AMID COVID-19, DEEP STATE MOVES IN FOR THE KILL AGAINST CHURCHES

AMID COVID-19, DEEP STATE MOVES IN
FOR THE KILL AGAINST CHURCHES

With churches across much of America being shutdown by government decree as “non-essential,” they are facing enormous and potentially existential threats. On one hand, churches are being terrorized by state and local governments, with pastors and congregations literally being fined or even arrested for simply attending a service. Then, when the churches try to stream online, Deep State-run Big Tech firms are censoring them or even shutting them down. At the same time, many churches across America are lining up to receive government bailout money — cash that comes with dangerous strings attached, including LGBT mandates. This represents a profound threat to religious liberty and the continued independence of the church in America. It could be a perfect storm.
Even on Resurrection Sunday, perhaps the most important date on the Christian calendar, state and local governments came down hard on churches. Before that, at churches in Mississippi, congregants were given $500 fines for attending — even though they remained in their cars for the entire service. Meanwhile, drive-thru restaurants in the area remained open for business. In Kentucky, far-left Governor Andy Beshear ordered police to go take down church attendees' license plate numbers. In Virginia, Pastor Kevin Wilson of Lighthouse Fellowship Church was charged with violating executive decrees by the governor purporting to shut down churches, and may face up to a year in jail. Prominent Florida pastor Rev. Rodney Howard-Browne, arguing that church is essential, was arrested for holding services. Similar abuses have been perpetrated by the murderous dictatorship enslaving Communist China.
The notion that churches are not “essential,” and that government gets to arbitrarily decide that abortion mills and marijuana shops are essential while churches are not, is beyond outrageous. And yet, it has happened across much of the nation, with very little resistance so far. Non-profit legal firm Liberty Counsel is working on these sorts of cases and has found some success. But across the nation, radical governors, and mayors have exploited coronavirus hysteria to act like dictators, imagining that they get to tell churches when, how — and even if — they are allowed to meet. Historically, churches have always been essential, especially during tough times when people need help. But today, many pastors have meekly accepted the dictatorial usurpation of power by government with barely a whimper.
Countless pastors have been satisfied with simply moving their services online. But once again, the Deep State is finding ways to shut them down, too. Consider the case of Christ Church in Moscow, Idaho. Last week, Google, owned by the same company that owns Youtube, removed the church's app from its “Google Play” store because the pastor allegedly did not show enough sensitivity. “We don’t allow apps that lack reasonable sensitivity towards or capitalize on a natural disaster, atrocity, conflict, death, or other tragic event,” the notice received by the church explained. “Your app has been suspended and removed due to this policy issue.” Facebook, too, regularly censors and discriminates against Christians. Even those that do not get directly attacked are likely to self-censor to avoid getting banned.
Perhaps even more alarming is the showering of government money on churches — naturally, with strings attached. The New American reached out to the “Office of Diversity Inclusion and Civil Rights” at the Small Business Administration to find out whether churches taking bailout money would be forced to hire homosexuals as part of the “non-discrimination” requirements. At first, the person on the phone said yes. However, after that initial response, the phone operator said the SBA was expecting a formal answer from the legal department no later than today or tomorrow. The New American will post an update if and when there is more information. In the meantime, numerous establishment-minded Christian bigwigs are helping churches sign up for government money.
Revered Thomas Littleton, a Southern Baptist from Alabama, warned about the trap the churches are walking right into. “This never before and unthinkable move will spell the end of church as we know it in America as churches now become debtors and grant recipients of the government through the Small Business Administration,” he warned on his popular blog Thirty Pieces of Silver, calling on churches to trust in the Lord rather than government. While religious liberty and the freedom of churches in America have historically been protected from government interference by the Constitution, that “constitutional refuge is about to evaporate and everything turned on it’s head as the church and ministries become funded by the federal government stimulus.”
