THE CHURCH MILITANT
Ephesians 5:11-"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them". This Christian News Blog maintains a one stop resource of current news and reports of its own related to church, moral, spiritual, and related political issues, plus articles, and postings from other online discernment ministries, and media which share the aims to obey the biblical commands to shed light on and refute error, heresy, apostasy, cults, and spiritual abuse.
But SBC leaders are quietly abandoning the entire narrative now, pretending that they never supported, or outright denying it altogether. Starting with Al Mohler, he’s held a number of podcasts where he’s recently denounced the worldview of Critical Race Theory — a worldview the denomination officially embraced and adopted in 2019 at the behest of Mohler’s underlings — and calling it “antithetical to the gospel.”
And, after spending years promoting every possible tenet of social justice and intersectionality, SBC president JD Greear denounced it on Twitter recently.
"When Intersectionality joins efforts with the gospel it leaves us with an immature faith, a false hope, and a deceptive vocabulary." -Rosaria Butterfield https://buff.ly/2WstJF7
Which can only lead one to wonder, why all of a sudden are these people — he just as recently as January, intended to double down on their support for Critical Race Theory and intersectionality at the convention all of a sudden jointly shift?
If the Southern Baptist Convention is anything, it isn’t coherent. And the denomination’s lack of any meaningful confession of faith and doctrinal standards leaves it open to being tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine (Ephesians 4:14) and never landing on anything to cohesively hold the denomination in place.
In other words, the denomination goes through cultural movements like dirty diapers and paper plates and when they’re done, they move on to the next. In this case, they appear to be abandoning social justice and embracing a new heresy — at least, new to the Southern Baptist Convention.
Enter the New Apostolic Reformation.
The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) is a dominionist cult — though they deny any organization — that typically embraces a movement called the Seven Mountain Mandate. The Seven Mountain Mandate is what NAR cultists say are seven cultural “mountains” that Christians must conquer in order to usher in the Kingdom of God. These sevel mountains include the arts and entertainment, business and finance, church and religion, media, education, family and health, and government.
The idea is that Christians must take “dominion” (hence the name, Dominionism) over these areas of culture and “Christianize” them. Once Christians have achieved full dominion over these, the Kingdom of God can finally be ushered into Earth.
This is where Ronnie Floyd comes in. Floyd, former SBC president and now president of the Southern Baptist Executive Committee, announced earlier this year that he was launching an investigation into the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC) which is headed by Russell Moore (mentioned above). Moore, who has single-handedly turned the denomination into a social justice boat ride, has been under fire for his push to shift the denomination to the left. Now that he’s being investigated — and churches have withheld money from the denomination because people are tired of throwing their tithes and offerings at his agenda — other SBC leaders are taking note. Several high-ranking employees at the ERLC have moved on in recent months.
But Ronnie Floyd is a dominionist — though he denied this in an email to me a few years ago. His actions speak much louder than his words and his eschatology on several fronts is deeply flawed and over-realized. So much so that Floyd has embraced rank heresy.
Floyd is a friend of Mike Bickle — one of the most highly influential NAR leaders of today — and Floyd has spoken at his IHOPKC church in the past. After participating in the ecumenical NAR event and fully indulging himself in it (he wasn’t just there to preach the gospel, he is fully immersed in the movement), he has spent years attempting to move the denomination in that direction.
Floyd has an over-emphasized view of the power of prayer. While prayer is certainly biblical, edifying, worshipful, and powerful, Floyd’s version of prayer has entered the realm of mystical. And Floyd, as the leader of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Executive Committee and as a leader of the National Day of Prayer, Floyd is merging his mystical beliefs of prayer with the Seven Mountain Mandate and calling on Southern Baptists to join him.
And other SBC leaders have joined him. JD Greear, David Platt, Kevin Ezzell, and a host of other Southern Baptist leaders have joined him. But, interestingly, Russell Moore was not mentioned.
They’ve massaged the mountains a bit. They put the arts and entertainment mountain together with the media mountain and invented the military mountain. But military falls under the government mountain. Nevertheless, the United States New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) types are obsessed with their own US military and war.
It appears that this NAR heresy is going to be the next heresy that Southern Baptists are going to have to fight. The leadership of this denomination are so egregiously undiscerning and unqualified that they just take whatever cultural movement is tossed in their lap at the moment — whether it’s from the progressive left or the conservative right — and run with it until it dies or something new comes along.

LTRJ Note:As we were preparing to post this letter to the editor that came to us recently, we came across Christian radio host Janet Mefferd’s Twitter comments about Southern Baptist Convention president J.D. Greear’s involvement with a “Neighborly Faith” event on March 5th titled “Hope in the Current Age: A Conversation on Christianity and Islam.” Mefferd stated, “Before Greear’s interfaith dialogue, 64% of Christian attendees felt “positive” about Islam. After, 76% of Christians “said their attitude toward Islam was more positive than before!” Way to go, SBC. Is this what it means to be “missional?” Mefferd asks the question, “Southern Baptist pastors and laymen: Is it OK w/you that all these SBC leaders are pushing Christian-Muslim ‘interfaith dialogue?’ Is this why you are part of the SBC?”
