradawi also once famously said: “If they had gotten rid of the apostasy punishment, Islam wouldn’t exist today.”
“Christian in Uganda Loses Children, Mother and Stepfather to Islamist Attack, Sources Say,” Morning Star News, October 2, 2019:
NAIROBI, Kenya (Morning Star News) – A 36-year-old Christian near Kampala, Uganda is mourning the deaths of his son, daughter, mother and stepfather, who were killed when Muslim extremists set their house ablaze seven weeks ago, sources said.
Before the radical Muslims set Ali Nakabale’s house on fire on Aug. 20 in Nakaseke, Nakaseke District about 50 kilometers (31 miles) from Kampala, his wife and other area Muslims had become enraged that he and his mother had converted from Islam to Christianity, Nakabale said. He and his 56-year-old mother, Nankya Hamidah, had put their faith in Christ at an open-air evangelistic event in August 2018.
“I had just visited my aunt only to receive sad news of the burning of our house,” the distraught Nakabale told Morning Star News by phone. “Upon arriving home, I found the house destroyed by fire that burned my four family members, including my two children. On reaching the mortuary, I found their bodies burned beyond recognition.”
Killed along with Hamidah were Joseph Masembe, who had also left Islam to follow Christ and had married Hamidah in November 2018 after her husband’s death earlier that year; Nakabale’s 9-year-old daughter, Afsa Lawada; and his 6-year-old son, Yakubu Njabuga.
A neighbor told Morning Star News that he and others became aware of the fire at 1 a.m. on Aug. 20.
“We saw fire emanating from the house of Hamidah with loud chants from Muslims saying, ‘Allah Akbar [God is greater],’” said the neighbor on condition of anonymity. “Arriving at the scene of the incident, we found that the house had been razed down, killing the four family members.”
Nakabale said that the mosque leader of the Kyanja area of Nakaseke had written a letter to his stepfather, Masembe, stating, “It has come to our attention that since you got married to Hamidah, you have not been attending the mosque.”
“At this, then I realized that the Muslims were monitoring our movements,” Nakabale told Morning Star News….