The true church will never fail, Reverend Littleton explained, citing promises from God contained in the Bible. However, many individual churches and ministries have gone and will continue to go “apostate,” he warned. “As loan / grant / bailout recipients, churches will be under Small Business Administration obligations for the 10-year life span of the loan, or forever if the loan is converted to a grant and not repaid,” said Littleton, who has long warned about an “Evangelical Deep State” that is leading many American churches astray. “Also churches who take the funding now will likely not hesitate to do so again in the case of another economic crisis. These bad decisions have long term consequences.”
Among other issues, Littleton noted that as pastors put their signatures on those SBA forms, they agree to comply with all of the federal government's “non-discrimination and inclusion” mandates. This in an era where the Supreme Court has purported to redefine marriage, and where lawmakers are chomping at the bit to criminalize even religious organizations that refuse to bow before the LGBT juggernaut. “Church leaders will not bite the hand that feeds them,” Littleton said, adding that churches taking government money will never be the same. “Going forward, any pastor who takes Covid-19 Stimulus funding will be far less likely to speak up to this or any future administration.” Littleton blasted people like Russell Moore with the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission for encouraging and helping churches to take the government funding.
A coalition of Republican U.S. senators is already calling on the Trump administration to take action ensuring that churches do not have to choose between adhering to their religious beliefs and taking bailouts. “As we repeatedly brought to your attention, without these assurances, many of our nation’s most impactful faith-based entities would have been unable to participate in the [Paycheck Protection Program] due to undue restrictions on their sincerely held religious beliefs, thereby forcing them to choose between abandoning their faith mission or closing their doors to both employees and the communities they serve,” they wrote in a letter to Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and SBA boss Jovita Carranza urging the administration not to “discriminate” against faith-based entities.
Of course, the Trump administration, which has made protection of religious liberty a priority, is already expressing concerns about the actions of state and local officials against churches. In a statement issued this week by U.S. Attorney General William Barr, the Department of Justice chief said churches could not be singled out for onerous regulations. “Even in times of emergency, when reasonable and temporary restrictions are placed on rights [sic], the First Amendment and federal statutory law prohibit discrimination against religious institutions and religious believers,” Barr explained. “Thus, government may not impose special restrictions on religious activity that do not also apply to similar nonreligious activity.”
As an example, Barr cited movie theaters, restaurants, concert halls, and “other comparable places,” saying that if they were allowed to remain open and unrestricted, then governments could not order churches to close, limit the congregation size, or otherwise impede their gatherings. “Religious institutions must not be singled out for special burdens,” Barr said, pointing to a “Statement of Interest” the DOJ filed in the Mississippi church case.
On the economic front, there appears to be an enormous consolidation underway that was orchestrated by the Deep State. Mom-and-Pop small businesses are being destroyed by the forced shutdown. Everyday Americans, especially blue-collar Trump supporters, are losing their jobs by the millions. Meanwhile, megabanks connected to the Federal Reserve are drowning in newly created currency, while major corporations such as Walmart and Amazon are expanding as authorities allow them to continue operating as normal.
A similar phenomenon appears to be taking place in the ministry world. Smaller, independent churches are struggling, and many will shut down in the face of this engineered shutdown crisis. Those that survive may either surrender their independence for government money, or merge with larger churches more amenable to carrying water for the establishment. Leaders of churches and religious ministries need to prayerfully consider the consequences of taking “free” taxpayer dollars. The price may be much steeper than they can even imagine.

