According to Islamic law, “retaliation is obligatory against anyone who kills a human being purely intentionally and without right.” However, “not subject to retaliation” is “a father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring.” (Reliance of the Traveller o1.1-2). In other words, someone who kills his child incurs no legal penalty under Islamic law. In this case the victim was the murderer’s daughter, a victim to the culture of violence and intimidation that such laws help create.

Muslims commit 91 percent of honor killings worldwide. The Palestinian Authority gives pardons or suspended sentences for honor murders. Iraqi women have asked for tougher sentences for Islamic honor murderers, who get off lightly now. Syria in 2009 scrapped a law limiting the length of sentences for honor killings, but “the new law says a man can still benefit from extenuating circumstances in crimes of passion or honour ‘provided he serves a prison term of no less than two years in the case of killing.’” And in 2003 the Jordanian Parliament voted down on Islamic grounds a provision designed to stiffen penalties for honor killings. Al-Jazeera reported that “Islamists and conservatives said the laws violated religious traditions and would destroy families and values.”

Until the encouragement Islamic law gives to honor killing is acknowledged and confronted, more women will suffer.

A 13-year-old Iranian girl has been beheaded in an honour killing by her father while she was sleeping, local media have claimed.

Romina Ashrafi was killed with a sickle in her family home in Hovigh, Talesh county, as a form of ‘punishment’, reports said.

She had planned to run away with an older man she had fallen in love with, Iran International TV said.

The teenage girl initially fled the family home with a 35-year-old man after her father expressed outrage at their plans to get married.

But both of their families contacted authorities, leading security forces to conduct a hunt before detaining the couple and taking Romina home.

Local media reported that although Romina told authorities she would be in danger at home and feared for her life, they handed her back as required by Islamic Republic laws.

After committing the murder, Romina’s father allegedly handed himself in to police and confessed to the crime – while still holding the bloodied murder weapon.

District governor Kazem Razmi said the girl’s father is being held in custody and an investigation into the case is underway….

Romina’s father will escape the death penalty because he was Romina’s ‘guardian’, and Islamic Penal Code means he is exempt from ‘qisas’, or ‘retaliation in kind’, Al Arabiya reported.

Sharia law says that only ‘blood owners’ – immediate family members – are allowed to demand execution for the murder of a relative.

It means most honour killings go unpunished since families tend not to demand the death sentence for another family member….

While the exact number of honour killings in Iran is not known, a Tehran police official has previously said they account for around 20 per cent of Iran’s murders.

In any case, Sheikh Hussein Byaruhanga Husain is not an “extremist.”

The death penalty for apostasy is part of Islamic law. It’s based on the Qur’an: “They wish you would disbelieve as they disbelieved so you would be alike. So do not take from among them allies until they emigrate for the cause of Allah. But if they turn away, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them and take not from among them any ally or helper.” (Qur’an 4:89)

A Sunni hadith depicts Muhammad saying: “Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him” (Bukhari 9.84.57). This is not just a Sunni idea; the death penalty for apostasy is part of Islamic law according to all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence.

This is still the position of all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence, both Sunni and Shi’ite. Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the most renowned and prominent Muslim cleric in the world, has stated: “The Muslim jurists are unanimous that apostates must be punished, yet they differ as to determining the kind of punishment to be inflicted upon them. The majority of them, including the four main schools of jurisprudence (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi’i, and Hanbali) as well as the other four schools of jurisprudence (the four Shiite schools of Az-Zaidiyyah, Al-Ithna-‘ashriyyah, Al-Ja’fariyyah, and Az-Zaheriyyah) agree that apostates must be executed.”

Qaradawi also once famously said: “If they had gotten rid of the apostasy punishment, Islam wouldn’t exist today.”



“Muslim Father in Uganda Burns Daughter for Becoming Christian,” Morning Star News, May 21, 2020:


NAIROBI, Kenya (Morning Star News) – Unable to return to her home in western Uganda due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, Rehema Kyomuhendo was in the eastern part of the country when she first heard about Christ.

In March she had accompanied her father, a sheikh (Muslim teacher) on a business trip from Mbarara District to Mbale District, 492 kilometers (305 miles) away, and began listening to Christian programing aired on an FM radio station. They were still at her aunt’s house in Nawuyo village, Mbale District, on May 4 when at 10 p.m. she called a business friend of her father’s whom she knew to be a Roman Catholic.

