President Obama's Statement on

Keeping the Internet Open and Free;

Obama's “Net Neutrality” Rules: Threat to Free Speech:

EXCERPT:
President Obama's November 10 announcement that he would seek the “strongest possible rules” through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to enforce "net neutrality" is a strong threat to both the freedoms of speech and press, and will throttle the progress of the Internet.
Just as he did to achieve passage of ObamaCare, President Obama is once again banking on the ignorance of the voters to win adoption of his “net neutrality” rules.

Keeping the Internet "Free and Open" by
Letting the FCC Take Control (For Your Benefit, HA HA):

OBAMA WANTS TO NOW FULLY REGULATE THE INTERNET AS A PUBLIC UTILITY:

EXCERPT:
Obama is now using his EXECUTIVE POWERS to seize control of the internet. This isnot a democratic action voted on by the people or even their pretend representatives. No bill was drafted and introduced in the House or Senate. This is Obama using dictatorial powers that are undemocratic by their nature. This is simply a presidential decree and the majority of people are too socialist to even understand what is taking place here. They just believe whatever government does is for our good.

EXCERPT FROM:
NO MENTION HERE OF JESUS CHRIST! WHY?
“I’m overwhelmed by the opportunity to serve as BJU’s president,” said Pettit. “For decades, I’ve
appreciated the ministry of BJU and the Jones family to me and my family. I truly desire to honor
BJU’s heritage and continue—by God’s grace—to fulfill its mission. I particularly want to emphasize
the primacy of the local church, encourage relational discipleship among our students, faculty and
staff, and continue the emphasis on academic excellence and living a godly life.”

ADAPTING MUSIC FROM PROBLEMATIC SOURCES
AND CALLING IT CHRISTIAN:
THE PETTIT TEAM HAS NO PROBLEM USING MUSIC FROM CONTEMPORARY "CHRISTIAN" MUSICIANS WHO ARE ECUMENICAL, CHARISMATIC, AND HAVE CATHOLIC CONTEMPLATIVE ASSOCIATIONS SUCH AS KEITH & KRISTYN GETTY, AND STUART TOWNEND. THEY ALSO USE MUSIC FROM SOVEREIGN GRACE MINISTRIES, A "REFORMED" CONTINUATIONIST DENOMINATION.

I thank the Lord for Dr. Jasmin’s spiritual discernment and his willingness to speak out for the truth’s sake. It appears to me that the vast majority of Bible-believing preachers today are perfectly content to watch the battle from the sidelines.

If this were our report, we go further in warning about Bob Jones University, including the error of fundamentalist interdenominationalism. (See the free eBook

AN ANALYSIS OF A “TOWN HALL” INTERVIEW MEETING WITH DR. STEPHEN PETTIT, THE NEW BJU PRESIDENT
By Don Jasmin
djfbmhosea46@charter.net

On July 7, 2014, Dr. Steve Pettit, the new President of Bob Jones University was interviewed live in a town-hall format by Marshall Franklin, a BJU “Executive Vice-President,” concerning his goals and plans for BJU, an interview which the F. D. editor watched and took extensive notes. The following article is a personal analysis of this interview.

THE POSITIVES
1. CONVERSATIONAL TONE: Dr. Pettit maintains an excellent “conversational” speech tone rapport with his audiences. He possesses the personal demeanor of a congenial likable gentleman, who also has a unique sense of humor in his public remarks.

2. GENUINE SPIRITUAL BURDEN FOR STUDENTS: The new BJU President obviously has a genuine burden for the spiritual life of BJU students. He desires to “make the chapel program the highlight of the day” for students, a noble goal. [During his seven years as a BJU student, the daily chapel program was truly the “highlight” of the now F.D. editor’s day! Yours truly could hardly wait to get to his seat for those daily chapel sessions!]
3. EMPHASIZES PREACHING: Dr. Pettit states that there is “no virtue in bad preaching.” He desires the best quality in the BJU pulpit and sincerely believes that students “need the old Bob Jones Sr. type sermons,” perhaps as much as any trait in the daily chapel sessions.

4. DESIRE FOR REVIVAL: The BJU evangelist-president believes there is a great need to pray for revival.

THE NEGATIVES
1. ATHLETICS

The “BJU Bruins” athletic sign/symbol dominated the background for the town-hall program, located directly in the center of the backdrop. When questioned about inter-collegiate athletics, Dr. Pettit stated that it was “not a problem,” that it was a “wonderful thing” and that he was “for it.” He was glad that inter-collegiate sports has been “added” to the BJU program. It should and will received a lot of attention.