THE LEFT IS PANICKING THAT THE PANDEMIC WILL ENCOURAGE HOMESCHOOLING
Can’t have parents teaching children
to think for themselves now, can we?
BY MARK TAPSON

One of the more significant social and political consequences of the coronavirus pandemic is the fact that countless American parents of public school-enrolled children suddenly find themselves faced with the daunting prospect of having to homeschool those kids for an indefinite period of time. When normalcy returns, most of those families, who for various reasons are unable or unwilling to continue homeschooling, will simply fall back into their old groove and schooling will resume as before. But many parents may find themselves enlightened and excited about homeschooling’s benefits and how it actually operates, as opposed to common misconceptions, which are usually pejorative. This is a possibility that the secular leftist elites in education will not tolerate.
Decades ago progressive activists realized that revolution was best brought about not through overt attacks on the Establishment, but through subversion from within its structures – in particular, the field of education. After all, children are the future, and thus the surest and most direct way to mold the future is to mold impressionable young minds who are a captive audience for progressive, social justice indoctrination. This is why domestic terrorists like Barack Obama’s ghostwriter Bill Ayres and his (literal) partner-in-crime Bernardine Dohrn abandoned bombmaking for the Weather Underground and became respected, credentialed educators working primarily with children (Ayres earned two master’s degrees in Early Childhood Education and a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction; the law professor Dorhn is one of the founders of the Children and Family Justice Center at Northwestern University School of Law).
The secular left is terrified of losing control of America’s children to homeschoolers, who tend to be (but are not always) conservative and often religious. The secular left also resents the notion of parental control; after all, as former MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry put it bluntly in a network promo several years ago, “We have to break through our kind of private idea that kids belong to their parents or kids belong to their families, and recognize that kids belong to whole communities.” Harris-Perry too was a college educator. In light of developments due to the pandemic, the left is gearing up to clamp down on any increased interest in homeschooling.
One example of the left’s offensive against homeschoolers: the Daily Caller reports that in June, Harvard Law School will be hosting an invite-only “homeschooling summit” to discuss the “problems of educational deprivation and child maltreatment that too often occur under the guise of homeschooling, in a legal environment of minimal or no oversight.” The event, which will host speakers from education and child welfare policy backgrounds as well as academics, policy advocates, and legislators, is sponsored by Harvard Law School’s Child Advocacy Program, in cooperation with the Academy on Violence and Abuse, the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, the Institute for Human Services, the New York Foundling, the William & Mary Bill of Rights Institute, and the Zero Abuse Project. Note how many of those organizations focus on child abuse. That’s because homeschooling parents are often demonized as abusers of their own children in order to justify government intrusion – oops, I mean “oversight” – into private homes.
Among the featured speakers is Harvard Law’s Elizabeth Bartholet, a co-organizer of the event, who has written extensively about the “rapidly growing homeschool phenomena,” which she considers a “threat” to “children and society.” Her June 2019 article, “Homeschooling: Parent Rights Absolutism vs. Child Rights to Education & Protection,” is recommended reading material for the event. The abstract of the piece reads: “This article calls for a radical transformation in the homeschooling regime, and a related rethinking of child rights and reframing of constitutional doctrine. It recommends a presumptive ban on homeschooling, with the burden on parents to demonstrate justification for permission to homeschool” [emphasis added]. Look at that again: a ban on homeschooling, with parents forced to argue for permission from the government to homeschool their own children.
In the article she states that “society loses out” when parents homeschool their children, and homeschooled children are not instilled with the “skills needed to participate productively in society as adults through employment” and will grow up “alienated from society, ignorant of views and values different from their parents.” This is absolutely false. On the contrary, Americans are more aware than ever now that it is our disastrous public school system that churns out students ignorant of their own history and alienated from their parents, their country, their culture, and their God. Our school system from pre-K through graduate school has shifted from transferring knowledge and life skills to children, to indoctrinating them in a social justice agenda while demonizing other viewpoints and even Western culture itself as rife with intolerance, bigotry, racism, and capitalist exploitation.
Bartholet claims that “many” (how many is “many”?) homeschoolers “promote racial segregation and female subservience” and teach their children to – gasp – “question science.” (When progressives use the phrase “question science,” what they mean is that no one should question the leftist politicization of science. They see science not as a method of observation and investigation, but as a belief system that it is blasphemy to “deny,” at least when its conclusions conform to their agenda. Leftists are perfectly comfortable denying science – basic biology, for example – when it doesn’t suit their political needs.)
Bartholet continues her smearing of homeschoolers: “Some homeschooling parents are extreme religious ideologues who live in near-total isolation and hold views in serious conflict with those generally deemed central in our society. For example, some believe that women should be totally subservient to men and educated in ways that promote such subservience,” her article reads.
Another speaker and co-organizer is Prof. James Dwyer of William and Mary School of Law, who argued in his 2001 book Religious Schools v. Children’s Rights that “fundamentalist Christian and Catholic schools may be damaging to children,” through the “excessive restriction of children’s basic liberties, stifling intellectual development, the instilling of dogmatic and intolerant attitudes” as well as “excessive guilt and repression.” Girls especially risk a diminished self-esteem, the book’s summary says. He argues that state policy should be to focus on what is best for children “from a secular perspective.” Because leftist elites, and not parents, know what is best for our children.
A third speaker is Robert Kunzman, associate professor at the Indiana University School of Education and author of Write These Laws on Your Children: Inside the World of Conservative Christian Homeschooling, who also argues for a secular perspective in education and for government “regulation” of homeschooling.
My wife and I are conservative Christians and we have homeschooled our young children from day one. We intend to keep doing so all the way through the college level if necessary. Why? Because as I’ve noted, the leftist-dominated education system from top to bottom is a toxic mix of incompetence, political indoctrination, bureaucratic indifference, and increasing lawlessness among the students themselves as school authorities refuse to discipline certain demographic groups. We homeschool because studies show that homeschooled children are better-educated, better-socialized, and better behaved than their public school peers. We homeschool because it strengthens bonds within our family and among our community of like-minded homeschoolers. We homeschool because we want the best for our children and for our country. We do not, as leftist educators and politicians would have you believe, chain our children in the basement, beat them for failing to memorize the Old Testament, and have them salute the Confederate flag. We teach them to think and read broadly and critically. We teach them that science is an ongoing process, not a dogma. We teach them life skills. We pass on our Judeo-Christian values, which built the greatest, freest, and most tolerant civilization in human history. We teach them to appreciate our culture, our country, and our God. We are raising free American patriots, and we’re part of a surging number of American parents doing the same. As the coronavirus pandemic introduces even more parents to this option, watch the intolerant cultural Marxists of the left wield all the power and hate they can muster to suppress us.