“She explained to me about Christ and the way of salvation, and I got convicted and accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior,” Kyomuhendo told Morning Star News by phone. “As she was sharing Christ with me, I was so overjoyed, and my father heard my joy and woke up, came from his bedroom furiously and started beating me up with blows, slaps and kicks.”

Her father, Sheikh Hussein Byaruhanga Husain of Mbarara District, shouted at his 45-year-old sister who was sleeping in another room, telling her that his daughter had converted to Christianity and that therefore he was going to kill her, Kyomuhendo said.

He quickly broke a jerrican, lit the pieces with its remaining fuel and began burning her, a source who spoke with Kyomuhendo told Morning Star News. Kyomuhendo screamed for help, and her aunt got out of bed and shielded her from her father, the source said….

Uganda’s constitution and other laws provide for religious freedom, including the right to propagate one’s faith and convert from one faith to another. Muslims make up no more than 12 percent of Uganda’s population, with high concentrations in eastern areas of the country.

Did the Muslims actually say that they wanted to learn from the Christians? Or is Monika Matthias just assuming that her feelings are reciprocated? Given the supremacist contempt that the Qur’an inculcates for Christians, whom it terms “the most vile of created beings” (Qur’an 98:6), it is unlikely in the extreme that it is reciprocated. But anyone who notes that will be dismissed as “Islamophobic.”

In any case, this is wonderful. When will the imam of the mosque invite the Christians to come to the mosque and pray Christian prayers? Anyway, while we are waiting for that invitation, here are some more lovely and inspiring Qur’an selections that the Muslims at Martha Lutheran Church might have recited:

Qur’an 98:4-6: “Nor did those who were given the Scripture become divided until after there had come to them clear evidence. And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion. Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.”

Qur’an 5:14: “And from those who say, ‘We are Christians’ We took their covenant; but they forgot a portion of that of which they were reminded. So We caused among them animosity and hatred until the Day of Resurrection. And Allah is going to inform them about what they used to do.”

Qur’an 5:17: “They have certainly disbelieved who say that Allah is Christ, the son of Mary. Say, ‘Then who could prevent Allah at all if He had intended to destroy Christ, the son of Mary, or his mother or everyone on the earth?’ And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them. He creates what He wills, and Allah is over all things competent.”

Qur’an 4:157: “And [for] their saying, ‘Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah.’ And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.”

Qur’an 4:171: “O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, ‘Three’; desist – it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.”

Qur’an 5:116: “And [beware the Day] when Allah will say, ‘O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, “Take me and my mother as deities besides Allah?”‘ He will say, ‘Exalted are You! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Indeed, it is You who is Knower of the unseen.’”

Qur’an 19:35: “It is not [befitting] for Allah to take a son; exalted is He! When He decrees an affair, He only says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.”

Qur’an 9:30-31: “The Jews say, ‘Ezra is the son of Allah’; and the Christians say, ‘The Messiah is the son of Allah.’ That is their statement from their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved [before them]. May Allah destroy them; how are they deluded? They have taken their scholars and monks as lords besides Allah, and [also] the Messiah, the son of Mary. And they were not commanded except to worship one God; there is no deity except Him. Exalted is He above whatever they associate with Him.”

Qur’an 9:29: “Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture – [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled.”



“Ramadan: German church opens doors for Muslim prayers,” BBC, May 23, 2020:


A church in Berlin has opened its doors to Muslim worshippers unable to fit into their mosque under new social distancing rules.

Germany allowed religious services to resume on 4 May but worshippers must maintain a distance of 1.5m (5ft).

As a result the Dar Assalam mosque in the city’s Neukölln district could only hold a fraction of its congregation.

But the Martha Lutheran church in Kreuzberg offered to help by hosting Friday prayers at the end of Ramadan….

“It is a great sign and it brings joy in Ramadan and joy amid this crisis,” the mosque’s imam told Reuters news agency. “This pandemic has made us a community. Crises bring people get together.”…

Even the church’s pastor took part in the service.

Three women in the delivery room with their unborn babies were among 11 mothers killed in an attack on a maternity hospital in Kabul last week, a charity has said.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has accused gunmen of intentionally targeting mothers in the assault on 12 May that also left two young boys and a midwife dead.

