PRESIDENT TRUMP HOLDS PRESS CONFERENCE WITH PRIME MINISTER OF JAPAN~
POMPEO ALSO SPEAKS

President Trump said Thursday he hopes to normalize relations between the United States and Nk, but noted such a development would happen at the end of the ongoing push to denuclearize the isolated nation. “Normalizing relations is something that I would expect to do, I would hope to do when everything’s complete,” Trump said during a White House press conference with Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. “We would certainly like to see normalization,” he added. Trump added that Nk has “tremendous” potential economically and that Abe, Sk president Moon and China President Xi Jinping have all expressed interest in doing business with Nk. U.S. officials have indicated they would be willing to lift economic sanctions on Nk if leader Kim agrees to fully abandon his nuclear program. Trump said he’s open to signing an agreement that would end the Korean W but called that “a first step.” “That’s really the beginning. Sounds a little bit strange, but that’s probably the easy part. The hard part remains after that,” he said. Trump is slated to meet with Kim next Tuesday at a luxury hotel in Singapore.

U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT REPORT PAINTS GRIM PICTURE OF RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION
IN NORTH KOREA

(Friday Church News Notes, June 8, 2018, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) -
The following is excerpted from “Report: ‘Praying, Singing Hymns, and Reading the Bible’ Can Lead to Prison Camp,” CNSNews.com, May 30, 2018:
“Weeks before President Trump is expected to meet with Kim Jong Un, a State Department report issued Tuesday painted a grim picture of religious freedom abuses at the hands of the Stalinist regime--including ‘executions, torture, beatings, and arrests’ of people of faith. The report said that some of the up to 120,000 North Koreans being held in prison camps ‘under horrific conditions’ were incarcerated for religious reasons. It cited North Korean defectors and international non-governmental organizations as reporting that ‘any religious activities conducted outside of those that were state-sanctioned, including praying, singing hymns, and reading the Bible, could lead to severe punishment, including imprisonment in political prison camps.’ A South Korean NGO had recorded 1,304 cases of religious freedom violations carried out by North Korean authorities during the year in review, including 119 killings and 87 disappearances. Detentions accounted for another 770 of the incidents. ... ‘An estimated 80,000 to 120,000 political prisoners, some imprisoned for religious reasons, were believed to be held in the political prison camp system in remote areas under horrific conditions.’ It cited a religious freedom advocacy group, Christian Solidarity Worldwide, as saying the regime often applies a policy of ‘guilt by association,’ targeting not just Christians but detaining their relatives as well, irrespective of their own beliefs. The envisaged Trump-Kim summit in Singapore is focused on the crisis over North Korea’s nuclear weapons programs and related security concerns. But rights campaigners are urging the president to put human rights on the agenda too. ... State Department ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom Sam Brownback said, ‘The president is right on point on North Korea. He’s very engaged on this, as you know. The Secretary [of State Mike Pompeo] is very engaged on this. And I think they’re raising all of these issues,’ he said. ... Brownback recalled that during his days in the Senate--he was a Republican senator from Kansas from 1996-2011 before serving as governor of Kansas--he raised concerns about North Korea, ‘but you couldn’t get anybody to act.’ ‘Well, this president is acting and he’s taking this issue on, even though it’s threatened us for years, if not decades.’”

ZUCKERBERG LIED: FACEBOOK NOW A PUBLISHER~FUNDING & RIGGING NEWS WITH A GLOBALIST, LIBERAL, SOCIALIST BIAS

ZUCKERBERG LIED
FACEBOOK NOW A PUBLISHER:
FUNDING & RIGGING NEWS
Just 2 months after Facebook CEO Zuckerberg deflected Congressional criticism by saying Facebook isn’t a publisher, they are about to move from censoring the crowd & promoting fake news to aggressively funding establishment media programming.

FACEBOOK HIRING

“NEWS CREDIBILITY SPECIALISTS”