BOB JONES UNIVERSITY HOSTS ROMAN CATHOLIC SPEAKER
(Friday Church News Notes, April 17, 2020, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - The following is excerpted from Machen White, “BJU Then and Now...Abby Johnson,” Apr. 7, 2020, Musings of a Fundamentalist: “On February 2018 Dr. Steve Pettit, president of Bob Jones University, praised Dr. Billy Graham’s ministry and his legacy. During a chapel message on November 7th of 2019, Dr. Bob praised the ministry of Dr. Billy Kim. Dr. Kim has always been a lover of the Graham ministry. It is a well-documented fact that Graham and Kim made partnering with the Roman Catholics (and others) IN MINISTRY a matter of course. On January 23, 2020, BJU invited the public on campus to screen the movie Unplanned created by pro-life advocate Abby Johnson. Then on March 5, 2020, BJU hosted the Piedmont Women’s Center (PWC) for their fundraising event. The speaker for the evening was Abby Johnson. During the event, Johnson ‘preached the gospel.’ On stage, displayed on a banner, were the words of Isaiah 43:19. Johnson said, ‘We must give the gospel to these ladies, not the watered-down Jesus but the powerful Jesus...everyone here is a sinner and in the need of a savior.’ She used the words ‘cross, gospel, sinners, Jesus.’ Folks left the event believing Johnson to be a born again Christian. Here is what they did not know: Johnson was raised a Southern Baptist. Through a series of events, she converted to Roman Catholicism ... Johnson explains her journey away from a gospel-preaching church and into Romanism. She proudly admits that she uses the pro-life platform to evangelize for Romanism.”

POPE SAYS JUDAS IS POSSIBLY IN HEAVEN
(Friday Church News Notes, April 17, 2020, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Speaking at a papal mass on April 8, Pope Francis said, “Something that calls my attention is that Jesus never calls him ‘traitor’: [Jesus] says he will be betrayed, but he doesn’t say to [Judas], ‘traitor.’ He never says, ‘Go away, traitor.’ Never. In fact, he calls him, ‘Friend,’ and he kisses him. … How did Judas end up? I don’t know. Jesus threatens forcefully here; he threatens forcefully: ‘woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed. It would be better for that man if he had never been born.’ But does that mean that Judas is in Hell? I don’t know.” The pope also said there is a “little Judas that each one of us has within” (“Satan pays badly, warns pope,” Aleteia, Apr. 8, 2020). The pope lightly passes over the words of Jesus that it would be better for Judas if he had never been born (Mt. 26:24). When the apostles chose a replacement for Judas after Christ’s ascension, they prayed, “Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place” (Acts 1:24-25). What is Judas’ own place? Jesus answered this in His high priestly prayer, as He said to the Father, “While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the SON OF PERDITION; that the scripture might be fulfilled” (John 17:12). “Perdition” is the Greek apoleia, which is also translated “destruction” (Mt. 7:13) and “damnation” (2 Pe.2:3). It is used for eternal judgment in Romans 9:22; Philippians 3:19; Hebrews 10:39; 2 Peter 2:1, 3; 3:7, 16; and Revelation 17:8, 11. The antichrist is also called “the son of perdition” (2 Thessalonians 2:3).

