The Muslim Community Patrol will doubtless be on the lookout for incidents of “Islamophobia,” that is, anti-Muslim “hate crimes,” which is entirely unnecessary, since the NYPD exists, and such incidents are actually quite rare according to FBI hate crime statistics — much less common than incidents of anti-Semitism.
Will the Muslim Community Patrols also be on the lookout for Muslims who are violating Sharia provisions, such as the prohibition on drinking alcohol? It isn’t inconceivable, although the very question will be denounced as “Islamophobic.” But we have seen Sharia patrols in Austria, Denmark, Sweden, the UK, the Netherlands, and Germany. So why is it inconceivable that they could arise in New York City? It isn’t.
Then what will happen if the MCP apprehends someone for violating Sharia in a way that does not contravene American law?

“New York Muslims have a new security patrol group,” by Tina Moore and Stephanie Pagones, New York Post, December 24, 2018:

…A car from the new Muslim Community Patrol has been spotted around the city, joining the Jewish enclave’s Shomrim and the Brooklyn Asian Safety Patrol among New York’s culture-specific security groups.
The white Ford Taurus bears insignia nearly identical to those of an NYPD patrol car — with blue horizontal stripes down the sides, a shield on the front driver’s side door and the words “Muslim Community Patrol” descending on the rear door, where a department vehicle would say “Courtesy Professionalism Respect.”
The vehicle was recently spotted cruising along Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn’s Bay Ridge, home to a burgeoning Muslim population….

 Muslim Patrol In New York City

 Residents in New York City are worried about the new Muslim community patrol group. They fear sharia law creep will start to happen in heavily Muslim districts. All you have to do is look to the UK where similar Muslim Patrol groups operate to see the impact on life they have had in those areas.

“This group is not officially sanctioned by the NYPD, they’re subject to the law”

This statement from NYPD Sergeant Jessica McRorie is interesting: “This is not an NYPD vehicle. The NYPD did not outfit or label this vehicle. This group is not officially sanctioned by the NYPD and they are subject to the law.”

 If the Muslim Community Patrol is not officially sanctioned by the NYPD, isn’t it subject to laws regarding impersonating a police officer? But would anyone dare risk charges of “Islamophobia” in Bill de Blasio’s New York by pursuing such an inquiry? Not on your life.

An update on this story. “NYC ‘Muslim Community Patrol’ Car Not Approved by Us, NYPD Says,” by Tyler O’Neil, PJ Media, January 2, 2019 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):

In late December 2018, New York residents spotted a white and blue “Muslim Community Patrol” (MCP) vehicle that looks like an official NYPD vehicle. Yet in a statement to PJ Media on Wednesday, the NYPD disavowed any link to the Muslim Community Patrol. Any attempts to enforce Sharia (Islamic law) would not be sanctioned by the police.

“This is not an NYPD vehicle,” Sergeant Jessica McRorie told PJ Media. “The NYPD did not outfit or label this vehicle. This group is not officially sanctioned by the NYPD and they are subject to the law.”

The New York Post reported on the Muslim Community Patrol vehicle on Christmas Eve last year. The Muslim Community Patrol joined the Jewish population’s Shomrim and the Brooklyn Asian Safety Patrol, longstanding religious and racial community groups that provide security for local minorities.

The Post found the patrol car — a white Ford Taurus with the MCP insignia nearly identical to those of an NYPD patrol car with the words “Muslim Community Patrol” where an official police vehicle would read “Courtesy Professionalism Respect” — cruising on Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn’s Bay Ridge, a local community with a growing Muslim population….

When the Brooklyn Asian Safety Patrol (BASP) launched in 2014, it had close ties to the police department. “They are our eyes and ears,” NYPD Deputy Inspector James Grant, who helped start the program, told the Post in 2014. The group received civilian-observation-patrol training from the NYPD, as well as support from the volunteer Jewish watch group Shomrim.

The BASP launched with a team of 15 Asian-American residents, walkie-talkies, uniforms, and two NYPD-style patrol cars. Its members — like those of Shomrim — do not have the authority to stop and detain people, but they call 911 if they witness a crime or spot someone acting suspiciously. NYPD officers will then come and stop, question, and frisk people if warranted….

The BASP uses cars with an official NYPD logo, unlike the Muslim Community Patrol cars.

Given this background, the NYPD’s full-throated insistence that there is no link between the Big Apple’s police and the MCP suggests that the Islamic group does not enjoy the same status and training as Shomrim or BASP….