Dear Lighthouse Trails:
Could you please check this out? I am stunned by what I have heard and read about this new group of people called:Neighborly Faith.
Neighborly Faith urges evangelicals to find a :”third way” to befriend Muslims:
There are many evangelical Christians getting involved with this, and it is scary when you realize how far this movement has come in a very short period of time.
I just haven’t seen Lighthouse Trails say anything on this movement, and it is really moving quickly into so-called Christian colleges and other places as well.
I see absolutely nothing good coming from this movement, and believe me it is not going to go away either. It’s the speed of the movement and what this group is saying we as Christians should be doing that put a cold chill down my back.
Thank you for reading my e-mail, and I hope you will check this out.
My concern is that the Lord says we are not to go after other gods, and the Islamics/Muslims do not have the same God as we do. Many Christians, from what I’ve read, are being told and are believing that we do indeed share the same God. I know we do not, and I know you know that too.

Imam Omar Suleiman gave a U.S. Congressional invocation May 9, 2019, and just participated in a high profile “inter-faith dialogue” event Thursday March 5, 2020, at North Carolina State University, with J.D. Greearof the Southern Baptist Convention. Both the Democrats who invited him to “prayerfully” address Congress, and Mr. Greear, were willfully blind to the good Imam Suleiman’s open espousal of Sharia supremacism, and traditionalist Islamic Jew-hatred.
In prelude to his discussion of Allah’s “very dramatic action” against a particular group of Jews—transforming them into apes and pigs [Koran 7:166, and 5:60]—Suleiman elucidates what characterizes most Jews—past as prologue—with Koranic indelibility:
“The majority of the people we are talking about obviously, to take lessons from them, we’re not gonna focus on those few good people, few bright spots, but rather focus on mistakes that they [i.e., most of the Koranic Jews] make.”
Suleiman then invokes two Koranic depictions [Koran 2:96 and 2:88], bolstered by an illustration from the canonical hadith [Bukhari Volume 4, Book 55 Prophets 615] which demonstrate their inveterate worldliness, “dunyā,” and resultant deceit.
They had an unusual love for the life of this world and the head [source] of [their] every mistake is loving this life too much and hating death. So we find that all of the trickery [deceit], and all the mistakes that they [the Jews] made stem from their love of dunyā [earthly concerns]”
Referencing the Koranic narrative from sura 7 [7:163–7:166] about the Jews deceitfully laying out nets to avoid “Allah’s” prohibition against actually fishing on the Sabbath, and also citing Koran 5:60, Suleiman provides these details:
Allah says, ‘We told them to become apes,’ [7:166] Allah transformed them, this group of people that took that action into apes and pigs [5:60]…which means their external appearance became apes and pigs, and the idea here was that the people were trying to make Allah out to be a fool, but Allah instead transformed them into animals…The prophet [Muhammad] tells us that these people, which were a village, not the entire Bani Israel, this was a group of Bani Israel, that Allah, after he transformed them, they lived three days as an example to all other people. The older ones were transformed into pigs and the young ones into apes.
Following a brief excursus on why it is inaccurate to refer to contemporary Jews as “sons of apes and pigs,” Suleiman references a hadith [cited by the great legist/philosopher Ibn Rushd, “Averroes”, and here] which illustrates yet another example of Jewish deceit, and the appropriate response of Muhammad’s youngest wife Aisha, who condemned her Jewish interlocutors as brethren of apes and pigs.
She [Aisha] called them brothers of apes and pigs—she didn’t call them the sons.
This usage, “brothers of apes and pigs,” Suleiman maintains, is appropriate for most Jews, given their inveterate Koranic predilection for deceit, endeavoring “to take Allah for a fool.” Indeed, according to the earliest sacralized, pious Muslim biography of Muhammad by Ibn Ishaq just before subduing the Medinan Jewish tribe Banu Qurayza, Islam’s prophet invoked this striking Koranic motif for the Jews debasement, addressing these Jews, with hateful disparagement, as “You brothers of apes.” Ibn Ishaq’s account further maintains that, upon their surrender, Muhammad himself beheaded between 600 to 900 of the adult Jewish males of the Banu Qurayza, and enslaved their wives and children.
Dehumanizing Koranic references to Jews as apes (or apes and pigs) were used explicitly for polemical incitement to large scale, annihilationist pogroms against dhimmi Jewish communities in Granada (within mythically “tolerant” Muslim Spain) during 1066, Baghdad and its environs, proliferating into Iran, at the end of the 13thcentury, and southern Morocco at the close of the 15th century. Echoing Muhammad—and Omar Suleiman—present era ad nauseumrepetition of these Koranic epithets for incitement of Muslim Jew-hatred by three year-old Muslim children, to Sunni Islam’s Papal equivalent Al-Azhar Grand Imam, has also included then Sudanese dictator Omar al-Bashir’s vitriolic call for an annihilationist jihad against Israel during a speech delivered at the headquarters of the ruling Islamic party in Khartoum, broadcast live by Radio Monte Carlo on April 5, 2002:
Let us prepare ourselves for the decisive battle against the Jews, those apes, pigs, and worshippers of calves. This should be a decisive battle…There will be no peace with the Jews…This battle is the battle, and this jihad is the jihad.