STREAMING CHURCH SERVICES BANNED IN CHINA
(Friday Church News Notes, April 17, 2020, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - We understand from other sources that some believers are able to work around the ban that is described in the following report, but the ban is real and conditions are always oppressive in China. It is not the land of the free, and we need to pray for God’s people and the work of the gospel there. The following is excerpted from ChristianHeadlines.com, Apr. 7, 2020: “Churches around the world are staying in contact online during the COVID-19 pandemic, but such an action remains illegal in China. The watchdog Bitter Winter reported April 5 that very few organizations, and ‘only those that hold state-issued licenses,’ can stream religious services online in China. ‘We can’t get together because of the pandemic,’ an underground house church pastor in the province of Jiangxi told Bitter Winter. The pastor tried to stream a sermon Feb. 9 through an app, but was stopped. ‘Our first and only online gathering was blocked by the government soon after it started,’ the preacher said. That same day, another house church pastor, in the province of Shandong, also tried to stream online services. ‘The meeting was stopped less than 20 minutes after the start,’ Bitter Winter reported. A 2018 Chinese law bans streaming services. ‘No organizations or individuals will be allowed to live-stream or broadcast religious activities, including praying, burning incense, ordinations, scripture chanting, holding Mass, worshipping or receiving baptism online in the form of text, photo, audio or video,’ the law says. On Feb. 23, the government-approved Two Chinese Christian Councils of Shandong Province issued a notice ‘demanding all churches in the province to stop live-streaming their services immediately,’ Bitter Winter reported. On Feb. 28, the United Front Work Department of the Nanhu district in Jiaxing, a government organization in Zhejiang province, said it would investigate all online activities by state-approved churches. Churches in China must register with the government and join either the Three-Self Patriotic Movement or the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association. But because these state-approved churches face severe restrictions, millions of Christians worship in illegal underground churches.”

UNITED NATIONS PARTNERING WITH SOCIAL MEDIA TO STIFLE FREE SPEECH GLOBALLY
(Friday Church News Notes, April 10, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - The following is excerpted from “World Health Organization,” Reformation Charlotte, Mar. 17, 2020: “Free speech is the foundation upon which a free society is built and when freedom of speech is taken away, society is no longer actually free. In the free world, free speech has been a right protected regardless of the truthfulness of the speech itself. ... The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that it is partnering with social media giants to ‘flag and take down’ ‘misinformation’ regarding the coronavirus pandemic. ABC 7 reports, ‘There is a flow of misinformation online about the virus, which health officials are calling an infodemic and they are mounting a concerted effort to combat it. ... Andy Pattison, the manager of digital solutions at WHO, [says] this could well be the first global infodemic. ... The WHO is working directly with tech companies on a daily basis to flag and take down bad information, and to ensure that facts from reliable sources get to users first’ (‘How COVID-19 infodemic is infecting the internet with false information,’ ABC7news.com, Mar. 6, 2020). Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted in a comment on Facebook recently, ‘Given the developing situation, we’re working with national ministries of health and organizations like the WHO, CDC and UNICEF to help them get out timely, accurate information on the coronavirus. We’re also focused on stopping hoaxes and harmful misinformation...’ While there certainly is a plethora of false information being widely disseminated around social media, a free society has the obligation to allow it, protect the right to it, and to combat it with true information. The fact that a world government organization is partnering with social media to limit the information that they alone deem ‘false’ or ‘misleading’ should raise the hairs on everyone’s necks. This isn’t protecting the public, it’s harming people. It’s outright tyranny on a global scale.”

GESTAPO POLICE STATE NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR SAYS BILL OF RIGHTS IS "ABOVE MY PAY GRADE" WHEN ASKED ABOUT LOCKDOWN ORDERS~TOP NJ POLICE OFFICER SAYS SECOND AMENDMENT IS NOT ESSENTIAL

TYRANT FORGETS HE TOOK AN OATH TO SUPPORT & DEFEND TWO CONSTITUTIONS?
TIME FOR HIS IMPEACHMENT!
GESTAPO POLICE STATE NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR SAYS BILL OF RIGHTS IS
"ABOVE MY PAY GRADE"
WHEN ASKED ABOUT LOCKDOWN ORDERS
BY SELWYN DUKE

