"I can get really heated over the issue of mandatory vaccines. And
this issue is becoming a greater menace as nurses are being bullied into
taking yearly flu shots! I left the profession a year ago before things
became weird.
I declined the flu shot for most of my 22 years of nursing practice
and what I’m learning about the newer disturbing practices against
nurses that decline the vaccines is very troubling.
Before leaving nursing, I could sense how the atmosphere was turning
against those that chose to not have the flu shot. I was mandated to
sign a formal declination form and take what my hospital called “Flu
School”. Flu School was a computer based module.
I mean, what are our rights of refusal? Being fired for declining
these questionable vaccines is beyond reason and logic. There is no
concrete proof that these vaccines do what they claim and the evidence
stacking up against their safety is cause for pause to re-evaluate this
issue instead of penalizing the dissenters.
It becomes very tiresome to tune into the news and get programmed
with a bunch of scare tactics and all the propaganda campaigns in the
hospitals to use fear to get people to agree to taking these vaccines.
If they were so wonderful, why the push for them so hard?
I especially have a mistrust of vaccines because my beloved
Grandmother lived with the effects of polio after taking the vaccine to
prevent polio. I remember hearing all the stories and seeing pictures of
a vibrantly healthy woman before I was born. I so wished that I knew
her before the contraction of polio. I learned to care for her many
health issues as a little girl and that’s what inspired me to go into
nursing.
And nurses are being made to feel ostracized when they decline the
vaccines by being made to wear face masks. Nurses need to really
organize and fight back against this violation of rights.
I got out right before this thing really went South but I care about
my fellow nurses and wish them well in their taking a stand and hope
more will do the same and not feel threatened into potentially
jeopardizing their health immediately and in the future."

mandate that will require all children at city-run preschools and
daycare centers to get flu vaccines. NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg and
philanthropists Bill and Melinda Gates top the donor list to proponents
of Amendment 66, the school finance measure that includes a $950 million
tax hike. Bloomberg Philanthropies added $1.05 million to the effort,
and the Gateses contributed $1 million, pushing the Yes on 66
fundraising total past $10.2 million. Those two contributions accounted
for the vast majority of the $2.54 million raised in the last two-week
reporting period for Colorado Commits to Kids, the issue committee
behind the measure. The New York City Board of Health unanimously
approved a mandate Wednesday requiring all children under 5 enrolled in
city-licensed preschools and day cares to receive the flu vaccine. It is
one of outgoing Mayor Michael Bloomberg's final health initiatives,
which the New York City Department of Health proposed to the Board of
Health in September. "Young children have a high risk of developing
severe complications from influenza," the Health Department said in a
statement. "One-third of children under five in New York City do not
receive an annual influenza vaccination, even though the vaccine safely
and effectively protects them against influenza illness. Young children
often pass influenza to other children and family members, who then
spread the infection to others in the community." The flu vaccine will
be added to the seven other vaccines children under 5 are required to
get, including measles, whooping cough and chicken pox. "We know that
influenza is a serious illness which affects an estimated 15% to 40% of
children during annual flu season," said Dr. Jay Varma, who oversees
infectious diseases as deputy commissioner of the New York City Health
Department. Richard Kanowitz, president of Families Fighting Flu, lost
his daughter at age 4 to the virus. "This is great news for children,"
he said. "Had the same law been in effect when my daughter was alive in
2004, she'd be alive today. She would not have gotten the flu." "Only 60
percent of children under the age of 5 in New York City get
vaccinated," Dr. Varma said. "In New Jersey and Connecticut, where they
have this requirement, it's 80%." The issue of vaccinating children is
controversial. One consistent claim is that vaccines can cause autism.
"This was a very closed process," said John Gilmore, director of the
Manhattan-based Autism Action Network. "We will most likely be filing a
lawsuit fairly soon to overturn this. From a legal standpoint, we see
this as similar to the soda ban," referring to the mayor's unsuccessful
attempt to ban sugary drinks. Varma said the myths that flu shots can
cause the flu, or worse, are just that, myths. "It does not cause you to
get the flu; it does not cause you to get autism," he said. The flu
vaccine is available in two forms -- shot or nasal spray -- and children
are required to get vaccinated by December 31. "To the extent that this
saves lives, it's great news," Kranowitz said. "I wish my daughter had
had the vaccination because, I, as well as other parents, were unaware
how the flu killed healthy children. So the only way to protect them is

Pregnant Nurse Fired for Refusing Flu Shot:

