PARENTS AGAINST COMMON CORE URGE DONALD TRUMP: "RETURN CONTROL OVER EDUCATION OF CHILDREN TO US"

An organization of parent activists, retired teachers, and other professionals from around the nation has released an open letter to President-elect Donald Trump, urging him to do all within his power to return control of education to parents.

Parents Against Common Core, which consists mainly of the heads of state groups that have been fighting for repeal of the controversial standards, writes:

Though primarily parents and not policy experts ourselves, there is no escaping the fact that our individual and group research, writing and lobbying efforts have caused Common Core to be either repealed or modified via law and/or policy all across the nation. It is also an inescapable fact that the majority of our success in opposition grew spontaneously and fully from the interactions with our own children and schools and therefore hold specific and direct experience no mere “policy expert” could possess.

In the letter, which can be signed by others at its website, the parents ask Trump to consider them as the key “forgotten” group in education, and to do all within his power “to see that control over the education of our children is returned to us – PARENTS and GUARDIANS – those best suited to advocate in deference and defense of those being educated at the hands of the taxpayer.”

With a goal of ultimately ending the U.S. Department of Education, the parents’ recommendations to Trump include:

• Scale back and eventually cease the flow of education funding from the federal level to the states
• Scale back and eventually cease the role of writing and dictating education policy from the federal level to the individual states in singularity or in toto
• Scale back and eventually cease provision of grant opportunities from the federal level to the states for any reason, but specifically to cease and prevent support of any federal education policy, but especially related to invasive, ineffective social emotional learning, preschool, and home visiting programs
• Revise and modernize the FERPA law for the specific purpose of protecting individual student privacy rights, including prevention of unauthorized and/or anonymous digital capture of granular data – specifically rescinding the changes to FERPA through the Office of the Federal Register undertaken in 2011, as well as maintaining the wise federal prohibition on a student “unit record” that would link college and workforce data for individuals.
• Transfer funding for and oversight of The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to the states and remove the Common Core requirements for grade level instruction and testing for students receiving Special Education and related services.
• Appointment of a Secretary of Education who is committed to reducing, if not eliminating, the federal footprint in education; who understands the Constitutional role of the federal DOE is non-existent; who will work to eliminate any incentives or requirements supporting Common Core; who understands that Title 1 portability will impose Common Core and other federal strings on private and home schools, completely undermining your key promise of local control; and who is a parents right advocate…

The parents’ recommendations for the post of U.S. Secretary of Education include Dr. Williamson (Bill) Evers; Dr. Larry Arnn, president of Hillsdale College; Dr. Sandra Stotsky, standards writer and professor emerita, University of Arkansas;  Dr. Peg Luksik, Pennsylvania constitutionalist and co-founder of the Center for American Heritage; and Dr. William Jeynes, professor of education at California State University, Long Beach.

As Breitbart News has reported – and the parents especially note – Evers was invited to be a member of Trump’s transition team. A vocal critic of Common Core, Evers is a fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution and served as both an advisor and assistant U.S. Secretary of Education under President George W. Bush. In addition, Evers was named by both former California governors Pete Wilson and Arnold Schwarzenegger to serve on commissions that evaluated and recommended academic standards.

In January of 2015, Evers penned an op-ed for Education Week in which he denounced the Common Core State Standards:

[I]ncreasingly, parents and taxpayers view the public schools as an unresponsive bureaucracy carrying out edicts from distant capitals. Today, we are dealing with a deteriorating situation in a declining institution, namely widespread ineffective instruction in the public schools.

The common core’s designers have taken the existing bureaucracy and increased its centralization and uniformity. By creating the common-core content standards behind closed doors, the authors increased the alienation of the public from schools as institutions worthy of loyalty. The general public had no voice in creating or adopting the common core.

…The common core’s promoters are endeavoring to suppress competitive federalism. The common core’s rules and its curriculum guidance are the governing rules of a cartel. The common core’s promoters and their federal facilitators wanted a cartel that would override competitive federalism and shut down the curriculum alternatives that federalism would allow.

The new common-core-aligned tests, whose development was supported with federal funds, function to police the cartel. All long-lasting cartels must have a mechanism for policing and punishing those seen as shirkers and chiselers, or, in other words, those who want to escape the cartel’s strictures or who want increased flexibility so they can succeed.

The new leadership of the College Board by David Coleman, one of the common core’s chief architects, is being used to corral Catholic schools, other private schools, and home-schooling parents into the cartel. The proponents of the common core have now established a clearinghouse for authorized teaching materials to try to close off any remaining possible avenue of escaping the cartel.

