School district to mother:
No Common Core opt-outs,
let us humiliate your kids:
EXCERPTS:
"An Ohio school district told a worried parent that she wasn’t allowed to opt-out of Common Core testing for her kids–and then it forced the kids to be weighed and measured as part of body mass index testing.""The angry mother, Sarah Lewis, said her request to opt her kids out of any school-sponsored Common Core testing was vigorously rejected by Celina City Schools Superintendent Jesse Steiner, according to The Heartland Institute."
"“This is a nine-year-old girl that is already uncomfortable with her body as it starts to change and you hand her a paper that says ‘you need to exercise more’ while you serve hot dogs in the school cafeteria—are you kidding me?” said Lewis."
"Lewis believes her opposition to Common Core made her children political targets."

Mother: Superintendent Targeted My Kids Over Common Core Test Opt-Out:
EXCERPT:
Opt Outs Are LegalOhio law allows children to opt out of tests, said John Charlton, spokesman for the Ohio Department of Education (ODE). The state also recently repealed an earlier law requiring school districts to calculate kids’ BMIs. Even when BMI screening was mandatory, parents and schools could opt out of it by sending a letter to the state, he said. Now a school district can choose to screen BMIs, but the state doesn’t require it. “The superintendent was being personal and vindictive because he was angry. He decided to take it out on my kids,” Lewis said Thursday afternoon, her voice shaking. She said her children went to school this morning, as usual, but they were afraid.

Dr. Terrence Moore on Common Core, Celina Ohio;
One Hour Speech:
EXCERPT:
"At a state Senate education hearing, a kindergarten teacher from Sikeston, Missouri, described that she has been intimidated by both her school district and the local school board for speaking out against the Common Core Learning Standards."
“It’s the reason I’ve been so nervous,” she said. “It’s so hard for me to speak. Because you have no idea what I have been through over the past six weeks because of my stand. And the reason I took this stand is because it was right for my kids. They’re my main priority.”