In total, 24 people were killed and at least 20 more wounded, including five mothers and two new-born babies.

“I went back the day after the attack and what I saw in the maternity demonstrates it was a systematic shooting of the mothers,” said Frederic Bonnot, MSF’s head of programmes in Afghanistan.

“It was methodical. Walls sprayed with bullets, blood on the floor in the rooms, vehicles burnt out and windows shot through.”

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Taliban denied involvement, though suspicion remains, while there have also been reports it was carried out by militants linked to Islamic State….

MSF said a total of 26 mothers had been at the Dasht-e-Barchi hospital when an as-yet unknown number of gunmen launched their assault at about 10am….

“What ensued was four hours of hell – that is how long the attack lasted, while patients and staff alike looked for shelter,” said Mr Bonnot….

A culture of violence, the foundational text of which commands men to beat women from whom they “fear disobedience” (Qur’an 4:34), is going to give rise to this sort of thing, just as that same foundational text’s calls for violence against unbelievers (2:191, 4:89, 9:5, 9:29, 47:4, etc.) are going to give rise to jihad violence.

A teenage girl was beheaded by her ex-boyfriend when she returned to his flat to collect her belongings after she broke up with him, it has been claimed.

Wilma Andersson, 17, disappeared on November 14 last year before police found a ‘body part’ a fortnight later which turned out to be her head.

Her ex-boyfriend Tishko Ahmed Shabaz was arrested and has now been charged with her murder in a case that has shocked Sweden because it is deemed as one of the safest countries in the world, Expressen reports.

The rest of Wilma’s body has yet to be found.

Police claim the 23-year-old decapitated Wilma before wrapping her head in foil and hiding it at his home.

Hundreds of volunteers had joined the search for Wilma after she was reported missing in Uddevalla three days after she was last seen.

Her head was found on November 28 bringing the missing person search to an end and the launch of a murder investigation.

Shabaz had already been arrested when the grim discovery was made and has been in custody ever since.

Court papers claim Wilma died on November 14, the day she went missing, and alleges her ex-boyfriend cut up her body.

Police say they found blood on the floor of his flat and ‘traces of Wilma’ on a large kitchen knife.

A unnamed police chief said: “The suspect has retained a body part for an unknown reason and got rid of the rest of the body.”

Prosecutors claim Wilma was subjected to ‘repeated violence’ during her death….

Shabaz, who is claimed to have been born in Iraq before becoming a Swedish citizen in 2014, denies all the allegations, telling investigators: “You forget that this is a girl that I have loved and that I have lived my life perfectly.”…

How the terrorists kill two birds with one stone

Because more numbers equate more power and influence, Muslims from all walks of life—including Muammar Gaddafi—have made clear that the act of procreating is a form of jihad.  Thus,  in the U.K., “Muslim hate fanatics plan to take over Britain by having more babies and forcing a population explosion,” a report revealed back in 2008: “The swollen Muslim population would be enough to conquer Britain from inside.”

A Christian Eritrean volunteer and translator who worked in migrant centers in Germany, and was often assumed to be Muslim by the migrants, confessed that “Muslim migrants often confide in her and tell her about their dislike towards Christians,” and that “a number of the Muslim migrants she has spoken to have revealed a hatred for Christians and are determined to destroy the religion.” As to how they plan on accomplishing this, “Some women told me, ‘We will multiply our numbers. We must have more children than the Christians because it’s the only way we can destroy them here.’”

There is, however, an even more sinister and largely unknown way of prosecuting this “procreation” jihad—a way of killing two birds with one stone: seize and seed non-Muslim women with Muslim babies.  Doing so depletes the infidels’ ranks of women and the non-Muslim babies they might have birthed, while simultaneously increasing both for Islam.

As the aforementioned procreation jihad account from Germany might suggest—where female Muslim migrants “revealed a hatred for Christians and are determined to destroy the religion”—Christians are especially being targeted in this manner.

