In January 2008 Rohr and his organization sponsored a conference called “Jesus and Buddha: Paths to Awakening.” The announcement said, “The teachings of both Jesus and Buddha call us to transformational honesty. They are both teaching us how to see, and how to see all the way through! They both knew that if you see God for yourself, you will see the Divine in all things.” Rohr says that his philosophy teaches “us to be both-and” and “keeps us from either-or.” It “keeps us from the false choice of liberal or conservative” and “allows us to enjoy both sides of things”; it “is far beyond my religion versus your religion” and “allows us to be both distinct and yet united.” In fact, this is the essence of Hinduism, the New Age, and the Emerging Church. Biblical Christianity, on the other hand, teaches us that there is truth and error, right and wrong, good and bad, God and the Devil, light and dark, that there is only one way of salvation and many false ways, and that men are either saved or lost. The end-time New Age Tower of Babel is being built before our very eyes."

PAGAN PRACTICES AND SEXUAL SIN EMBRACED

The "Emergent" church needs to be on everyone's radar. Their ideas and approach are poison. This is NOT authentic, biblical Christianity, and it's becoming more evident all the time. Many of the leaders are truly "coming out of the closet" and unashamedly advocating heresy. The Emergent Church leaders are now collaborating with a pro-homosexual Catholic priest, Richard Rohr. He is on the docket at conferences with Brian McLaren, Shane Claiborne, Phyllis Tickle and others. Just a quick background: these "Emergent" leaders advocate pagan spirituality dressed in new clothes."Practices" not belief, "spiritual formation" and other approaches are unveiled as alternatively "progress" or a return to ancient church practices. But it's mystical "knowledge" (i.e., contact with some spirit) that is sought over faithful doctrine informed by Scripture. Contemplative prayer, seeking some "experience" of God, is an open door to deception, and is not the prayer model of Scripture, nor does God ever teach us that sensational experiences are the key to knowing Him. These are sensualists, not authentic believers. How did Jesus tell us to know Him? "...If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. Then you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-32) "Spiritual formation" comes through authentic belief in Christ as Savior, repentance of sin, and embrace of all the truth He teaches. Failure to accept that, is failure to have the Holy Spirit enter your heart. It's that simple. The only "spiritual formation" that will then happen will be through demons. And it may seem like revelation and enlightenment. But it's a sham. Truth becomes really unimportant in the Emergent model.The message is that Christ is not necessarily the only way to salvation, and we need to reconsider homosexuality, and abortion,and not be hateful like the fundamentalists are.They engage in near-constant trash-talk about the "religious right," meaning those who want to expose this deception and remain biblically-faithful. Youth are gobbling this up, especially those with little biblical background, because it is packaged as a way to embrace worldly sexual sin and still believe one is a "christian." If you see any of this creeping or galloping into your your churches, beware. These are the doctrines of demons. Richard Rohr, a Franciscan priest, talks about "practices" being the key--he advocates running away from doctrine--and there's a reason he avoids doctrine. His angle is not just the "social gospel," i.e., feeding the poor brings salvation, although he does talk about this. His web site really shows his main focus: "rites of passage" masculinity retreats for men, where they get in touch with themselves by blending male and female, the "yin" and "yang" of Eastern faiths. There, she teamed up with John Ortberg to create Willow Creek’s curriculum on Spiritual Formation. Today, both Barton and Ortberg are actively doing their part in bringing about this paradigm shift to evangelical Christianity."

After she left Willow Creek, she went on to start her own organization, The Transforming Center. There, her program trains thousands of pastors and church leaders how to become contemplative."

The Zen warning not to confuse the pointing finger…for the moon to which it points is a saying that a Christian mystic easily understands. It is no accident that the most active frontier between Christian and Eastern religions today is between contemplative Christian monks and their Eastern equivalents. Some forms of Eastern meditation informally have been incorporated or adapted into the practice of many Christian monks, and increasingly by other Christians."
    As Ken Silva reported in this same article, Edwards admires and quotes both Catholic and Buddhist monks, and Barton follows suit. There is abundant evidence of this in their writings.

    Sometimes Barton denies any "eastern emptying of the mind" as in this video, which contradicts all prior endorsements of both Catholic and Buddhist mystical practices and her own spiritual "practices" taught to others, and which certainly do involve such emptying into a "state of nothingness". In this video and much of her other media sources there is the emphasis on the "unmediated" (i.e., without Jesus Christ) access to God, which is totally un-Christian.