The parents note that in August of 2014, Evers testified to the Ohio House Education Committee: “Competitive federalism encourages innovation, allows movement between jurisdictions that enhances liberty, and permits a better match between policies and voter preferences. Common Core’s national uniformity runs counter to competitive federalism.”

In June, Evers sounded the alarm about California’s radical progressive K-12 curriculum. Writing at the Orange County Register, he observed the new framework “is filled with present-minded paraphrases of the uplifting rhetoric of the Progressives of early 20th-century America.” He noted as well, however, that missing in the curriculum are other facts about the Progressive movement, such as their “devotion to eugenics and their opposition to African Americans getting an academic education.”

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — A mother in Minnesota has filed a federal lawsuit against state and county officials after her teenage son was granted emancipation without her knowledge or consent and was subsequently provided with hormonal treatment to begin a “gender transition” without her approval.

“Last year, without my knowledge or consent, without any court hearings or legal process, without any involvement on my part whatsoever, a legal aid group that gives free services to low income people created a notice of emancipation for my 15-year-old son,” Anmarie Calgaro outlined at a press conference on Wednesday. “Suddenly, my son, without any notice to me, was no longer under my supervision.”

Calgaro was consequently prohibited from receiving any information about her son, who was treated as an adult by the Department of Human Services and provided with public services, including assistance with food, housing and medical services.



“It was then brought to my knowledge that my son had begun receiving hormone replacement treatments from Park Nicollet health services to transition from male to female with medical assistance paying for this,” she said. “I was not consulted or informed about this in any way. I had no way to give or receive any information about my son.”

Calgaro learned that her son was also provided with narcotics as well.

“The news that county agencies and health services providers, the school and other county and state offices were completely bypassing me came as a complete and total shock. Why wasn’t I even notified?” she asked, breaking down in tears.

According to her lawsuit, Calgaro takes issue that the Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid Clinic did not investigate any of Calgaro’s son’s claims about his relationship with his mother before issuing the emancipation. Calgaro says that the assertions her son had made, as reflected in a letter drafted by an attorney with the clinic, were false. She has six other children and is divorced.

Calgaro also believes that the emancipation is invalid as it was not issued by a court.

Earlier this year, Calgaro’s son sought to change his name from male to female, but was rejected by a district court, which noted that Minnesota law requires that the request be made by the parent or guardian. It also outlined that “a legal issue exists as to whether the juvenile petitioner herein has a legal basis to assert emancipation.”

“St. Louis County’s determination that [Calgaro’s son] was eligible for government-paid medical services was the cause of why Park Nicollet and Fairview determined that [Calgaro’s son] was emancipated for the purposes of providing medical services,” the legal complaint outlines.

Calgaro is seeking an injunction against further services being provided to her son, and is requesting that the court order the clinic and others to turn over his records for his mother’s review.

She is also requesting a declaratory judgment “that her due process rights under the U.S. Constitution Due Process Clause were violated by defendants because she has no statutory or common law cause of action to challenge in state court the defendants’ determinations of emancipation without a court order which led to the medical, educational and other services being provided and denial of access to medical, educational and other records without parental consent and without a court order.”

“This is an outrageous abuse of power by multiple agencies,” stated Tom Brejcha, president and chief counsel of the Thomas More Society, which is representing Calgaro in court. “To treat a minor child without either parental consent or a court order of emancipation is a violation of the trust placed upon the human service sector and its governmental oversight agencies. To give a parent no recourse to intervene in this situation is an egregious violation of Constitutional rights.”

What a week! One thing is clearly demonstrated by this election, we are a deeply divided nation. There are two groups, those who produce, and those who take from those who produce. And sadly it appears that we are almost evenly divided.

“A new report on Americans' attitudes toward socialism says that statements of Karl Marx have more support among millennial than what the Bible says about work and people's right to eat. Asked if they agree with what Marx said, "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his need," 64 percent of millennial said, "yes," but only 53 percent said they agree with the statement in the Bible that "if any would not work, neither should he eat," according to a new poll by YouGov and the Washington, D.C.-based Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation.”[1]

We have seen how the Hollywood and entertainment elites are disgusted but how many of them have done what they promised and left America? We’d be better off without them. They believe they are our superiors when the reality is the other way around.

We see now how angry and even violent the liberal progressive left turns out to be. Does anyone remember riots after Obama’s first election in 2008? It has also been reported, that some universities are offering counseling and safe spaces for students emotionally debilitated by the election results. I guess it has incapacitated their professors as well, who had to cancel their classes. One thing is apparent, the Marxists own the urban areas of our country; the more densely populated the more Marxist. Yet, cities are where you find the greatest failures of those Marxist policies. Just consider Detroit, once one the wealthiest cities in the world that is until Marxists were elected and began to give away the wealth of those who worked for it to those who would not work. Today Detroit is the sobering picture of the future of any society that is foolish enough to actually implement that system of government sponsored plunder known as Marxism.