Did we just learn that New Jersey governor Phil Murphy didn’t mean a word of the oath of office he took in 2018? Back then he “solemnly” swore to “support” and “bear true faith and allegiance” to the United States Constitution.
Now he says “That’s above my pay grade” when asked if his Wuhan virus lockdown orders violate the Constitution.
The startling admission occurred Wednesday evening when Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson pressed Murphy, a first-term Democrat, “on the constitutionality of his recent executive orders that deem liquor stores essential and business and churches nonessential, which Murphy said he did not consider,” reports the Washington Examiner.
“‘As I noted before, 15 congregants at a synagogue in New Jersey were arrested and charged for being in a synagogue together,’” the Examiner relates, quoting Carlson. “‘Now, the Bill of Rights, as you well know, protects Americans’ right, enshrines their right, to practice their religion as they see fit and to congregate together, to assemble peacefully. By what authority did you nullify the Bill of Rights in issuing this order? How do you have the power to do that?’” Carlson continued.
“‘That’s above my pay grade, Tucker,’ Murphy responded, saying he ‘wasn’t thinking of the Bill of Rights when we did this,’” writes the Examiner.
“‘Well, I can tell,’ Tucker interjected” (video below).
Murphy is one of 42 governors who’ve “locked down” their states in response to the virus pandemic, actions threatening to collapse the U.S. economy and thrust us into a great depression, causing poverty and its related disease and death. Yet his interview, in which he danced around the questions, didn’t inspire confidence in his grasp of the problem.
But most shocking was Murphy’s confessed ignorance of what he, as a chief executive, is supposed to know: the Constitution. Below is video of Murphy taking the oath of office in 2018.
So now we should ask the governor: Were you lying when you swore on that Bible? How did you expect to uphold something above your pay grade? And just how much would we have to pay you (his net worth is currently $60-plus million) for you to bone up on civics?
Murphy likely got his line from Barack Obama, who answered a 2008 question about when a baby gets human rights with the “pay grade” remark (yet still, oddly, felt qualified to sign prenatal infanticide bills). But imagine if a doctor were asked about Hippocratic Oath imperatives and said, “That’s above my pay grade.” Would you hand your child over to him for care? Is he qualified to practice medicine?
In defending his religious-services ban, Murphy said he’d spoken to faith leaders and that they rubber stamped his measures. But this is irrelevant and a dodge. A governor’s violation of millions of people’s constitutionally protected rights isn’t legitimized just because other powerful people agree.
In other words, there may or may not be good reasons — and constitutional ones — for Murphy’s actions, but he didn’t provide them. He clearly doesn’t know what they might be.
Murphy had also recently tried “suspending” the Second Amendment, as some put it, until lawsuits made him back down. But he isn’t alone in ignorance of/indifference to constitutional principles. With the virus scare, we’ve “now witnessed local and state governments issue decrees about what people can and cannot buy in stores, arrest parents playing with their children in public parks, yank people off public buses at random, remove basketball rims along with private property, ticket churchgoers, and in one case try — and fail — to chase down a lone runner on an empty beach,” writes the Federalist.
“The most egregious example of this outpouring of authoritarianism was an attempt by Louisville, Kentucky, Mayor Greg Fischer to ban drive-in church services on Easter,” the site continued. “To remove all doubt about his seriousness, he also threatened arrest and criminal penalties for anyone who dared violate his order, and in an Orwellian twist, invited people to snitch on their fellow citizens.”
Thankfully, a shocked judge issued a restraining order against Louisville, writing, “The Mayor’s decision is stunning. And it is, ‘beyond all reason,’ unconstitutional.”
There have also been other instances of virus-enabled governments singling out and banning church services. In one Mississippi incident, a uniformed cop actually told a pastor that his “rights are suspended.”
One could easily chalk Murphy’s “pay grade” response up to bad word choice, but it’s more like a Freudian slip. The truth: Unschooled in civics and philosophy, moderns are generally indifferent to the Constitution, and the sub-species of moderns called “leftists” are often hostile to it.
Yet principles always matter, and they’re perhaps even more important in times of panic; they can temper rash action. But even in better times leftists see the Constitution as an impediment to their aims; thus have they conjured up the “living document” rationalization so they can (mis)interpret the document to fit their agenda.
Of course, it’s naïve thinking that leftists (and many others), who are fond of saying everything is relative, wouldn’t view the Constitution as relative and, therefore, meaningless. This came through loud and clear with Murphy, too. Once again, what he has done is perhaps less shocking than what he failed to do: consider, even for a moment, when issuing his decrees what he took an oath to uphold.
The real threat today is not a disease, but that we live in post-constitutional America. For a virus won’t destroy our republic. Tyranny can.