The war on “fake news” is about to go to an entirely new level

BY Michael Snyder | End Of The American Dream
According to media reports, Facebook has been seeking to hire “news credibility specialists” that will be tasked with “evaluating” which news publishers are “credible” and which are not.
If the goal was just to simply filter out the handful of websites that purposely publish fake news stories, that would be fine. But as we have seen so many times in recent years, these types of programs inevitably discriminate against conservative viewpoints. Facebook is highly liberal, and they will be hiring from a California talent pool that is also highly liberal. And liberals invariably consider liberal viewpoints to be more “credible” than conservative viewpoints. Facebook built an empire by giving everyone a voice, and it is simply not fair for them to try to exclude conservative viewpoints now just because they do not like them.
Hopefully, we can get some answers from Facebook about this. On their official job site, the advertisement for these positions indicated that these “news credibility specialists” would be involved in the creation of “a list of credible news organizations”…
Per a report in Business Insider, as of Thursday, Facebook had two contract positions for “news credibility specialists” open on its job site. The jobs are based out of Menlo Park, California, where the site is headquartered, and one of them lists fluent Spanish as a requirement:
“We’re seeking individuals with a passion for journalism, who believe in Facebook’s mission of making the world more connected,” one of the two listings reads. It continues: “As a member of the team, you’ll be tasked with developing a deep expertise in Facebook’s News Credibility Program. You’ll be conducting investigations against predefined policies.”
Facebook would ask the specialists to help create a list of credible news organizations. That list could be used for various features on the site, from the newsfeed to its advertising system.
So what criteria will be used to determine which news organizations are “credible” and which are not?
In the end, it seems almost inevitable that liberal news organizations will receive more favorable treatment.
The job announcement on Facebook’s official job site is now down, but similar job postings also showed up on LinkedIn…
Similarly worded job postings also appear on LinkedIn, posted by a staffing company on behalf of an unnamed Menlo Park company. (The LinkedIn URLs include the phrase “world’s largest social network,” which is kind of a tipoff it’s Facebook.) Those posts mention that “you’ll be tasked with developing a deep expertise in News Credibility Program and evaluating news publishers for policy compliance.”
And of course Facebook is not the first major social media company to do something like this.
In a recent article, I noted that YouTube made a decision to hire “10,000 new moderators” to “flag content” late last year.
The elite have decided that it is way too dangerous to allow “we the people” to control the narratives, because whoever controls the narratives has an enormous amount of power. This is a point that Caitlin Johnstone made extremely well in one of her recent articles…
The good news about all this is that we know exactly where our shackles are. Our shackles are made of narrative, and the oligarchs’ ability to control it. A populist movement to disrupt establishment narratives and wake people up to what’s going on is all it will take to break our rulers’ ability to control the way the citizens of the world think and vote. From there we can make our own narratives and create a world which benefits us all and not just a few ruling elites. Right now there is a mad rush by those same elites to scale back our ability to network and share information via new media, so one of the most revolutionary things we can do at this time is prevent them from doing so and outpace them in that race.
It isn’t the west versus Russia. It isn’t left versus right. At this time the real conflict in our society is a few ruling elites and their cronies versus humanity’s natural impulse to act in a way that is beneficial to humanity. All we need to do is help that impulse flourish, get out of our oligarchy-imposed brain boxes, and build a new world.
This is why the establishment is in such a rush to take control of the Internet.
They know that our future will be determined on the Internet, because that is “the marketplace” of today.
Just consider the following poll results which found that 45 percent of American teens say that they are online “almost constantly”, and another 44 percent said that they are online “several times a day”…
“The results varied by gender. Fifty percent of girls said they were always online compared with 39 percent of boys.
Teens’ internet presence has been enabled by near-universal adoption of smartphones, with 95 percent having access to a smartphone, according to the survey.”
Please note that the percentage of teens that say that they are online “almost constantly” has nearly doubled since the previous survey that was conducted in 2014 and 2015.
The Internet has essentially become a “matrix” that we are all willingly plugging ourselves into on a continual basis. And this is especially true for our young people. If you want to get a young person really, really angry, just cut off phone and Internet access for a while.
Internet addiction and phone addiction are both very real, and developers admit that software is often designed to be as addictive as possible…
According to tech designers, software is deliberately designed to be “sticky” to affect our brains’ neurotransmitters so users spend more time on devices. In 2017, CBS’ 60 Minutes, aired a segment about this called, “Brain Hacking.” It featured an interview with tech designer, Tristin Harris. Other tech folks have also expressed remorse for their contribution to this.
“I Wake Up In Cold Sweats Thinking, What Did We Bring To The World?” – Tony Fadell, Nest Founder and one of the minds behind the iPod and the iPhone
Recently, Good Morning America aired a segment on a 48-hour experiment featuring 4 kids with unlimited screen time. There’s a reason why a documentary film about Digital Addiction was named Electronic Crack.
Today, the world is more “connected” than ever before, but the amount of time that we actually spend with other real people is at an all-time low.
Perhaps this is one of the reasons why suicide rates in the United States have increased by 30 percent since 1999…
Suicide rates are up by 30 percent across the nation since 1999, federal health officials reported Thursday.
And only about half the people who died by suicide had a known mental health condition, even though depression had been thought to be the major cause of suicide, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.
Our world is changing at a rate that would have been unthinkable 50 years ago, and the Internet is on the cutting edge of that change.
Will these changes result in a glorious new era of liberty and freedom for humanity, or will they result in a high tech dystopian nightmare?
The battle for the Internet is a battle for our future, and it is a battle that we cannot afford to lose.

