BERLIN SETS UP NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTY
"SAFE ZONE" TO PROTECT WOMEN
FROM MIGRANT SEX ATTACKS
Cultural enrichment-free safe space will be made available to women who feel “harassed”

Berlin’s New Year’s Eve party
at the Brandenburg Gate will feature a “safe zone” for women to protect
them from rape and sexual assaults by gangs of migrant men.
Women who feel “harassed” will be able
to seek help from a special “safety zone” located on Ebertstrasse which
will be staffed by the German Red Cross.
While organizers will obviously never
acknowledge it, the “safe zone” is blatantly designed to protect women
from sexual assaults by predominantly Muslim migrant men.
Even the far-left BBC admits
that the safe zone is a response to events two years ago in Cologne,
which have since been repeated in other cities, when “Hundreds of women
reported being attacked by gangs of men with migrant backgrounds.”
Shocking footage that later emerged
from the night shows women screaming as they are assaulted, with police
totally overwhelmed and unable to properly respond.
One eyewitness, a hotel security guard who fought off some of the attackers, said police told him the scene resembled a “civil war”.
Some women were pinned down and raped by the migrants, with one victim even being impregnated and later forced to have an abortion.
Despite the unprecedented chaos, the German media failed to report on the attacks for days, with police subsequently “ordered to remove the word “rape” from their initial report.”
Cologne’s pro-refugee Mayor Henriette Reker responded to the incident by trying to absolve Muslim migrants of blame and was derided for suggesting that women prevent further attacks by keeping the men at “arm’s length”.
German Interior Minister Ralf Jaeger also asserted
that conservatives who criticized the wave of migrants flooding into
the country on Internet chat rooms were “just as awful” as the migrants
who sexually molested women.
Despite virtually all of the perpetrators being asylum seekers and men from migrant backgrounds, Germany’s public broadcaster later released a documentary claiming the migrants were wrongly accused and that the real perpetrators were white German men.
Feminist groups also responded by visiting the local refugee center and handing out roses to some of the very same migrants who may have bene involved in the attacks in order to apologize for “xenophobia”.
The following year, hundreds of police
were deployed to the same location as a huge mob of around 650 North
African men showed up in a bid to repeat the attack, prompting leftists
to criticize the police for racially profiling.
Given what happened last year in Cologne, what on earth would possess these idiots to converge in huge mobs yet again? pic.twitter.com/MrxOA7UvMh
According to professor Jörg Baberowski, the attacks were meant to send a message to Europeans that they “cannot protect” their women.
It remains to be seen whether
so-called “safe zones” will be enough to protect women and whether the
media will again attempt to cover up mass sex attacks this time around.
Given this recent history, is it any
wonder that the anti-immigration AfD swept to third place in Germany’s
election earlier this year amidst crumbling approval ratings for
Chancellor Angela Merkel?

The jihadist state of Iran is now recognizing Jerusalem as the
permanent capital of “Palestine.” This is no surprise, as Iran cut all
ties with Israel after the 1967 Six-Day War, has been furiously
advancing Palestinian propaganda, and finances Hamas (despite temporary
political fallouts over Syria), Hizballah, Islamic Jihad and other
jihadist organizations dedicated to obliterating the State of Israel. Ayatollah Khamenei has stated:
The modern-day pharaoh is represented by the US, the
Zionist regime and their accomplices in the region, who seek to create
wars in our region, and this is plotted by the US.
This typifies Palestinian propaganda. The truth is that Khamenei
leaves out important facts: that the entire region was conquered through
bloody jihad, and that Israel has been fighting since its birth in 1948
for its very existence. The Palestinians and surrounding jihadist
states do not accept a Jewish state, period, on any terms.
“Iran votes to declare Jerusalem ‘capital of Palestine'”, by Olivia Beavers, The Hill, December 27, 2017:
Iran declared Jerusalem the “capital of Palestine” on
Wednesday following a parliamentary vote, according to the country’s
semi-official Fars news agency.