In Nigeria, for instance, which is roughly half Muslim, half Christian, thousands of Christian girls have been abducted, forced into Islam, married off and transformed into incubators of future jihadis.  Put differently, the nearly three hundred Christian Chibok girls who made headlines in 2015—some of whom were brainwashed to “cut the throats of Christians—are the tip of the iceberg.  As the Hausa Christian Foundation of Nigeria, a human rights group, recently explained:

The case of abducting Christian Girls and their forceful conversion to Islam as well as forcing them into marriage has become a water shed issue in Northern Nigeria….  The moment these girls are abducted, they are subjected to all manners of evil just to take control of their minds. Once they took hold of their minds, these girls will only do everything they are asked to do. While the parents fight for the release of their daughters, these abductors continue to sexually abuse these girls, hypnotized [subliminally influenced] their food, drinks, clothes, where they sleep, perpetually evoke evil spirit upon them to the point that these girls completely lost their minds and never think of going back to their home. Usually, the moment a Christian girl is abducted they ensure that they get married to her within one or two weeks. She will be sexually abused even before the marriage to make the parents give up on her when she becomes pregnant.

In the same statement, the Hausa Christian Foundation made this very telling remark:

The incessant kidnapping of the Christian girls and the forceful conversion to Islam is another form of Jihad in the 21st Century. They have two major aims for doing that: To inflict pain on the parents of the girl and the Christian community; and to impregnate the girl to add to their claims that Islam is the fasted growing religion in the world. They are doing it on purpose.

The statement went on by sarcastically “wondering” how unclean “infidels [kidnapped Christians] can be used to advance such a holy and clean religion like Islam….  But we know what the religion is all about. Everything is welcome no matter how evil and inhumane, as long as it will help Allah, especially the killings, the attacking, kidnapping, raping and enslaving of Christians.”

The same phenomenon prevails wherever Christian minorities live alongside Muslims.  In Egypt, countless Christian girls have been abducted for the very same reason—to bring them into the fold of Islam, diminish the numbers of the infidels, and increase that of the Muslims.  The schemes often take elaborate and complex forms.  Most recently, an unknown woman posing as a Coptic nun, along with an unknown man posing as her monk assistant, were exposed by the Coptic pope as frauds that were using their religious garb to get near and win the trust of young Christian girls.

In 2017, an ex-kidnapper, who “admits he was in a network actively targeting Coptic girls for years before he left Islam,” explained the systematic and sophisticated process in Egypt:

A group of kidnappers meets in a mosque to discuss potential victims. They keep a close eye on Christians’ houses and monitor everything that’s going on. On that basis, they weave a spider’s web around [the girls]…. I remember a Coptic Christian girl from a rich, well-known family in Minya. She was kidnapped by five Muslim men. They held her in a house, stripped her and filmed her naked. In the video, one of them also undressed. They threatened to make the video public if the girl wouldn’t marry him….  The kidnappers receive large amounts of money. Police can help them in different ways, and when they do, they might also receive a part of the financial reward the kidnappers are paid by the Islamisation organisations. In some cases, police provide the kidnappers with drugs they seize. The drugs are then given to the girls to weaken their resistance as they put them under pressure. I even know of cases in which police offered help to beat up the girls to make them recite the Islamic creed.  And the value of the reward increases whenever the girl has a position. For example, when she is the daughter of a priest or comes from a well-known family….  The Salafist group I knew rented apartments in different areas of Egypt to hide kidnapped Coptic.  There, they put them under pressure and threaten them to convert to Islam. And once they reach the legal age, a specially arranged Islamic representative comes in to make the conversion official, issue a certificate and accordingly they change their ID….  If all goes to plan, the girls are also forced into marriage with a strict Muslim. Their husbands don’t love them, they just marry her to make her a Muslim. She will be hit and humiliated. And if she tries to escape, or convert back to her original religion, she will be killed.

Although such networks have been around since the 1970s, they reached their “highest levels now, in the era of President Sisi,” the former kidnapper added. 

In Pakistan—another Muslim majority nation where the kidnap, rape, and forced conversion of Christian girls is endemic—the Asian Human Rights Commission said this in a 2011 report:

The situation is worse with the police who always side with the Islamic groups and treat minority groups as lowly life forms. The dark side of the forced conversion to Islam … also involves the criminal elements who are engaged in rape and abduction and then justify their heinous crimes by forcing the victims to convert to Islam. The Muslim fundamentalists are happy to offer these criminals shelter and use the excuse that they are providing a great service to their sacred cause of increasing the population of Muslims.