This election tells us that we are in the midst of an ideological war over this question: what is the purpose of civil government? is it a system of legalized plunder where the producers are robbed by those who won’t work, or is it a government which is focused on protecting God given rights which includes property rights.

The Marxist would have us believe that a society is blessed when it promotes and enacts a system of legalized plunder. It is obvious that the plundered in that society are not blessed. And Scripture tells us that not only are the plundered not blessed but even the plunderers themselves are not blessed - for by becoming thieves in a system of legalized plunder they have earned the wrath of God; they are cursed, not blessed.

The key issue is this; what has God our Creator ordained human civil government to do, and what has He also restricted it from doing.

Some time ago I read the excellent book “Toward a Theology of Taxation” and it surveyed everything the Bible says on the subject of taxation. It is interesting to see God’s design in the Hebrew Republic. The civil government is small and does only a few things leaving the other two God ordained institutions, family government and church government, to do all the other significant tasks in society. Thus taxation was very small, everyone paid exactly the same amount regardless of their income or their assets. Now folks will tell us that such a society is impossible, a dream that could never be fulfilled in this world. I find it odd that people make that assertion for it was the case in early America.

When Alexis de Tocqueville visited American in the 1830’s one of the surprises for him was how small and nearly invisible civil government was. What he was witnessing was the blessing of a society where people by and large were self governed ordering their lives by the Word of God, where family government was vibrant, raising godly children who would fulfill their roles as godly contributors to society, where the church government was strong fulfilling all its God ordained duties and therefore civil government wasn’t all that important.

Consider just one example - Exodus 20:15 Thou shalt not steal. If people learn God’s Law and order their own self government accordingly, they will avoid all violations of their neighbor’s God ordained property rights. If the family fulfills its duty of training up disciples of Christ who not only clearly understand the God ordained issue of property rights, they are deeply imbued with a commitment to the protection of everyone’s property rights, not just their own, then the greatest impact will be felt everywhere. Then the Church in turn does its job preaching against every species of violations of property rights in society, thus educating everyone regarding the sacred nature of property rights. Now what job is left to civil government? There will be a few people who slip through the cracks of this full on press to preserve property rights but they will be few and will be such an exception to the overall tenor of society that everyone will despise the thief in their midst, every institution of society will reinforce the sacred value of property rights in how the whole of society responds to the the thief when he is exposed.

In such a system the idea of Marxism would be soundly rejected for all would see it is but a thinly veiled attempt to institutionalize legalized plunder. It would find no foothold at all there for everyone’s thinking and commitment would be to eliminate thievery in all its forms.

To those who would say that such a description is fanciful, impossible, and could never be made to work, I simply reply read what Alexis de Tocqueville wrote after visiting America in the 1830’s. In fact it is amazing to see what he recommends to the Legislator. “It should therefore be the unceasing object of the legislators of democracies and of all the virtuous and enlightened men who live there to raise the souls of their fellow citizens and keep them lifted up towards heaven…If among the opinions of a democratic people any of those pernicious theories exist which tend to inculcate that all perishes with the body, let men by whom such theories are professed be marked as the natural foes of the whole people.”[2] So they should put down Atheism at every turn.

When we ask, Does God’s Word give instructions to a society that desires the greatest blessings? Yes it does and there are two primary instructions: Right Worship and Right Living.

Word of the incident went viral because of a Twitter post that said that a "#trumpsupporter" attacked and threatened patrons and staff at the Starbucks because his coffee took too long and blamed anti-white discrimination.

Obama has boasted on more than one occasion that he calls President Recip Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey for his advice on how to raise his daughters, Malia and Sasha. Obama praised Erdogan and said this: “And I also appreciate the advice he gives me, because he has two daughters that are a little older than mine — they’ve turned out very well, so I’m always interested in his perspective on raising girls.”

Obama has said Erdogan was his “favorite” and “most trusted” ally.

Erdogan has spoken out against contraception, describing it as “treason” when speaking at a wedding ceremony. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said women cannot be treated as equal to men and now Erdogan calls women who work, “half-persons.”

Obama goes to him for advice on raising girls. This is who has been running our country for the last eight years.

Donald Trump appointed Steve Bannon to a senior position, and there is a chorus of condemnation from the media.

In a move which has shocked world politicians, the Muslim majority country proposed exonerating pedophiles en masse.

Hardline president Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government insists that the new law is designed to pardon men who did not realize they were having sex with underage girls.