Iran’s announcement to recognize the holy city as the “Palestinian
capital forever” comes in direct response to President Trump’s decision
to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
“It comes in response to the recent U.S. decision to recognize
Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in hopes of dealing a blow to Muslims,”
said Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, according to Turkey’s Anadolu news
agency.
The bill reportedly passed easily, with 207 “yes” votes from the 290-member Parliament.
Iran has long been a fierce proponent of a future Palestinian state.
Iran cut relations with Israel, which unified the city under its control
after capturing east Jerusalem in the 1967 Six-Day War.
Trump broke precedent on Dec. 6 when he announced that the U.S. would
recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and begin the process of
moving its embassy there from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
While the White House said that the move doesn’t specify the
boundaries of the Israeli capital, the decision appeared to take sides
in a fight in which both Israelis and Palestinians lay claim to the
eastern side of the city.
The announcement, which largely pleased Israel’s leadership, ignited
protests across the Muslim world, as well as widespread backlash among
other countries, including close allies like the United Kingdom.
Last week, an overwhelming majority of countries voted against the
U.S. in passing a nonbinding resolution at the United Nations that
declared Trump’s Jerusalem decision “null and void.” Thirty-five nations
abstained from the vote……

The Palestinian Authority’s rift with the U.S. is growing
deeper, according to Israeli media outlets. PA President Mahmoud Abbas
president has come to see U.S. President Donald Trump as “a lost cause,”
according to the Times of Israel.
Abbas is unglued and will not be comforted. Why? because America exercised its right to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, in keeping with Jewish history of its land. This naturally does not bode well for Palestinian interests, as their primary goal is to obliterate the Jewish state. The world still has not come to grips with the fact that appeasement of jihadists just does not work. The more they are appeased, the more empowered and emboldened they become.
According to a report aired by Channel 2 news, Abbas was
“not only closing the door, but throwing away the key” on the chance of
any future Palestinian-American relations.
Now the “White House is reportedly looking for a Palestinian liaison other than Abbas.” Congratulations to the White House in attempting to maintain its honor in getting along, but its dream is rather unlikely, unless the PA changes its charter to accept Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.
“Reports: PA President Mahmoud Abbas Instructs Staff to Sever Ties With U.S.”, Breitbart, December 25, 2017:
The Palestinian Authority’s rift with the U.S. is growing deeper, according to Israeli media outlets. PA President Mahmoud Abbas president has come to see U.S. President
Donald Trump as “a lost cause,” according to the Times of Israel. The PA leader reportedly instructed his staff to sever all ties with
US diplomatic officials at every level, including relations between the
Palestinians and American diplomats posted at the U.S. Consulate in East
Jerusalem. The White House is reportedly looking for a Palestinian liaison other than Abbas.
Last week, the Palestinians announced they would not meet with U.S.
Vice President Mike Pence, who was scheduled to arrive in the region.
Pence visited U.S. soldiers posted in Afghanistan instead.
According to a report aired by Channel 2 news, Abbas was “not only
closing the door, but throwing away the key” on the chance of any future
Palestinian-American relations.
A White House official who was interviewed by the Times of Israel
said in response to the Channel 2 report: “Apparently, the outlet that
has reported this hasn’t been paying attention over the past several
months. As we have said over and over again, we will not impose a peace
deal. That is not news. We anticipated a cooling off period and remain
as committed to peace as ever and are working hard on our plan, which we
will present when the time is right.”
The Palestinians, according to Channel 2, have no plans to lift their boycott of the U.S.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has stated that “London is a
beacon of tolerance, acceptance and diversity”, and for that precise
reason an official visit by U.S. President Donald Trump would “not be
welcomed”.
Of course Khan is playing the so-called “diversity” card, which has become synonymous with boosting Islamic supremacists; otherwise, you’re “Islamophobic.” Infidels must remain inferior in this view. Here are some reasons why Khan is shivering in his boots at the thought of anyone actually accepting Donald Trump, and so is fervently resisting Trump’s visit to the UK:
Khan has endorsed anti-Semites, defended 9/11 terrorists, and defended an al Qaeda member.