NEW CALIFORNIA LAW MAY PUNISH PASTORS FOR HELPING PEOPLE LEAVE HOMOSEXUALITY

NEW CALIFORNIA LAW MAY PUNISH PASTORS FOR HELPING PEOPLE LEAVE HOMOSEXUALITY
BY SELWYN DUKE
republished below in full unedited for informational, educational and research purposes:
Could California pastors be charged with a crime for using Christian doctrine to help someone leave homosexuality? This could be the case if a new Golden State bill, AB 2943, becomes law. Making matters worse, some critics claim it could even be used to impede sales of the Bible.
California, 11 other states, and D.C. already ban “reparative therapy” — which seeks to eliminate unwanted same-sex attraction or feelings of “gender” identity — for minors. The new bill, however, applies to adults as well and would prohibit not just therapists but anyone from offering such aid. It’s gold-plated hypocrisy: The same people who allow a physician to help a person “change his sex” (not actually possible), a quality certainly inborn, want to make it a crime to help someone change his sexual feelings — in the thinking that they’re inborn.
Yet AB 2943 goes further still and prohibits efforts to change even behavior. As National Review’sDavid French explains, if, for example, “a sexually active gay man or woman sought counseling not to change their orientation but rather to become celibate, then the services and goods provided in that effort would violate this statute.”
The dire warnings about the bill have been portrayed as conservative scaremongering, but no less a liberal entity than the Los Angeles Times Editorial Board has also sounded the alarm, writing:
The problem is that AB 2943 isn’t a regulation of licensed healthcare professionals. Rather, and oddly, it’s an amendment to a state law, the Consumer Legal Remedies Act, dealing with fraudulent trade in goods and services. It would expand the definition of “unfair or deceptive acts or practices” for which consumers could sue to include “advertising, offering to engage in or engaging in sexual orientation change efforts with an individual.” And it would cover anyone who engaged in that practice.
Would that include churches or other religious groups that sold, advertised or even recommended books that propagated the idea that believers can use prayer to overcome “same-sex attraction”?
… Supporters of the bill scoff at this critique. A fact sheet provided by Assemblyman Evan Low (D-Silicon Valley), the sponsor of AB 2943, asserts that the bill “does not apply to the sale of books or any other kind of goods” and that the Bible “would absolutely not be banned.” Yet the bill itself makes no such declaration. And the existing Consumer Legal Remedies Act clearly applies to the sale of goods such as books, videos and other educational materials — including those sold by churches and other religious groups.
The aforementioned French, a very sober commentator writing at a quite tame publication, also makes the case that the bill would empower the government to ban certain Christian books.
And, for certain — just as with the targeting of Christian businessmen who refuse to be party to faux weddings — some of the bill’s boosters seem to know that the suppression of religious exercise is not an AB 2943 bug, but a feature. Just consider Democrat assemblyman Al Muratsuchi’s proclamation that the faith community must “evolve with the times” (video below).
Muratsuchi also claims that “the science is clear,” but it’s clear he knows nothing about science. He apparently supports “transgender” prescriptions, which involve biological alterations (so-called “gender-reassignment surgery) without proof of a biological problem, all dependent on a diagnoses made based on a psychological phenomenon — feelings.
There’s also no proof of a biological basis for same-sex attraction. In fact, English writer, radical feminist, and self-described lesbian Julie Bindel not only makes this point, she also says that homosexuality can be a choice (and that it certainly was for her — video below).
Homosexual social commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has made a similar case and has pointed out that many people have left homosexuality behind and appear quite happy (video below. Relevant portion begins at 3:30).
And below is a short AB 2943-inspired video of ex-homosexuals providing their testimonials.
In reality, though, the “inborn” argument is a con, completely irrelevant to the morality of a behavior or biological validity of a quality. Cleft lip, Spina bifida, Down syndrome, club foot, Tay-Sachs disease, and other abnormalities make clear that innateness doesn’t equal normality. And is it logical to consider the brain the one organ immune from naturally occurring imperfection? Note that the same psychologists telling us homosexuality is innate also say that psychopaths are born and not made. Now, if some people were born with homicidal instincts, would it be all right for them to commit murder? And if we could alter a psychopathic mindset, would we not do it?
Homosexuality is no different. Whether or not the behavior is immoral and the feelings disordered has nothing to do with the latter’s origin (nature or nurture), as genetics does not determine morality. Saying otherwise is to eliminate morality and replace it with biological determinism, which reduces man to animal. As for changing suboptimal biologically induced phenomena, that is something we often do when possible. So assuming, for argument’s sake, that homosexuality is inborn, why would it be an exception?
But it certainly is treated as one. After all, there are a multitude of deviations from normal sexuality: bestiality, pedophilia, and countless “paraphilias” (noticeably harmful or obsessive fetishes) exist, such as deriving sexual excitement from vomit, being an amputee, drinking blood, being robbed, and stuffed toy animals. Californians can, presumably, still seek therapy to alter the feelings related to these anomalies, so why the special carve-out for homosexuality? Is the Velvet Mafia really just that, a criminal syndicate that you can join but never leave?
Of course, we may wonder how much leftists believe their own sexual-devolution rhetoric. After all, NYC mayor Bill de Blasio’s wife, Chirlane MacCray, has been described by mainstream-media publications as a “former lesbian.” Shouldn’t they emphasize how she must now be “living a lie”? Or are the laws of the sexual devolution just for the little people?