[Fundamentalist Journal Ed: For 85 years, BJU successfully operated an “intramural” [in house] sports program only. Inter-collegiate sports has proven to be the
spiritual death for every Christian college that has ever utilized it!!]

2. ACADEMICS-ACCREDITATION

Dr. Pettit approves it. He noted that BJU has been accredited for 10 years by TRACS, a religious national accrediting association. He also stated that BJU is preparing to submit an application to the regional secular SACS, for which two years’ work will go into the process.

Fundamentalist Journal Ed: Several decades ago, Dr. Bob Jones III wrote a booklet entitled
Taking the Higher Ground: The Accreditation Issues from the Bible Point of View. In that booklet he unapologetically declared: “The compromises implicit in an unholy accreditation alliance may not appear at first, but it is evident that no man can serve two masters (p.4)….Regional accreditation is a sellout to the gods of the secular educational world (p.6).” Question: Who has changed? BJU or the Bible? It’s not the Scripture!

3. BIBLE TEXT ISSUE

Dr. Pettit stated that he “understands” the Bible text “issue carefully,” since he has studied it for 35 years. Both BJU and he take the same stand “as what I was taught” at BJU. Dr. Pettit says he “holds [the] right position” on the Bible. According to Dr. Pettit, the “use or non-use of the KJV should be a
non-issue” to Bible-believers.

Fundamentalist Journal Ed: BJU adheres to the apostate critical text composed by Bible-denying liberals! The KJV is not a “non- issue” for discerning obedient perceptive Bible-believing Christians, it is a
vital issue that correctly places professing Christians into two contrasting theological camps: The traditional Received Text—the text received by Bible churches down through the centuries, based upon 98.5 % of extant manuscripts, versus the Critical Text, the text concocted and promoted by apostate liberals based upon 1.5% of the manuscripts.

An Important Omission

In his answers, Dr. Pettit stated that at BJU there are three Bible texts that are sold and used: the KJV-NKJV and NASV. However, Dr. Pettit made an important omission: He failed to state that BJU sells the English Standard Version [ESV], 91.5% of which is word-for-word nothing less than the old liberal Revised Standard Version [RSV]. He also failed to mention that as of 2013, there were 20 shelve rows of ESV for sale at the campus book store [F.D. editor’s count], a number that is “inching” close to the number of KJV shelve rows!

Dr. Pettit somewhat reluctantly noted that BJU has about 2850 students enrolled in the undergraduate and graduate divisions for 2014. This writer believes that this decreasing enrollment can be partly attributed to the fact that BJU has lost much of its former KJV Biblicist Fundamentalist constituency due to its defective Bible text stance.

4. THE MUSIC ISSUE

When queried about BJU’s stance on the vital music issue, Dr. Pettit simply claimed that BJU took a “centrist” stance on music, a middle “balanced” stand, on which he
never elucidated or made any qualifying remarks.

Another Notable Omission

When given the opportunity to delineate BJU’s position on the essential music issue, Dr. Pettit simply claimed a “centrist” policy for BJU, never once clarifying what the term “centrist” might mean from a musical viewpoint. Here was a golden opportunity for the BJU president to state the university’s bold clear outspoken opposition to Contemporary Christian Music [CCM-religious rock!] and Dr. Pettit totally forfeited this choice to make a plain statement. CCM music is the music that is rapidly destroying the inner character of Bible-believing churches, yet the new BJU president did
not make any statement of any kind about CCM’s destructive traits.

Dr. Pettit’s silence here actually speaks volumes, since one of his closest friends, Dr. Fred Coleman., the “Department Head” [Dean] of BJU’s music division, recently produced a hymnbook that contains 30 hymns by Charismatic heretics whose associations include ecumenical R.C. and New-Age connections! Sadly, that hymnal was
published by Dr. Pettit’s own publishing company, Heart Publications!

5. CHANGES IN DRESS CODE

When asked about BJU’s changes in dress codes, Dr. Pettit readily admitted that BJU had made some changes, but claimed that those “changes in dress code” are “just like [the] changes in your local church,” and that BJU was “doing pretty good” in that regard.