Khan has played the victimology narrative to the point of cautioning Westerners to play by the rules of Islamic supremacists, so as to not upset them to the point of joining jihadi groups.
Khan has no place being the Mayor of London.
David Kurten, the “elected member of the London assembly who issued the formal questions to Khan questioning his behaviour over Trump,” rightfully slammed Khan, stating that “Sadiq Khan’s latest outburst that President Trump is ‘not welcome’ in London is well beyond his pay grade and flies in the face of courtesy.”
“‘Not Welcome’: London’s Muslim Mayor Repeats Calls to Cancel Trump Visit”, by Oliver JJ Jane, Breitbart, December 26, 2017:
London Mayor Sadiq Khan has stated that “London is a
beacon of tolerance, acceptance and diversity”, and for that precise
reason an official visit by U.S. President Donald Trump would “not be
welcomed”.
Khan made the statement in written responses to questions from a
member of the London Assembly, in which he was asked what he would do to
make President Trump “feel welcome” when the anticipated visit comes in
2018.
Stating he had “previously called on Theresa May to cancel her
ill-judged offer of a state visit to President Trump”, the mayor made
clear he feels a visit by President Trump would be against the
“interests and security of Londoners”. Khan said :”It is clear that any
official visit here would not be welcomed.”
Referring back to recent retweets by President Trump of three videos
purporting to show acts of Muslim violence, Mr. Khan remarked: “Many
Brits who love both America and Americans, as I do, will see recent
comments made by President Trump as hardly in tune with the special
relationship between our two countries.”
Apparently, without irony, the mayor said it was because “London is a
beacon of tolerance, acceptance and diversity” that the visit by
President Trump should not go ahead, remarking that Trump is “completely
incompatible with the values Londoners hold dear”.
While it has not been made clear precisely which security concerns
concern Mr. Khan about a visit from the U.S. president, the Mayor had
earlier in 2017 shrugged off the threat of terrorism as merely being
“part and parcel” of city life. Mayor Khan has also presided over an
astonishing rise of acid attacks in London, which has led to the city
being crowned the acid attack capital of the world.
David Kurten, the elected member of the London assembly who issued
the formal questions to Khan questioning his behaviour over Trump, said
the mayor was exceeding his remit by getting involved in global
politics, when in reality “his job is simply to run London’s transport
network and police, but since he took office he has used his position to
grandstand on international issues as though he were a Head of State.
He is not.”
Slamming Khan’s counterproductive stance towards the United States
and President Trump, Kurten told Breitbart London: “Since Donald Trump
became President, London’s Mayor has become increasingly hostile to one
of the best and most Anglophile Presidents there has ever been. Instead
of building a good relationship and welcoming his offer of putting
Britain at the front of the queue for a trade deal, he has snubbed him
with a series of personal insults.
“Sadiq Khan’s latest outburst that President Trump is ‘not welcome’
in London is well beyond his pay grade and flies in the face of common
courtesy. It is also hypocritical: he is willing to host the ambassadors
of countries which have a travel ban on Israeli citizens at a reception
at City Hall, but hurls insults at President Trump who has highlighted
the horrors of Islamism and wants to protect his own citizens from
violent jihadis…..

Vietnam is launching a cyber army to fight an “information war” against those with the “wrong views” on the Internet in a crackdown on political dissent.
The communist country wants to tighten influence over public opinion and stamp out critics of the government.
“In every hour, minute, and second we must be ready to fight proactively against the wrong views,” said Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia, the deputy head of the military’s political department.
The cyber army, known as Force 47, currently has 10,000 members ready to fight in the Internet’s “information war.”
“The Central Party Committee of the People’s Army of Vietnam has therefore acknowledged that besides the conventional military, which is the core of the national defense task, there should also be forces ready for warfare not only in the ground, sea and air arenas but also in cyberspace and in the universe,” reported Vietnam’s Tuoi Tre News.