NEW YORK CITY'S MAYOR DE BLASIO: DIVERSITY OVER MERIT AT THE CITY'S BEST SCHOOLS

Mayor de Blasio: Diversity Over Merit

at NYC’s Best Schools

BY SELWYN DUKE
SEE: https://www.thenewamerican.com/culture/education/item/29227-mayor-de-blasio-diversity-over-merit-at-nycs-best-schools; republished below in full unedited for informational, educational and research purposes:
New York City’s best high schools — the “specialized” ones, as they’re known — may not be the best for long. That is, if Mayor Bill de Blasio (shown) has his way, as he wants to dumb down admissions standards to increase “diversity.”
City Journal provides some background:
For decades, admission to New York City’s eight elite “specialized high schools” has been based strictly on a high-stakes test administered to the city’s eighth-graders. The meritocratic premise is simple: regardless of who you are or how much your parents make, if you hit a certain score on the test, you’re guaranteed a place in one of these high schools, all among the best in the United States. But if Mayor Bill de Blasio gets his way, New York will scrap this venerable system for one that is as close to a race-based quota scheme as constitutionally possible.
Progressives criticize the admissions test as an instrument of “segregation” because black and Latino kids are underrepresented among students accepted at schools like Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, and Brooklyn Tech. Indeed, in 2016, Stuyvesant had only 20 black students among a student body of more than 3,000.
So now “the mayor, backed by his new schools chancellor, Richard Carranza, announced that he plans to scrap the entrance test for the eight elite schools and replace it with a system offering admission to the kids in the top 7 percent of every junior school in the city,” the Journal also reports.
Interestingly, Bolshevik Bill (de Blasio honeymooned in Cuba and once raised money for the Marxist Sandinistas) and company aren’t talking about increasing the number of white kids in the elite schools. What’s that, I say? Non-Hispanic whites constitute approximately 40 percent of NYC’s population. Yet, for example, they amount to only 21 percent and 18.54 percent of, respectively, Bronx Science’s and Stuyvesant’s student bodies. (In fairness, with an inordinate number of white teens no doubt attending private school, they represent only 16.16 percent of NYC’s general government-school population).
The group that’s actually “overrepresented” (a leftist propaganda term) is Asian-descent students: Reflecting the elite schools in general, they constitute 73 percent and 62 percent of, respectively, Stuyvesant’s and Bronx Science’s student bodies despite Asians being only 11.8 percent of NYC’s population.
Is this a problem? Bolshevik Bill and his lackeys apparently think so (We should ask: Bill, what exactly is your problem with Asians?). So now they want to dumb down admissions.
Now, I actually attended Bronx Science in the 1980s, and I can tell you that nothing magical occurs there. The school cannot cultivate nonexistent potential, and the kids there are smarter; in fact, it’s still the case that of all the groups of which I’ve ever been a part, Bronx Sci. had the most impressive pool of intellects. But insofar as you stress diversity over merit and make the school “look like the rest of NYC,” as Bolshevik Bill desires, it will begin to perform just like any other Big Apple high school (poorly).
Bolshevik Bill wrote a piece at Chalkbeat in which he complained about the current merit-based system; it’s filled with falsehoods and fallacies. He claims that smart kids are being “locked out” of the city’s most prestigious schools. This is as much of a lie as saying that I got locked out of the ATP Tour because I couldn’t play tennis as well as Roger Federer.