This writer readily admits that most local churches have made changes—gradual changes—over several decades in clothing apparel codes, but that these changes for the most part are
for the worsenot the better! Apparel standards have dropped, and these lowering

As he visits the BJU campus each year, this writer can readily note the gradually lowering apparel standards there.

6. BJU’S RELATIONSHIP TO GREENVILLE, S.C. LOCAL CHURCHES

Dr. Pettit rightly stated the importance of students knowing the importance of local churches to student’s lives, declaring that of the three most important influences on BJU student lives: (a) Bible classes (b) other classes and (c) local churches; that local churches played the most influential part in the students’ lives.

He said he strongly supports the former BJU President’s choice to permit dorm students to attend local churches on Sunday morning. He said that he recently met with 52 pastors from Greenville, SC area churches and that it was his desire to work with “like minded” churches, However, he never defined what he meant by that term.

The BJU President said that 17% of S.C. students at BJU come from just 10 Greenville, SC area churches, a fact in which he seemed greatly delighted. QUESTION: Are these 10 churches the same pro-BJU churches that have adopted the ESV and are now also utilizing pro-CCM/CCM music in their services and special music? [While he doesn’t possess exact statistics, there are about 10 Greenville area pro BJU churches that have done just that!]

A Conflicting Dilemma?

When Dr. Pettit was questioned about changes at Northland International University [NIU]. Dr. Pettit indicated that he had worked for nearly 30 years for the Northland Camp & Conference Center, 20 years as the evangelist and 9 years as the full-time camp director. He then declared that he would “not [say] one negative thing about a place I love,” but then said he was “uncomfortable with changes” taking place there. Ed: You can’t have it both ways!

7. NO STATEMENTS OF ANY KIND ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF EVANGELISM, THE GREAT COMMISSION AND THE DEFENSE OF THE FAITH.

Since BJU was built by Dr. Bob Jones Sr. on an intensely evangelistic soul-winning foundation and the corresponding militant defense of the faith, this writer was surprised that
not even one time were either of these two dual Biblical emphases mentioned, suggested or even inferred by Dr. Pettit. Staunch BJU advocates might claim this was due to lack of time during the one-hour session, but this writer does not concur with that argument.

CONCLUSION

Old-line BJU grads who had hoped for a return to the Bob Jones Sr. type ministry at BJU will be gravely disappointed. In this writer’s view, Dr. Pettit is going to continue to pursue the same policies and practices that have been taking BJU down the wrong road for several decades. If you are looking for a Fundamentalist school to endorse and support, this writer suggests that you find a Baptist Bible institute or Baptist College that is owned and operated under a Baptist, N. T. local church auspices.

ADDENDUM

A local Greenville, SC newspaper contained a large picture and accompanying article of a high school senior, along with his family, with the article title that the young man “signs with BJU Bruins” to play “intercollegiate” basketball there while he majors in “Sports Management” at BJU.

Fundamentalist Journal Ed: The public newspaper pictures from BJU all feature intercollegiate athletics. Where are the newspaper pictures for young men who sign up as “preacher boys” at BJU?

CHESTER COUNTY PA 3 YEAR OLD CHILD BEATEN, HUNG BY FEET, KILLED AFTER MASSIVE ABUSE

3-Year Old Scott McMillan Punched, Kicked,

Slammed, Hung Upside Down in Massive Abuse:

Published on Nov 8, 2014
Little Scott McMillan was beaten with a curtain rod and an aluminum strip, police said. ER nurses wept when they saw his battered body, prosecutor says. The 3-yr old was found bleeding from his ears and nose.
The couple has been charged with murder in an "American horror story" that featured the child being hung upside down and beaten with an aluminum strip, according to the prosecutor.
The little boy's battered body was covered in bruises, puncture wounds and cuts. His brain had bled.
Scott had been hung by his feet and taped to a chair while he was bludgeoned with a curtain rod and an aluminun strip, authorities said. He was also lashed with a homemade whip and beaten with fists. His 6-year-old brother, Ryan, was also abused, but survived. He is hospitalized in Delaware, the paper said.

Amber Fellenbaum also has an 11-month-daughter. The girl was not harmed and is in the custody of social services
Scott's mother told police in a statement that she and Gary Fellenbaum beat both of her boys as they hung upside down. On Sunday, they began targeting the youngest boy, punching him and throwing him against a wall. When he refused to eat breakfast on Monday, Fellenbaum became seething mad and repeatedly threw the 3-year old against the wall. Then they put him in the shower to revive him and put him to bed, the mother said in the statement, according to police.