LANCASTER, Penn. (WKRC) -- A
Pennsylvania nurse says she was fired from her job for refusing to get a
flu shot.Dreonna Breton was a nurse at Lancaster General Hospital in
Pennsylvania. The hospital required her to receive a flu vaccine
earlier this year. But, she refused.She has had two miscarriages in the
past year and she was worried the flu vaccine could complicate her
pregnancy. The hospital fired her.There are risks of getting the flu
during pregnancy. I know that as well. I did my research on that as
well; but the unknowns of the flu vaccine were more risky for me. It
was more overwhelming for me to put my body through that and potentially
harm my child than the risks of the flu, so that's the decision that we
made as a family and felt very comfortable with.Her former employer
says the mandatory immunization is to protect patients and employees
from getting potentially serious infections. Breton says she has no
plan to sue the hospital. She only want them to change their policy on

many of its drivers are speeding, and where they are while they’re doing
it. Farley has since retracted his statements.
Farley was trying to describe how much data Ford has on its
customers, and illustrate the fact that the company uses very little of
it in order to avoid raising privacy concerns: “We know everyone who
breaks the law, we know when you’re doing it. We have GPS in your car,
so we know what you’re doing. By the way, we don’t supply that data to
anyone,” he told attendees."
North Carolina homeschool parents erupted in
anger when David Mills, director of the state’s Department of Non-Public
Education, said he planned to randomly visit homeschools across the
state for “review of tests results, immunization records, and attendance
records showing that schools have operated for nine months.”
Although state law requires annual inspections of school records,
parents complained the visits would violate the Fourth Amendment, which
forbids warrantless searches of private property.
“Homeschool families should follow the law relating to the keeping of
records and their lawful inspection, but should not be compelled to let
any government official into their house,” said Lt. Governor Dan Forest
(R) in a statement .
After Forest’s objections, Mills’ office released a statement
saying no visits have been conducted or are planned. It also said DNPE
would conduct visits in a neutral location “such as a church basement”
or allow families to submit records by email. Both offices declined to
comment on any future plans for site visits. History of Home Visits Thirty years ago, when
North Carolina legalized homeschooling, state officials visited every
home and private school. Today, there are more than 50,000 homeschool
students in the state, so with its five staff members DNPE decided to
conduct random visits.
The drop-in idea resurfaced this August when homeschool student Erica
Lynn Parsons, 15, was reported missing after two years away from her
home. Had she been under public school instruction, Parsons would have
been reported missing more quickly. This story caused some people to ask
about the degree to which homeschoolers are held accountable, said
Kevin McClain, president of North Carolinians for Home Education.
McClain says homeschool parents should have welcomed the site visits
to maintain their public credibility. Mills’ visits entailed an
invitation to families when he visited a particular region of the state.
If the meeting time he suggested was inconvenient, parents could
decline. Mills told McClain he didn’t even need to go into families’
homes, but could have their discussion on the front porch or in a
neutral location.
Before retracting his planned visits, Mills had planned to start with five homeschool families. Government’s Proper Place McClain says Mills and the DNPE are the paradigm of good government in this case, not overbearing.
“I have a view of government people struggle with,” McClain said. “I
think good government supports the good work of good people. DNPE
actually behaves like public servants.”
McClain said he was not surprised by Forest’s negative reaction,
since Forest is also a home school parent, but he was surprised about
the governor’s strong statements.
Although he recognizes the need for healthy skepticism of an
intrusive government, McClain says this department is an exception to
the rule.
“There is a long history of positive and respectful relationship
[between homeschool families and the] DNPE,” McClain said. “These
officials are good. They are deeply invested in the right and freedom to