De Blasio calls the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT) a “monumental injustice” that must be scrapped. A Marxist subscribing to equality-of-outcome dogma would think so. This is the same thinking (feelings-disgorgement, really) that gave us the Obama-born qualification standards for air-traffic controllers, where unemployed, scientifically illiterate ex-jocks are favored over those with aviation experience.
Playing the bean counter, Bolshevik Bill laments the racial and ethnic composition of the elite schools and that half their students come from only 21 of the city’s 600 middle schools. He points out that just “14 percent of students at Bronx Science come from the Bronx” and asks, “Can anyone defend this? … Can anyone say this is the America we signed up for?”
I can — and do. I lived within walking distance of Bronx Sci., but I always marveled at the kids who’d commute via public transportation as much as one and a half hours each way to attend; it reflected great dedication.
Specialty schools are just that: special. Their purpose isn’t to draw a student body that looks like the surrounding area, the city at large, some closet communist’s callow conception of fairness, or that looks like anything — except the best. A healthy civilization seeks to cultivate the given people’s gifts, understanding that we all have different roles and paths. It may endeavor to level the playing field, but not the outcome.
Making his case for eliminating the SHSAT, de Blasio also writes, “Some people are good at taking tests, but earn poor grades. Other people struggle with testing, but achieve top grades.” This is relatively meaningless. A great friend who attended Bronx Sci. with me later taught in NYC’s government schools; he’d have told you that most of those schools stink and, in many cases, all that’s required for top-seven-percent status is to show up and stay conscious in class. With social promotion and grade inflation rampant, especially in the inner city, grades are inadequate for comparing students across schools.
The SHSAT, in contrast, is a yardstick the same for all, success at which is a product of both IQ and application. Whether or not it’s a perfect measure is irrelevant — perfection is not a thing of this world.
Bolshevik Bill also claims that poorer kids are disadvantaged if they can’t afford SHSAT preparation, but deceitfully neglects to mention that it can be had at no cost. Moreover, and again reflecting the other elite schools, 45 percent of Bronx Sci. students are already classified as “economically disadvantaged.” How did they ever manage to pass muster?
The obsession with Diversity™ is destructive and foolhardy. As Professor Walter E. Williams has pointed out, there’s no example anywhere, at any time in history, of all groups being represented proportionately in worldly endeavor. In fact, imbalance is the nature-dictated norm. This is why, to provide just one example, Jews are two-tenths of one percent of the world’s population but have been 22 percent of its Nobel Laureate winners.
De Blasio boasts that his reforms will cause “our premier public high schools to start looking like New York City” (whose educational attainment, again, generally stinks), “will raise the bar at the specialized high schools in every way,” and “will make these schools even stronger.” Yeah, we’ve heard that line before.
It was a lie then, too.

COMMENT:

In NYC, the elite schools are:
Stuyvesant High School. ...
Bronx High School Of Science. ...
High School Of American Studies At Lehman College. ...
Staten Island Technical High School. ...
High School For Mathematics, Science And Engineering At City College. ...
Brooklyn Technical High School. ...
Queens High School For The Sciences At York College. ...
The Brooklyn Latin School.
DeBlasio, being a communist, can not abide any institution that trains winners. In his view, the
ideal is the lowest common denominator - no one is allowed to excel. That is why communist
and socialist states have been so successful in improving the well-being of their citizens.
DeBlasio will extinguish the only bright lights in the otherwise failing NYC school system
because, in his mind, they are outliers.