On Tuesday, they taped his arms and legs to a chair and pummeled him until he went limp. They told his brother to hit the toddler, too.

Then the boy was put to bed and the couple went out to shop for a car, stopped and had lunch, then came home and took a nap, the paper reported. Later, the boy was found not breathing, and bleeding from his nose and ears.

Police say a man and his girlfriend are charged with murdering the girlfriend's 3-year-old son in what a prosecutor described as an "unspeakable act of depravity.".

Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan announced the arrests of Gary Fellenbaum and Jillian Tait Thursday morning. He says Fellenbaum, his wife, and girlfriend, Tait, all lived together in a mobile home in West Caln Township and worked at a local Walmart.

On Tuesday authorities were called to their residence for the report of an unresponsive child. Responding EMTs found 3-year-old Scott McMillan suffering from bruises, lacerations and puncture wounds all over his body.

Police say Fellenbaum, Tait, and Fellenbaum's wife, Amber, confessed that the little boy had been beaten with blunt and sharp objects, whipped, taped to a chair with electrical tape and beaten, hung up by his feet and beaten, leading to his death.

Authorities say they beat Scott to death using homemade weapons, like a whip, a curtain rod, a frying pan, and an aluminum strip.

Police say Tait explained that the fatal beating began when the boy wouldn't eat his breakfast.

Hogan said, "Little Scotty McMillan is dead. Over a three day period ... he was systematically tortured and beaten to death. He was punched in the face and in the stomach. He was scourged with a homemade whip. He was lashed with a metal rod. He was tied to a chair and beaten. He was tied upside down by his feet and beaten. His head was smashed through a wall."

Hogan said professionals with deep experience in these types of cases were brought to tears.

"Our ER nurses see a lot of terrible things. But when they saw his body, they wept," Hogan said.

The district attorney says Gary Fellanbaum and Tait went car shopping, bought pizza, took a nap and engaged in sexual activity - all while the child lay dying after weeks of relentless torture.

Tait allegedly told police that Fellenbaum beat her 6 and 3-year-old boys on a number of occasions. He would allegedly hit them with a closed fist in the head, face, chest and buttocks, and on one occasion she says he strung the boys up by their feet and beat them, while she and Fellenbaum laughed

"While that is the process that the Constitution establishes for the implementation of treaties, fundamental principles of construction and constitutional law dictate that no treaty that violates the Constitution can become the supreme law of the land. In the case of the UN’s Arms Trade Treaty, there is no doubt that regardless of presidential signatures or congressional consent, this treaty cannot pass constitutional muster and therefore will never be the valid law of the land.
Unless, of course, Americans once again acquiesce to President Obama’s assumption of illegal authority and relinquish their rights and weapons regardless of the reasons they should not do so."
• Article 2 of the treaty defines the scope of the treaty’s prohibitions. The right to own, buy, sell, trade, or transfer all means of armed resistance, including handguns, is denied to civilians by this section of the Arms Trade Treaty.

Today, the President is signing a new Executive Order directing the government to lead by example in securing transactions and sensitive data.
While there is no silver bullet to guarantee data security, the President is signing an Executive Order to implement enhanced security measures, including securing credit, debit, and other payment cards with microchips in lieu of basic magnetic strips, and PINs, such as those standard on consumer ATM cards. He is calling on all stakeholders to join the Administration and a number of major corporations in driving the economy toward more secure standards to safeguard consumer finances and reduce their chances of becoming victims of identity theft — America’s fastest-growing crime.

"Safeguarding Consumers’ Financial Security"
Today, the President is signing a new Executive Order directing the government to lead by example in securing transactions and sensitive data.  The new BuySecure Initiative will provide consumers with more tools to secure their financial future by assisting victims of identity theft, improving the Government’s payment security as a customer and a provider, and accelerating the transition to stronger security technologies and the development of next-generation payment security tools.