Florida legislators considering a bill to require abortionists to provide medical care to an infant who survives an abortion were shocked during a committee hearing this week when a Planned Parenthood official endorsed a right to post-birth abortion. Alisa LaPolt Snow, the lobbyist representing the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates, testified that her organization believes the decision to kill an infant who survives a failed abortion should be left up to the woman seeking an abortion and her abortion doctor. "If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?". Daniel Davis then asked Snow, "What happens in a situation where a baby is alive, breathing on a table, moving. What do your physicians do at that point?". "I do not have that information," Snow replied. "I am not a physician, I am not an abortion provider. So I do not have that information.". Rep. Jose Oliva followed up, asking the Planned Parenthood official, "You stated that a baby born alive on a table as a result of a botched abortion that that decision should be left to the doctor and the family.     It is unfortunately rare for any of today's pastor/leaders to even dare to criticize Andy Stanley or a whole host of emergent types. It is also rare for these same anointed ones to even warn their congregations (old word "flocks") of the dangers of these superstars of Christianity, which are their godlike models for ministry.
    We seek to offer a perspective on Stanley first to expand on our previous posts and to supplement further for your increased knowledge and awareness so you can blow away all the smoke veiling the energy filled new paradigm of doing church that Stanley markets. We say "markets" for a good reason. That reason is his adulation for the person of Bill Hybels and his business methodologies applied to the re-casting of "church for the unchurched and irreligious".
    We have previously pointed out Stanley's gross (but "purpose driven") naming Obama as our national "pastor-in-chief", despite Obama's evil agendas. But Stanley has deliberately geared all that he says and does to appeal to the unregenerate pop culture rather than show any old fashioned concern about the spiritual growth, maturity, holiness and/or sanctification of existing believers in Christ.
    For that un-Biblical purpose and approach to ministry, Stanley has had to re-think, re-cast, re-shape, re-build, and re-design every single aspect of doing church for the "next generation", not for the present one.
    Stanley has a track record of his beliefs and practices which are known worldwide, which revolve around the basic concept of "church for the unchurched". We can see and hear that in his own words as reported by the Christian Post in two articles:

    Christians Should Not Be Celebrating Seder

While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.” (Matthew26:26-28)

Passover was the oldest of Jewish festivals, older even than the covenant with Moses at Sinai. It was established before the priesthood, the Tabernacle, or the law. It was ordained by God while Israel was still enslaved in Egypt, and by the time of Christ it had been celebrated by God’s people for some fifteen hundred years.

But the Passover Jesus was concluding with the disciples in Matthew 26 was the last divinely sanctioned Passover ever to be observed. No Passover celebrated after that has been authorized or recognized by God. In fact, Christ ended the Passover and instituted a new memorial to Himself. It would not look back to a lamb in Egypt as the symbol of God’s redeeming love and power, but to the very Lamb of God, who, by the sacrificial shedding of His own blood, purchased the salvation of all who believe. In that one meal Jesus both terminated the old and inaugurated the new.

Breaking the unleavened bread was a normal part of the traditional Passover ceremony. But Jesus now gave it an entirely new meaning, saying, “This is My body” (Matthew 26:26). The original unleavened bread symbolized total detachment from the old life in Egypt, carrying nothing of its pagan and oppressive “leaven” into the Promised Land. It represented a separation from worldliness and sin and the beginning of a new life of holiness and godliness.

By His divine authority, Jesus transformed that symbolism into another. Henceforth the bread would represent Christ’s own body, sacrificed for the salvation of men. Luke reports that Jesus added, “Do this in remembrance of Me” (Luke 22:19), indicating He was instituting a memorial of His sacrificial death for His followers to observe.

In saying the bread is His body, Jesus obviously was not speaking literally. A similarly foolish misunderstanding already caused the Pharisees to ridicule Him and many superficial disciples to desert Him (John 6:48-66). It is the same misunderstanding reflected in the Roman Catholic doctrine of transubstantiation. That literalistic notion is an absurd misinterpretation of Scripture. Jesus’ statement about eating His body was no more literal than His saying He is the Vine and His followers are the branches (John 15:5), or than John the Baptist’s calling Him the Lamb of God (John 1:29).

As the disciples drank of the cup, Jesus said, “This is My blood of the covenant” (Matthew 26:28). Luke’s gospel indicates that the Lord specified “new covenant” (Luke 22:20), clearly distinguishing it from all previous covenants, including the Mosaic.

When God made covenants with Noah and Abraham, they were ratified with blood (Genesis 8:20; 15:9-10). When the covenant at Sinai was ratified, “Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, and said, ‘Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words’” (Exodus 24:8). When God brought reconciliation with Himself, the price was always blood, because “without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (Hebrews 9:22; cf. 1 Peter 1:2). A sacrificial animal not only had to be killed but its blood had to be shed. “The life of all flesh is its blood” (Leviticus 17:14), and for a life truly to be sacrificed, its blood had to be shed.

Jesus therefore did not simply have to die but had to shed His own precious blood (1 Peter 1:19). Although He did not bleed to death, Jesus bled both before He died and as He died—from the wounds of the crown of thorns, from the lacerations of the scourging, and from the nail holes in His hands and feet. After He was dead, a great volume of His blood poured out from the spear thrust in His side.

There was nothing in the chemistry of Christ’s blood that saves. And although the shedding of His blood was required, it symbolized His atoning death, the giving of His unblemished, pure, and wholly righteous life for the corrupt, depraved, and wholly sinful lives of unregenerate men. That blood made atonement for the sins of all who place their trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

As noted above, the divinely ordained Passover remembrance ended when Jesus celebrated it that night with His disciples. Any observance of it since that time has been based solely on human tradition, the perpetuation of an outward form that has long since lost its spiritual significance. But for those who belong to Jesus Christ, that event in the upper room began a new remembrance of redemption that the Lord will honor until He returns in glory.

As you prepare to celebrate the Lord’s death and resurrection this week, take some time to consider God’s faithful deliverance of His people. If you’ve been redeemed, remember that your salvation was possible only through the sacrifice of Christ on your behalf (Ephesians 2:8-9). And if you have yet to bend your knee in repentance and faith, know that it is only through the shed blood of Christ that you can be set free from the captivity of your sin (2:1-7).