Even in Indonesia—once known as the quintessential “moderate Muslim” nation—last year a report found that “a new form of persecution is on the rise—Christian girls are being targeted by Muslim men…  Influential leaders are literally training young men to target Christian girls to impregnate them.”  The report continues:

They target them to try and sort of diffuse the spread of Christianity because the family of the Christian girl is so ashamed [of the impregnation] … they’re forced into marrying that daughter into a Muslim family…. and the Muslims who are being trained to do this, they understand that. That’s why they’re doing that….  Once girls are married into the Muslim families, they’re often cut off from or abandoned by their families and they face even more difficult circumstances.  In some cases, girls are the second or third wife of their persecutor and they have few freedoms.

In the end, all these overlooked and/or abandoned Christian girls transformed into Muslim baby producing factories are part of the equally overlooked procreation or demographic jihad, which will see that one out of every three people on earth is Muslim by 2070.

Why is Ramadan, the month in which Muslims redouble their efforts to please Allah, the “traditional time for girls to be cut”? Reuters shows no curiosity about this. The answer is because female genital mutilation has justification in Islamic law, and Islamic law is considered divine law, superseding all human law.

This story repeats the usual establishment media line: “People in countries where FGM is still common attempt to link it to religion, but the practice has nothing to do with any faith and predates both Christianity and Islam. It has also been denounced by religious leaders worldwide.”

That is only partially true, at best.

Yes, “people in countries where FGM is still common attempt to link it to religion”: “It is a religious thing. Do you want to change religion?” said one Egyptian in response to a campaign to eradicate female genital mutilation. “You only listen to what the West is saying.”

However, the establishment media ignores the fact that actually FGM is mandated in Islamic law: “Circumcision is obligatory (for every male and female) (by cutting off the piece of skin on the glans of the penis of the male, but circumcision of the female is by cutting out the bazr ‘clitoris’ [this is called khufaadh ‘female circumcision’]).” — Umdat al-Salik e4.3, translated by Mark Durie, The Third Choice, p. 64

Why is it obligatory? Because Muhammad is held to have said so: “Abu al- Malih ibn Usama’s father relates that the Prophet said: ‘Circumcision is a law for men and a preservation of honour for women.’” — Ahmad Ibn Hanbal 5:75

“Narrated Umm Atiyyah al-Ansariyyah: A woman used to perform circumcision in Medina. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to her: ‘Do not cut severely as that is better for a woman and more desirable for a husband.’” — Abu Dawud 41:5251

That hadith is classified as weak, but this one is classified as sahih (reliable): “Aishah narrated: ‘When the circumcised meets the circumcised, then indeed Ghusl is required. Myself and Allah’s Messenger did that, so we performed Ghusl.’” — Jami` at-Tirmidhi 108

If Muhammad had the genitals of his favorite wife, Aisha, mutilated, that is a strong endorsement of the practice from the man who is an “excellent example” (Qur’an 33:21) for Muslims.

Why does it matter whether or not FGM is Islamic? Because the practice will never be eradicated if its root causes are not confronted. As long as those Muslims continue to believe that Allah and Muhammad want it done, for some that will override all other considerations, in Sudan and everywhere else.

Somalia’s coronavirus lockdown has led to a huge increase in female genital mutilation (FGM), with circumcisers going door to door offering to cut girls stuck at home during the pandemic, a charity said on Monday.

Plan International said the crisis was undermining efforts to eradicate the practice in Somalia, which has the world’s highest FGM rate, with about 98% of women having been cut.

“We’ve seen a massive increase in recent weeks,” said Sadia Allin, Plan International’s head of mission in Somalia….

She told the Thomson Reuters Foundation nurses across the country had also reported a surge in requests from parents wanting them to carry out FGM on their daughters while they were off school because of the lockdown.

FGM, which affects 200 million girls and women globally, involves the partial or total removal of the external genitalia. In Somalia the vaginal opening is also often sewn up – a practice called infibulation.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has warned that the pandemic could lead to an extra two million girls worldwide being cut in the next decade as the crisis stymies global efforts to end the practice.

Allin said families in Somalia were taking advantage of school closures to carry out FGM so that the girls had time to recover from the ritual, which can take weeks.

The economic downturn caused by coronavirus has also spurred cutters to tout for more business, she said.

“The cutters have been knocking on doors, including mine, asking if there are young girls they can cut. I was so shocked,” said Allin, who has two daughters aged five and nine.