During remarks at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the President will highlight steps by his Administration and the private sector to improve security.  With over 100 million Americans falling victim to data breaches over the last year, and millions suffering from credit card fraud and identity crimes, there is a need to act — and to move our economy toward stronger, more secure technologies that better secure transactions and safeguard sensitive data.
Finally today, the President will announce the White House Summit on Cybersecurity and Consumer Protection later this year to promote partnership and innovation.  The Summit will bring together major stakeholders on consumer financial protection issues to discuss how all members of our financial system can work together to further protect American consumers and their financial data, now and in the future.
The President will also renew his call to Congress to enact overdue cybersecurity legislation that will help protect Americans — particularly by clarifying companies’ obligations when sensitive data is breached.
KEY ACTIONS ANNOUNCED TODAY
  • Moving to more secure payment systems:
As part of the President’s BuySecure Initiative, he is issuing a new Executive Order that — combined with new efforts from the private sector — will help the drive the market towards more secure payment systems.
    • Making Federal payments more secure to help drive the market forward: The President’s Executive Order (EO) lays out a new policy to secure payments to and from the Federal government by applying chip and PIN technology to newly issued and existing government credit cards, as well as debit cards like Direct Express, and upgrading retail payment card terminals at Federal agency facilities to accept chip and PIN-enabled cards.
    • Companies join national effort to improve transaction security: Home Depot, Target, Walgreens, and Walmart will be rolling out secure chip and PIN-compatible card terminals in all their stores — most by January 2015. Also in January, American Express will start a new program to support small businesses upgrading their point of sale terminals to more secure standards.  Finally, Visa will launch a new program to educate consumers and merchants on chip and other secure technologies, sending experts to 20 cities in a national public service campaign.
  • Preventing identity theft:
The President is also announcing new steps by the government to assist victims of identity theft, and commending actions by the private sector to help Americans stay on top of their financial health and security, through:
    • Victim resources:  The President’s EO will support the Federal Trade Commission in their development of a new one-stop resource for victims, at IdentityTheft.gov, to streamline the reporting and remediation process with credit bureaus.
    • Information sharing: The President’s EO further directs expanded information sharing, ensuring Federal investigators’ ability to regularly report evidence of stolen financial and other information to companies whose customers are directly affected.
    • Company assistance: MasterCard will also be providing its customers with free identity theft monitoring and resolution support.
  • Supporting credit score transparency:
Helping consumers catch one of the best early indicators of identity theft, Citi, in partnership with FICO, will begin making credit scores available for free to its consumer card customers updated monthly online — joining the over 70 million Americans who already have access to this feature at other nationwide banks and card issuers.
  • The White House Announces the Cybersecurity and Consumer Protection Summit:
Later this year, the White House will host, in collaboration with the President’s Cabinet, a summit bringing together key stakeholders in the consumer financial space to share best practices, promote adherence to stronger security standards, and discuss next generation technologies.
Leading by Example: Securing Payments Across the Economy
Federal Efforts to Transition to More Secure Payment Systems: Today, the Federal Government is making an enterprise-wide transition to more secure credit, debit, and other payment cards, as well as the retail payment terminals at government locations like the passport office, VA canteens, and national parks.  These new systems will, at a minimum, meet the global security standard of more secure microchips to store card numbers instead of unencrypted magnetic strips, and secure PIN functionality, like the kind featured on most ATM cards.  The goal is not just to ensure the security of doing retail business with the government, but also, through this increased demand, to help drive the market towards swifter adoption of stronger security standards.  Institutions like the United States Postal Service have already made this transition across tens of thousands of retail facilities across the country.
  • Making Chip and PIN Cards the Standard for the Federal Government: These “chip and PIN” cards, which have cut down on payment fraud considerably in other countries, will become the standard for Federal Government programs like SmartPay® and Direct Express®. We are working with these programs to ensure that we begin a replacement program on January 1, 2015, and will, within the calendar year, issue over one million new, more secure government payment cards.
  • Updating to Chip and PIN Card Terminals in Federal Agencies Processing Consumer Sales: Every Federal agency processing consumer sales will actively replace any prior-generation card retail payment card terminals to those with new chip and PIN security features under a plan issued by Department of the Treasury, which establishes requirements that federal agencies must follow when receiving credit and debit card payments when using Treasury’s collection system.