FACT SHEET: Strengthening the Federal Background Check System to Keep Guns out of Potentially Dangerous Hands
Today, the Administration is announcing two new executive actions that will help strengthen the federal background check system and keep guns out of the wrong hands. The Department of Justice (DOJ) is proposing a regulation to clarify who is prohibited from possessing a firearm under federal law for reasons related to mental health, and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is issuing a proposed regulation to address barriers preventing states from submitting limited information on those persons to the federal background check system.
Too many Americans have been severely injured or lost their lives as a result of gun violence. While the vast majority of Americans who experience a mental illness are not violent, in some cases when persons with a mental illness do not receive the treatment they need, the result can be tragedies such as homicide or suicide.
The Administration takes a comprehensive approach to mental health issues by expanding coverage of mental health services so care is affordable, launching a national conversation on mental health to reduce stigma associated with having a mental illness and getting help, directing funds we have now to improve mental health facilities, and proposing more funds be used for efforts such as training additional mental health professionals.
At the same time, the Administration is committed to making sure that anyone who may pose a danger to themselves or others does not have access to a gun. The federal background check system is the most effective way to assure that such individuals are not able to purchase a firearm from a licensed gun dealer. To date, background checks have prevented over two million guns from falling into the wrong hands.
The Administration’s two new executive actions will help ensure that better and more reliable information makes its way into the background check system. The Administration also continues to call on Congress to pass common-sense gun safety legislation and to expand funding to increase access to mental health services.
Progress to Strengthen the Federal Background Check System
Over the past year, the Administration has taken several steps to strengthen the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which is used to run background checks on those who buy guns from federally licensed gun dealers to make sure they are not prohibited by law from owning a firearm. For example:
The President directed federal agencies to make all relevant records, including criminal history records and information related to persons prohibited from having guns for mental health reasons, available to the federal background check system. This effort is beginning to bear fruit. In the first nine months after the President’s directive, federal agencies have made available to the NICS over 1.2 million additional records identifying persons prohibited from possessing firearms, nearly a 23% increase from the number of records federal agencies had made available by the end of January.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives published a letter to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
States are one of the key sources of data on persons prohibited from having guns, including felons and those prohibited for mental health reasons. That’s why the President took action to invest an additional $20 million this year to improve incentives for states to share this information with the federal background check system. In September 2013, DOJ awarded $27.5 million to 42 states and one territory to strengthen the firearms background check system by improving their abilities to share information with the NICS. In addition, the Administration is proposing $50 million for this purpose in FY2014, and Congress should act to provide these critical resources.
Two New Actions to Further Strengthen the Federal Background Check System
Some states have reported that certain barriers under current law make it difficult for them to identify and submit appropriate information to the federal background check system regarding individuals prohibited under federal law from having a gun for mental health reasons. Today, DOJ and HHS are taking steps that will help address these barriers.
Some states have noted that the terminology used by federal law to prohibit people from purchasing a firearm for certain mental health reasons is ambiguous. Today, DOJ is issuing a proposed rule to make several clarifications. For example, DOJ is proposing to clarify that the statutory term “committed to a mental institution” includes involuntary inpatient as well as outpatient commitments. In addition to providing general guidance on federal law, these clarifications will help states determine what information should be made accessible to the federal background check system, which will, in turn, strengthen the system’s reliability and effectiveness.
Some states have also said that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act’s (HIPAA) privacy provisions may be preventing them from making relevant information available to the background check system regarding individuals prohibited from purchasing a firearm for mental health reasons. In April 2013, HHS began to identify the scope and extent of the problem, and based on public comments is now issuing a proposed rule to eliminate this barrier by giving certain HIPAA covered entities an express permission to submit to the background check system the limited information necessary to help keep guns out of potentially dangerous hands. The proposed rule will not change the fact that seeking help for mental health problems or getting treatment does not make someone legally prohibited from having a firearm. Furthermore, nothing in the proposed rule would require reporting on general mental health visits or other routine mental health care, or would exempt providers solely performing these treatment services from existing privacy rules.
Calling on Congress to Act
While the President and the Vice President continue to do everything they can to reduce gun violence, Congress must also act. Passing common-sense gun safety legislation – including expanding background checks and making gun trafficking a federal crime – remains the most important step we can take to reduce gun violence. The vast majority of Americans support these critical measures, which would protect our children and our communities without infringing on anyone’s Second Amendment rights.
In addition, the President’s FY 2014 Budget proposes a new $130 million initiative to address several barriers that may prevent people – especially youth and young adults – from getting help for mental health problems. The President and the Vice President continue to call on Congress to appropriate funds for these important purposes.

The incident reportedly unfolded on Dec. 13, when 6-year-old Isaiah Martinez brought gifts for his peers to Merced Elementary School in West Covina, Calif. According to a press release distributed by Advocates for Faith & Freedom, the firm handling the case, "Each gift consisted of a traditional candy cane with a message attached that recited the legend of the candy cane. A report from the National Academy of Sciences made the observation that the percentage of the ocean floor covered by decomposing organisms had increased from 1% coverage to 98% coverage — the highest in the 24 years they had been observing. They tried to correlate the findings to global warming. However, since data for the past 17 years shows no global warming despite a record increase in CO2, global warming is not the cause of the observed increase. Climate alarmists tried to "debunk" our report by saying that the dramatic increase in dead organisms was only a local observation at one station. If that were true, then why would it argue for GLOBAL warming as the NAS paper concludes? Actually the report said "The major increase in activity of deep-sea life in 2011 and 2012 WEREN'T LIMITED to Station M, though: Other ocean-research stations REPORTED SIMILAR DATA." [emphasis mine] Finally, the spike in dead salps ocurred in a timeframe that correlates well with the Fukushima event, there was no climate event that could correlate to the increase.