She said restrictions on movement during the lockdown were making it harder to raise awareness of the dangers of FGM in communities….

The UNFPA, which estimates 290,000 girls will be cut in Somalia in 2020, said the spike was also linked to Ramadan, which is a traditional time for girls to be cut….

An Elizabeth landlord cleared by a jury last year of charges that he refused to rent an apartment to a Muslim woman must stand trial again, an appellate panel ruled on Wednesday.

The three-court panel ordered a new trial because, the judges say in their 36-page ruling, the landlord’s defense attorney improperly questioned the Muslim woman about her religious beliefs during the initial trial.

By asking her about references to “infidels” in the Quran and Islamic politics, the landlord’s lawyer elicited “highly prejudicial” testimony that had no value and impaired the woman’s credibility in front of the jury, the ruling says.

The judges also said the trial judge improperly declared a televised news interview with the landlord, William Greda, inadmissible as evidence.

“The only victim here is Mr. Greda, who was forced to undergo this malicious prosecution by New Jersey,” said Greda’s attorney, Vincent Sanzone. “The people will speak again in a retrial.”

The dispute at the center of the case dates to February 2016 and it is detailed in the appellate judges’ decision.

Fatma Farghaly alleges she visited Greda’s 17-unit apartment building in Elizabeth wearing a khimar, or head covering. Farghaly alleges Greda asked her if she is Muslim and then told her, “I don’t rent to Muslims” before asking her to leave. Farghaly captured a subsequent conversation with Greda on her phone.

Farghaly reported the incident to Elizabeth police, then to the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights. The division followed up with two undercover visits. During the first, a division employee wearing a headscarf asked to see an apartment in Greda’s building and says he told her the apartment was “not good” for her. A second division employee not wearing a headscarf visited later and says Greda did not tell her the apartment was unsuitable.

The Civil Rights Division and the state Attorney General’s Office filed a complaint in October 2016 charging Greda with violating Farghaly’s civil rights. Then-Attorney General Christopher Porrino called Greda’s conduct “blatantly bias-driven.”

During the five-day trial, Greda denied Farghaly’s description of events and testified he believed she may have planned the encounter so they could “extort from him to support ISIS.”

A jury sided with Greda, saying the plaintiffs failed to prove he discriminated against Farghaly based on her religion.

The appellate judges took issue with several moments during the trial involving Sanzone. Sanzone repeatedly violated rules of evidence by asking Farghaly about Islam and at one point “gratuitously” suggested her accountant and doctor are Muslim, the judges say.

“Defense counsel’s questioning about Farghaly’s religious beliefs and the principles in the Quran constituted a clear and direct attack on her credibility,” the ruling says. “Indeed, the questioning sought information that had no substantive, probative value to any factual issue presented in the matter.”…

LONDON/WASHINGTON: Hackers linked to Iran have targeted staff at US drugmaker Gilead Sciences Inc in recent weeks, according to publicly-available web archives reviewed by Reuters and three cybersecurity researchers, as the company races to deploy a treatment for the Covid-19 virus.

In one case, a fake email login page designed to steal passwords was sent in April to a top Gilead executive involved in legal and corporate affairs, according to an archived version on a website used to scan for malicious web addresses. Reuters was not able to determine whether the attack was successful.

Ohad Zaidenberg, lead intelligence researcher at Israeli cybersecurity firm ClearSky, who closely tracks Iranian hacking activity and has investigated the attacks, said the attempt was part of an effort by an Iranian group to compromise email accounts of staff at the company using messages that impersonated journalists.

Two other cybersecurity researchers, who were not authorised to speak publicly about their analysis, confirmed that the web domains and hosting servers used in the hacking attempts were linked to Iran.

Iran’s mission to the United Nations denied any involvement in the attacks. “The Iranian government does not engage in cyber warfare,” said spokesman Alireza Miryousefi. “Cyber activities Iran engages in are purely defensive and to protect against further attacks on Iranian infrastructure.”…

Reuters has reported in recent weeks that hackers with links to Iran and other groups have also attempted to break into the World Health Organisation, and that attackers linked to Vietnam targeted the Chinese government over its handling of the coronavirus outbreak.

Britain and the United States warned this week that state-backed hackers are attacking pharmaceutical companies and research institutions working on treatments for the new disease.