Ultimately, Omar Suleiman’s 2012 discourse on the Jews is blunt in directing his canonical Islamic Jew-hatred, especially the requisite “humiliation,” at the state of Israel, and all Jews who support its right to exist.
“We ask Allah to humiliate this Israel, the way that Allah humiliated Bani Israel”
These unwarranted invitations extended to Imam Sulieman illustrate the ongoing, disgraceful failure of those politicians and religious leaders the disingenuous Suleiman engages. Simply put, such non-Muslim “leaders” are devoid of the intellectual honesty and courage required to identify the canonical Islam which animates Suleiman’s Sharia supremacism and Jew-hatred, views which a vast expanse of the world’s Muslims have been educated to share.

J.D. Greear has been a completely different kind of president than any other Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) president in history. Greear’s political and theological progressive bent can be compared to that of the current Pope of the Roman Catholic Church who has been the face of the liberal shift in conservative religious circles.
Last week, Greear met with Omar Sulieman, a radical Islamic leftist extremist who has been denounced by conservatives across the globe for his anti-semitic views and rhetoric. Last year, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi invited him to give the opening prayer which was deemed a “terribly bad call” by Republicans. Sulieman has repeatedly called for the Third Intifada, an uprising of Palestinians against Israel and has cursed Zionists as the “enemies of God,” compared “apartheid Israel” to the “Nazis,” claimed that Gaza was enduring “a Holocaust,” denounced the “Israeli regime” as “terrorist,” and compared the Israeli army to the Taliban.
Sulieman is clearly and without a doubt a radical Islamic extremist who hates every Judeo-Christian, and has mesmerized undiscerning and unintelligent Christian leaders such as Greear and Matt Chandler.
During the meeting which was sponsored by the Veritas Forum and Neighborly Faith — ecumenical organizations that serve the purpose of seeking common ground between Christianity and paganism — and hosted at NC State, Greear and Sulieman discussed issues such as mutual suspicion between Christians and Muslims. It was clear that Greear is highly uneducated on Islam and especially the history of Sulieman himself.
Greear stands in opposition to the Southern Baptist Convention’s 2016 resolution that supports the right of Israel to exist as a sovereign nation and rejects any calls or advances to boycott the nation. By partnering with Sulieman, Greear gives tacit approval to Sulieman who supports The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.
Bottom line, Greear shows his ineptness as a leader by sitting on stage, listening to this anti-Islamic, anti-American, anti-Semitic, anti-Christian extremist lie and say he wishes for peace and buying into it indiscriminately all while throwing Christians who reject the Islamic radicalization of the West under the bus. Sulieman does not wish for peace, he wishes for the destruction of Israel, the destruction of American Western civilization, and the destruction of Christianity.
And he’s willing to lie to do it — and J.D. Greear is helping him.
Southern Baptist leaders most responsible for the liberal drift in the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) – chiefly Albert Mohler and Danny Akin, presidents of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary respectively – claim there is no liberal drift in the denomination. Meanwhile, both seminaries have sold out to the leftist ideologies of Critical Race Theory, Cultural Marxism, and progressive Social Justice.
In response, a new coalition of conservative Southern Baptists is forming to help drive the denomination back to the right, where it belongs.
The Conservative Baptist Network is being launched today and will help to coalesce conservatives together in an increasingly liberal denomination. The Christian Post cites Brad Jurkovich of First Baptist Church in Bossier City, Louisiana…
“We are concerned about the current road our Southern Baptist family is traveling. It is a road that is twisting what God’s Word is saying about things like human sexuality, biblical racial reconciliation, and socialistic justice.”
He continues, “There are three choices that every pastor and church have to make.”
Those three options, Jurkovich explains, are to remain in the SBC and say nothing and watch it drift into obscurity; walk away entirely, cognizant of what they are leaving behind; or remain within the denomination and contend for the restoration of what has been lost in recent years.
Liberals in the SBC have had a field day mocking the movement, claiming the SBC is perfectly conservative and anyone who says otherwise might as well be living in a tin-foil hat.
Communicating with ERLC official and professional idiot, Bart Barber, Beth Moore mocked the idea and excused leftism by claiming “nobody really follows the Scripture.”
The time has come for ordinary Southern Baptists to acknowledge that the Southern Baptist Convention has been overtaken by forces far more left than those who held the reigns prior to the Conservative Resurgence. The leaders of that movement in the 1980s would not be able to fathom the leftward drift of the SBC or the betrayal of conservatism at the hands of Albert Mohler and other once-conservative leaders.