Building Public-Private Awareness About More Secure Authentication: In the next eighteen months, government agencies will ensure personal data digitally released by the government to citizens goes through multiple tests for authentication so that every citizen’s personal information is protected by the most secure methods possible, consistent with a plan the National Security Council Staff, Office of Science and Technology Policy, and Office of Management and Budget will present to the President.
Helping Americans Secure Their Good Name: Improving Resources to Identify and Remediate Identity Theft: Today, the President is also announcing new steps by the government to assist victims of identity theft, and commending actions by the private sector to help Americans stay on top of their financial health and security, through:
  • Credit Score Transparency.  Under the leadership of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a number of leaders in the financial services industry will be making credit scores more readily available to all Americans — improving consumers’ awareness of credit health, and helping them identify major shifts in their credit score, a key first sign of identity theft.
    • Beginning in January Citi, in partnership with FICO, will be making free credit scores available online to consumers with Citi branded credit cards —this score will be updated monthly and is the same score Citi Cards uses in lending decisions.
    • This announcement builds on work done by institutions like Discover, Barclaycard, Pentagon Federal Credit Union, and First National Bank of Omaha who, since implementing similar systems, have provided over 70 million Americans with access to their scores to track their credit health.
  • Improving Identity Theft Resources.  The Department of Justice, Department of Commerce, and Social Security Administration are also working to make the fraud reporting process as easy as possible for Americans who have experienced credit card fraud.  Their goal is to, within two years, reduce by half the amount of time it takes consumers to remediate the average case of identity theft.  To do that, they will:
    • Streamline all necessary sources of information so that visitors to IdentityTheft.gov will be equipped with the resources they need to combat fraud, all in one place, and can more quickly resolve and remediate incidents of identity theft.
    • Build upon the IdentityTheft.gov platform, in partnership with credit bureaus, to develop a more user-friendly and accessible portal that helps digitally submit reports of fraud to multiple credit bureaus.
  • Company Assistance.  Before year’s end, MasterCard will offer all its credit, debit, prepaid and small business card holders free, 24/7 identity theft resolution support and online identity monitoring services.
Enhanced Information Sharing:  Finally, to enhance companies’ and consumers’ ability to respond quickly to incidents of fraud, as they occur, the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation will improve and coordinate efforts to regularly submit information about compromised accounts and other information to the National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance’s Internet Fraud Alert System.
Private Sector Action to Transition to More Secure Payment Technologies: The President has also called on industry to ensure that consumers know the security of their information is being taken seriously, and to empower citizens with more tools to help safeguard the data that matters most.  Some of the nation’s largest retailers, card issuers, payment networks, and banks are coming together to secure their own systems, and offer more secure options for their customers.  That’s why today, the President is commending private sector steps taken in that direction, including:
  • American Express: In January 2015, American Express will launch a $10 million program to assist small business customers in upgrading their point of sale terminals.
  • Home Depot: In addition to transitioning 85,000 point of sale terminals to support chip and PIN in stores, Home Depot has completed a major new payment security project that provides enhanced encryption of payment data at point of sale in the company’s U.S. stores.
  •  Target: As of this month, Target has completed installation of chip and PIN readers in all its 1,801 stores.  Starting in early 2015, stores will begin accepting all chip-enabled cards and reissuing more than 20 million Target-brand chip and PIN enabled credit and debit cards.
  •  Visa: Visa will invest more than $20 million to educate consumers and merchants on chip and other secure technologies, while also sending experts to 20 cities in a national public service campaign.
  • Walgreens: As of today, Walgreens has chip and PIN readers in all its 8,200 stores, and starting in early 2015, stores will begin accepting cards with these upgraded features.
  • Walmart: By November 1, 2014, all of the nearly 5,000 Walmart and Sam’s Club U.S. stores will have activated chip and PIN readers.
The Continued Need for Congress to Act on Data Breach and Cybersecurity Legislation: While President Obama and his Administration continue to take every possible step to secure our transactions and information, it remains clear that American businesses and consumers demand Congressional action.
As the President outlined in his Cybersecurity Legislative Proposal and as was reiterated in the recent report to the President on Big Data, the current patchwork of laws governing a company’s obligations in the event of a data breach is unsustainable, and helps no one.
  • Data Breach Legislation: Today we are calling on Congress to act with urgency on data breach legislation, to bring clarity to the expectations consumers should have when their data has been breached, and to steps companies must take to notify their customers of risks after such security breaches.
  • Cybersecurity Legislation: We are also calling on Congress to pass meaningful cybersecurity legislation that will help the Government better protect Federal networks and legislation that appropriately balances the need for greater information sharing and strong protection for privacy and civil liberties — respecting the longstanding responsibilities of civilian and military agencies.