The joint statement did not name any of the attacked organisations, but two people familiar with the matter said one of the targets was Gilead, whose antiviral drug remdesivir is the only treatment so far proven to help patients infected with Covid-19.

The hacking infrastructure used in the attempt to compromise the Gilead executive’s email account has previously been used in cyberattacks by a group of suspected Iranian hackers known as “Charming Kitten”, said Priscilla Moriuchi, director of strategic threat development at US cybersecurity firm Recorded Future, who reviewed the web archives identified by Reuters….

The E.U. announced at the beginning of May that it was sending an additional $41 million to the P.A., as part of a total package of $76 million being given to help the P.A. deal with the coronavirus outbreak. The money is to be used, however, to pay salaries of civil servants, rather than on PPE, ventilators, ICU beds, and medical personnel. This is one more example of the continuing failure of the E.U. to recognize the main source of the P.A.’s financial distress: its greedy and grasping leaders, who steal so much of the aid money for themselves. The Palestinians themselves are aware of how corrupt their leadership is, but can do little about it.

A year ago, documents were leaked online showing that in 2017, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas had quietly agreed to increase monthly salaries of his ministers by 67 percent, from $3,000 to $5,000, as well as boosting his own salary from $4,000 to $6,000 a month. According to the Associated Press, the raises were kept secret from the public and approved by Abbas. Once the raises were made public, the succeeding uproar caused Abbas to promise to rescind those secret raises. But did he? We know that Abbas rewards his loyalists with sums far beyond what they receive in salaries. Hanan Ashrawi has mysteriously become a multi-millionaire over the past two years, with a net worth of $5 million; Saeb Erekat now has about $2 million. It’s not possible, on their stated salaries, for them to have accumulated so much. But what Palestinian is going to dare to investigate?

In the P.A., the greatest crook of all is Mahmoud Abbas, who with his sons Tareq and Nasser has amassed a family fortune of more than $400 million. The E.U. should demand an accounting from the P.A. as to how its leaders have made so much money, before it lavishes still more aid on the P.A. By never raising the issue of corruption with the P.A., leaders the E.U. demoralizes those many Palestinians who, struggling to get by, are infuriated by the sums they see being received by Abbas and company. The gated community of villas in the West Bank town of Ramallah may help explain why Palestinians almost universally believe there is corruption in the government of President Mahmoud Abbas. The secluded “Diplomatic Compound,” built for senior Palestinian Authority officials on subsidized land, is one of the symbols of what many Palestinians think is wrong with their leaders — that they are cut off from the people, do not suffer along with them, and continue to award themselves large sums and special deals that are kept hidden from view.

Here is the story, at Middle East Monitor, of the latest lavishing of aid money on the P.A. by E.U. taxpayers:


As part of its global response to the coronavirus outbreak, the European Union (EU) has allocated €38 million ($41 million) to Palestine, reported the Wafa news agency.

The support will enable the Palestinian Authority (PA) to meet its commitments towards the April payments of Palestinian civil servants’ salaries and pensions in the occupied West Bank.

The EU said in a statement that it made this contribution as part of the #TeamEurope approach recently adopted by the 27 EU Member States to support partner countries and fragile populations to fight the coronavirus crisis.

In early April the EU said it would provide the PA an assistance package of around €71 million ($76 million), including the €38 million announced yesterday, while the World Bank approved a $5.8 million emergency package in light of coronavirus.

The announcement was made during a video meeting between Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh and foreign diplomats, including the head of the Office of the EU Representative to the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Sven Kuhn von Burgsdorff.

“These are difficult times as we face together the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. We have been engaged from day one with the Palestinian government to advance and readjust our support  to better serve the Palestinian people amid this crisis,” Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff said in a statement yesterday.

He explained that this contribution is a clear message of the EU’s strong commitment to the Palestinian people at this critical time.


There would be enough money to pay the P.A.’s civil servants if Abbas and his henchmen were not siphoning off so much of it. They steal from the tax revenues that Israel collects for it and then transfers to the P.A. They steal from the aid money that the P.A. receives in such abundance from so many gullible Western countries. They steal from their own government by making sweetheart deals available only to themselves as, for example, the land they are allowed to buy at greatly subsidized prices in Ramallah on which to build their villas. That land is in the secluded neighborhood – as noted previously — known as the “Diplomatic Compound,” where the P.A.’s leaders have built their luxurious villas, with well-tended flower beds and pools, carefully guarded from the prying eyes of the Palestinian hoi polloi.