INDIANAPOLIS: TEACHER FIGHTING FOR JOB AFTER REFUSING SCHOOL DISTRICT'S DEMANDS TO CALL STUDENTS BY "TRANSGENDER" NAMES

INDIANAPOLIS: TEACHER FIGHTING FOR JOB AFTER REFUSING SCHOOL DISTRICT'S DEMANDS TO CALL STUDENTS BY "TRANSGENDER" NAMES
SEE: https://christiannews.net/2018/06/06/teacher-fighting-for-job-after-refusing-districts-demands-to-call-students-by-transgender-names/; republished below in full unedited for informational, educational and research purposes, from:
INDIANAPOLIS (USA Today) — A teacher is fighting for his job after he says the district forced him to resign over its so-called transgender student policy.
John Kluge, the former orchestra teacher at Brownsburg High School in Indiana, said the school district’s requirement that teachers call transgender students by their preferred names, rather than those given at birth, goes against his religious beliefs. The requirement, Kluge said, violates his First Amendment rights.
“I’m being compelled to encourage students in what I believe is something that’s a dangerous lifestyle,” he said. “I’m fine to teach students with other beliefs, but the fact that teachers are being compelled to speak a certain way is the scary thing.”
Advocates for the LGBTQ community say that using a person's preferred name is an issue of respect, not religion or politics.
"This is not a request for advocacy," said Sam Brinton, head of advocacy and government affairs for The Trevor Project, a national nonprofit focused on suicide prevention in LGBTQ youth. "This is a request for respect."
Officials with Brownsburg Community Schools declined to comment on the district's transgender student policies. A district representative said that Kluge submitted his resignation before the end of the school year and the administration accepted it.
Kluge, 28, said he only submitted a tentative letter of resignation because the district threatened to fire him with three weeks remaining in the school year. Instead, Kluge handed in a letter of resignation with instructions to not submit the letter until May 29, after the school year ended. On May 25, the last student day at Brownsburg Schools, Kluge said he asked to withdraw the letter.
Instead, Kluge said, he was locked out of the district's email system later that day. Other teachers then told him the district sent out a job posting for a high school orchestra teacher. He had been with the district for four years.
"They’re acting as if I have (resigned), even though I’m pleading, 'no,'" he said. "I'm not dead yet. I still want to work here."
The Indiana Family Institute, a conservative nonprofit that promotes religious liberty and opposes same-sex marriage and abortion, has started a letter writing campaign to support Kluge. The group is urging people to email every member of the Brownsburg school board and ask them to save Kluge's job.
"It appears that the real intolerance at Brownsburg High School lies in the hands of the administration against teachers who hold a sincere faith and a sacrificial love for their students," the form letter reads in part.
The disagreement between Kluge and the district is over a requirement that teachers call transgender students by their preferred name reflecting the gender with which they identify, rather than the name given to them at birth. Students cannot request this change until they have written consent from a parent and doctor, according to an internal document posted online by the Indiana Family Institute.
A representative for Brownsburg Schools confirmed the question-and-answer guidance had been distributed to employees. It is dated Jan. 3.
Once a student receives the required approvals, their name is changed in the district's online record keeping system. At that point, the document says teachers are to refer to students by that name.
Kluge said he was uncomfortable with this, feeling that using the preferred name implied agreement with the student's decision to identify as transgender. Kluge said that even though he doesn't agree with some of his students' decisions, he respects them.
"I really do care for all of my students," he said, "which is why I don’t want to be compelled to speak in such a way that I believe I’ll be encouraging them in something that’s dangerous."
Instead, Kluge said he reached an agreement with school administration that allowed him to call all students — those who identify as transgender and those who do not — by their last name. Kluge said it seemed like a fine compromise. He did not explain to students why he only used last names this past year.
"I wanted to present an environment where I wasn’t going to push one way or the other," he said.
A few months ago, Kluge said he was informed that he would not be allowed to use last names only starting next school year. He said the administration did not say why it was making this change.
Jim Bohrer, pastor at Hope Community Church, said Kluge is a well-liked teacher who always has shown respect to all his students. Bohrer's daughter is in Kluge's orchestra class.
"He treats them all the same," Bohrer said. "He cares deeply. This is not an issue of John excluding anyone. This is purely the administration trying to get rid of John for his convictions."
Bohrer said the name policy is not the only issue community members have with Brownsburg Schools treatment of transgender students. There are also concerns, he said, about transgender students using the bathroom other than the one corresponding to their sex at birth.
"Parents in church have shared concerns about safety issues," Bohrer said.
Under President Obama, the U.S. Department of Education issued guidance to schools that allowed transgender students to use the bathroom of their choice. That guidance was later rescinded under President Trump.
Connie Duvall withdrew her daughter from Brownsburg High School after the ninth-grader saw a student who was born female but identifies as male use the men's restroom. Duvall said she spoke to administrators about her concerns that male students could take advantage of the policy to use the women's restroom but felt she was not taken seriously.
"We totally did not feel our daughter was safe," Duvall said.
Her daughter now attends a private school.
Kluge said he is not ready to leave Brownsburg Schools. He plans to appeal to the school board to keep his job during its next meeting on June 11.