RICHMOND, Va. — The Democratic governor of Virginia, Ralph Northam, has signed into a law a bill that repeals several abortion regulations in the state, making it easier for women to end the lives of their unborn children.
“No more will legislators in Richmond — most of whom are men — be telling women what they should and should not be doing with their bodies,” Northam said in a statement. “The Reproductive Health Protection Act will make women and families safer, and I’m proud to sign it into law.”
Senate Bill 733 and House Bill 980, also known as the “Reproductive Health Protection Act” and sponsored by Sen. Jennifer McClellan, D-Richmond, and House Majority Leader Charniele Herring, D-Alexandria, remove requirements for mothers to obtain an ultrasound and to wait 24 hours before proceeding with an abortion.
They also allow nurse practitioners who are licensed by the Virginia boards of Medicine and Nursing to perform first trimester abortions.
“[I]t shall be lawful for any physician licensed by the Board of Medicine to practice medicine and surgery, or any person jointly licensed by the Boards of Medicine and Nursing as a nurse practitioner and acting within such person’s scope of practice, to terminate or attempt to terminate a human pregnancy or aid or assist in the termination of a human pregnancy by performing an abortion or causing a miscarriage on any woman during the first trimester of pregnancy,” the bills read.
McClellan and Herring referred to abortion as “medical” and “healthcare” decisions in a statement released by Northam’s office, in which the existing abortion regulations were referred to as being “anti-woman.”
According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the bill was highly debated in the legislature, and was only passed after Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, a Roman Catholic, broke a 20-20 tie in January by voting in favor of the measure.
Northam, a pediatric neurologist, drew controversy last year after suggesting that babies born with severe deformities or terminal conditions may be allowed to die post-natally, if such is decided between the mother and her doctor.
“When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of obviously the mother, with the consent of the physician — more than one physician, by the way — and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities. There may be a fetus that’s non-viable,” he said during a radio interview with WTOP.
“If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother,” Northam outlined.
Northam’s remarks surrounded a bill proposed by Del. Kathy Tran, D-Fairfax, which would have made it easier for an unborn baby to be killed up until birth should the pregnancy “impair the mental health of the woman.”
“How late in the third trimester could a physician perform an abortion if he indicated it would impair the mental health of the woman?” asked House Majority Leader and Subcommittee Chairman Todd Gilbert, R-Shenandoah.
“Or physical health,” Tran inserted.
“Okay. I’m talking about the mental health,” Gilbert noted.
“So, I mean, through the third trimester,” Tran replied. “The third trimester goes all the way up to 40 weeks.”
Gilbert then asked if that includes the end of the third trimester.
“Yep,” Tran confirmed. “I don’t think we have a limit in the bill.”
Gilbert, continuing to seek clarification, presented the scenario of a woman who is in labor.
“Where it’s obvious a woman is about to give birth — she has physical signs that she is about to give birth, would that still be a point at which she could request an abortion if she was so certified?” he inquired. “She’s dilating.”
Tran, appearing uncomfortable, responded that the matter would be up to the attending physician. Gilbert interjected that he was rather wondering if Tran’s bill would allow for such a situation.
“My bill would allow that, yes,” she admitted.
The measure, House Bill 2491, was subsequently struck down by Republicans in committee.
Virginia law currently allows for third trimester abortions, but with the agreement of three doctors that, absent an abortion, the pregnancy will “substantially and irremediably impair the mental or physical health of the woman.” The abortion must also be performed in a hospital.
Tran’s bill would have removed the mandate that there be a consensus among three physicians and that the abortion take place in a hospital.

Many Christians are opposed to merely regulating abortion but believe it should be made illegal altogether. However, Northam and Tran’s comments have been highlighted by pro-life groups to note the mindsets of abortion advocates.
The late preacher Lee Roy Shelton wrote in “The Crimes of Our Times” in a section on abortion:
“When killing anyone, the murderer is guilty of taking the life which God has given, and therefore he is ‘playing God’ by saying when and how a man should die. But God doesn’t look lightly upon those who try to take His place.”
“God has given us the Sixth Commandment as a fence about human life to preserve it, for it is sacred to Him. Yes, the Bible declares human life to be sacred. It is a divine creation, mysterious and magnificent in its beginning and possibility, utterly beyond the control or comprehension of any human being. It is never to be taken away at the will of anyone, for how can they tell the full meaning of that life and what it will bring forth?”
“The revelation of God made to man out of His blessed Word proves that He has purposes for every individual and for the [human] race, stretching far beyond the present moment or manifestation; and to terminate a single life is to set yourselves up as wiser and superior to God. The immensity of the issues of death is so great that there can be no sin against humanity, and accordingly, against God, greater than that of taking a human life.”