Most luxurious of all those residences is the $13 million palace that Abbas has had built for himself. Why, given the constant financial distress of the P.A., did he require such a lavish dwelling? Why did he need to buy a private jet costing $50 million, for his use alone? How many plane trips does Abbas take each year that justify such a costly purchase? And why now, during the coronavirus pandemic, does he not sell that quite unnecessary jet to help pay for medical equipment for the long-suffering Palestinians, about whom he claims to care so much? Why has Abbas never been asked by the E.U. to justify these expenditures – that palace, that private jet — or to explain the sources of his $400 million fortune?

Questions, questions. Will anyone in the E.U. dare to ask them? Many Palestinians, who are afraid to ask them — those who do end up in prison — would be heartened if someone better situated, such as the member states of the E.U., did so. Or will the world’s silence about the Grand Theft by Mahmoud Abbas and his privileged henchmen continue, as they pocket so much of the wealth that comes to the P.A. from abroad, while holding their hands out, unashamedly, for more and yet still more?

A Staten Island man convicted of lying to the feds about his plans to engage in violent jihad abroad wants to get out of his Pennsylvania prison to avoid coronavirus - but prosecutors say he's not worthy of early release. Abdel Hameed Shehadeh, 30, wrote to a Brooklyn federal judge in late April that he was a changed man who feared he might die from the disease. "I was a naive, gullible 18-year-old at the time of my indicted actions," he wrote in a handwritten application. "Arrested at 20 years young, I am now 30 years old - 45 weeks away from potential release and COVID-19 is proving to be a dangerous and potentially fatal obstacle." But federal prosecutors noted Friday that only six inmates at the Lewis Run, Pa., jail had tested positive for COVID-19, and that none of those cases were currently "active." They also argued that Shehaded's pulmonary embolism did not put him at higher risk if he were to contract the virus.

[EDNY] Abdel Hameed Shehadeh, a former Staten Island resident living in Hawaii, has been charged with lying about a failed attempt to join the Taliban in Pakistan. Several weeks after Shehadeh's botched attempt to join the Taliban in Pakistan, he tried to enlist in the U.S. Army at a recruitment station in Times Square. Shehadeh's application was denied when it was discovered that he had concealed his trip to Pakistan. In March 2013, Shehadeh was convicted of making false statements in a matter involving international terrorism. In April 2020, Shehadeh wrote to a Brooklyn federal judge that he was a changed man who feared he might die from a COVID-19 infection. But federal prosecutors in a memorandum filed on May 8, 2020, noted that only six inmates at the Lewis Run, Pa., jail had tested positive for COVID-19, and that none of those cases were currently "active." They also argued that Shehaded's pulmonary embolism did not put him at higher risk if he were to contract the virus.

A federal judge refused Thursday to release an Ypsilanti man arrested by the FBI's counter-terrorism team who argued he was at high risk of getting COVID-19. U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts rejected the request from Yousef Ramadan, 31, after a hearing Wednesday that included evidence Ramadan lied about health issues that would leave him susceptible to contracting the virus. Ramadan was removed from a Royal Jordanian Airlines flight in August 2017 at Detroit Metropolitan Airport after investigators searched his checked baggage and found body armor, ammunition pouches, rifle scopes, knives and other paramilitary equipment.

I Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS)

Yousef Ramadan from Ypsilanti, MI, faced firearms charges following his removal from a Royal Jordanian Airlines flight in August 2017 at Detroit Metropolitan Airport after investigators found body armor, ammunition pouches, rifle scopes, knives and other paramilitary equipment in his checked baggage. Ramadan, his wife and four children were flying on one-way tickets to Jordan. Investigators searched the electronic storage devices and found videos of Ramadan shooting pistols and rifles, including a sniper rifle. They also found photos and videos of pipe bombs and propaganda videos and photos related to the Islamic State, including videos of fighters wearing black masks similar to those found in Ramadan's luggage, according to court records. On May 7, 2020, a federal judge refused to release Ramadan who argued he was at high risk of getting COVID-19. U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts rejected the request from Ramadan after a hearing that included evidence Ramadan lied about health issues that would leave him susceptible to contracting the virus.