But critics have reacted with open fury to the legislation, saying it officially legitimizes both deliberate child rape and forced child marriages.

It comes after a shocking rise in violence against women in Turkey, which has risen by 40 per cent in the past decade.

Opposition MP Ozgur Ozel raged: “Sexual abuse is a crime and there is no consent in it. This is what the AKP fails to understand.

“Seeking the consent of a child is something that universal law does not provide for.”

MPs will have a second vote on the new legislation on Tuesday at which point, if the ballot goes the same way, it will be officially passed into Turkish law.

It is estimated that the change in the law would quash the convictions of some 3,000 men accused of assaulting an under-18.

The government says this will happen if their act was committed without “force or threat” and if the aggressor marries the victim with the consent of their family.

The internet is the last frontier of the freedom of speech. It has not been controlled by large media companies or government oversight; nor should it be. Chancellor Merkel seems to believe that she was undone not by her catastrophic migrant policy, but by the fact that its consequences were published online at sites like this (while ignored by institutional media).

This is where totalitarianism starts. Hitler, too, shut down free speech.

This is exactly why the First Amendment was enshrined in our Constitution — because who would decide what’s good and what’s forbidden? Merkel? Obama? We know where Obama stands on this issue. He has long been a foe of our First Amendment rights. But he is history. And I predict Merkel will be, too, in the upcoming elections.

Freedom of speech is the foundation of a free society. Without it, a tyrant can wreak havoc unopposed, while his opponents are silenced.

Putting up with being offended is essential in a pluralistic society in which people differ on basic truths. If a group will not bear being offended without resorting to violence, that group will rule unopposed while everyone else lives in fear, while other groups curtail their activities to appease the violent group. This results in the violent group being able to tyrannize the others.

Speech that is offensive to some must not be curtailed, but protected. If speech that offends a group is outlawed, that group has absolute power, and a free society is destroyed. A group that cannot be criticized cannot be opposed. It can work its will no matter what it is, and no one will be able to say anything to stop it.

Speaking at a joint press conference with outgoing American President Barack Obama on his farewell tour, German Chancellor Angela Merkel made chilling remarks about her views on the need for government to control the internet and slammed anti-Islamization protesters who she accused of hijacking the German spirit for liberty.
German Chancellor Merkel, who is presently deciding whether to run for a historic fourth term on the strength of her pro-migrant policies which have seen her lauded with praise by President Obama, moved to address populism in her joint address.
Calling the surge of interest in right-wing politics a “wave” that “engulfs us,” Ms. Merkel noted the sentiment “seems to come from the United States,” but in an oblique reference to President-Elect Donald Trump said it was an issue she was dealing with in Europe, too. She said:
“Look at the European parliament. There are a lot of people who are looking for simplistic solutions and are preaching simplistic solutions which are very unfriendly policies. We have them here in Europe, too, we have them in Germany too.”
Apparently blaming this rising populism — politics that are popular with voters — on the internet, the German chancellor implied the internet would have to be subject to restrictive censorship laws as were enacted by many European nations to stem the disruptive effect of the printing press. She said:
“Digitization is a disruptive technological force that brings about deep-seated change and transformation in society. Look at the history of the printing press, when this was invented what kind of consequences it had. Or industrialization, what consequences that had.

“Very often, it led to enormous transformational processes within individual societies and it took a while until societies learned to find the right kinds of policies to contain this, to manage and steer this. We live in a period of profound transformation.”

The chancellor also took time to speak out against the populists within her own country, blaming the exporting of manufacturing jobs abroad for discontent about mass migration. Picking up on the slogan for anti-mass migration and counter-Islamization movement PEGIDA ‘Wir Sind Das Volk’ — ‘We Are The People’ — the chancellor said:

“The most important and noble task of politicians these days is to see that each and every person can find his place. But those who purportedly belong to certain groups say ‘we are the people, and not others’.”

The saying has been inherited by PEGIDA from the counter-Communist rule movements in East Germany in the 1980’s. Merkel, a former member of an East German Communist group, said those words as a protest against overbearing government power and had brought joy to her then but not today. She said:

“At the time when we had [this saying] in the GDR [East Germany] when the people stood in the streets and said ‘we are the people’ it filled me with great joy, but the fact these people have hijacked it does not fill me with joy.”

Ms. Merkel’s comments on web censorship may be welcomed by many in the traditional mainstream media, whose grip on news narratives has been weakened by digital news services like Breitbart.

This week Germany’s Zeit newspaper published a piece calling for controls to prevent “a German Donald Trump”, while Britain’s Independent former newspaper website published a list of “fake” news sites which they claimed may have “swayed votes towards Donald Trump”. One of those listed was Breitbart News.