Vietnam isn’t alone in this endeavor; the world’s elites have long understood the importance of controlling public opinion to lead the masses into narrow viewpoints that benefit the status quo at the expense of individual thought.
And the best way to keep people enslaved is to convince them that they’re not enslaved; make them believe their “opinions” are simply their own and not what the government wants them to believe.
In this system, there’s no room for heightened consciousness, self-thought or basic human tenants, such as masculinity, that threaten those in power.
“There is a very logical reason why coercive power prefers secrecy and deception: if the goal is to exploit and dominate others (without suffering the natural consequences of doing so), then transparency and honesty are not an option,” wrote Joseph Plummer in his book Tragedy and Hope 101. “As such, the basic template of coercive power (often hidden, always deceptive, and exercised in the name of something other than itself) is common throughout history.”

France has banned a children’s movie from school for not being “secular enough,” despite allowing praying Muslims to block public streets.
French officials said the nativity scene from the film The Christmas Star was “too Christian” to show to children.
“This one was judged not enough secular by the teachers,” reported le Républicain, translated from French. “They had not realized, before organizing the release, that the animated film was about the birth of a certain Jesus.”
“They realized ‘there was a problem of the theme’ being projected and stopped the film, before deciding to repatriate the children to their school, next to Langon.”
In contrast, French officials don’t seem to have a problem with Muslims blocking traffic for full-blown prayer sessions:
They even tried to charge former French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen with “inciting hatred,” a crime in France, for speaking out against the street prayers.
“It is an occupation of part of the territory [of France], suburbs where religious law is applied [by migrants],” she said in 2010. “Sure, there are no armored vehicles, no soldiers, but it is an occupation nonetheless and it weighs on residents.”
France’s history was woven with Christianity, yet officials today have no problem vilifying it in favor of “secularism,” all while giving Islam a free pass.
This doesn’t bode well for France’s future, especially as it faces a tourism collapse.
“The recent wave of terrorist attacks is why so many tourists are shunning Paris, but the terror threat does not explain everything,” said tourism official Valerie Pecresse. “Tourists spend less time in Paris than they do in London. They spend less here.”
“This is because the quality of the services on offer has massively deteriorated.”

In a continuing legal battle between the Trump administration and two illegal alien teenage girls represented by the ACLU, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan ruled on December 18 that the administration couldn’t block the teens, who are in federal custody, from getting taxpayer-funded abortions. The teenagers are being held by authorities because they entered the country illegally. Vice News reported that Chutkan initially also refused to allow the teenagers, called “Jane Poe” and “Jane Roe” in court documents, to immediately get an abortion. However, her ruling would not have taken effect for 24 hours, in order to give the Trump administration time to appeal the decision and continue the court battle, which could continue for days or even weeks. Chutkan subsequently lifted the 24-hour stay, just hours after the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which represents both Poe and Roe, requested an end to it on December 19.
In court filings, reported Vice News, Poe’s lawyers said they approached the Trump administration about their request to remove the stay but hadn’t heard back as of the morning of December 19. “It’s literally a matter of every day counts,” the judge had acknowledged, according to the ACLU’s request.
Roe and Poe are currently being held by the Office of Refugee Resettlement, a program of the Administration for Children and Families, an office within the Department of Health and Human Services. A sponsor has volunteered to take care of Roe, but no one has offered to sponsor Poe.
After Chutkan’s initial ruling on December 18, the Trump administration quickly filed a notice of appeal as well as a request to lengthen the stay in Roe’s case for at least two weeks. While Roe is approximately 10 weeks pregnant, the Trump administration says Poe is 22 weeks pregnant. Lawyers for the Trump administration wrote, “The government has strong and constitutionally legitimate interests in promoting its interest in life, in refusing to facilitate abortion, and in not providing incentives for pregnant minors to illegally cross the border to obtain elective abortions while in federal custody. Those interests would be irreparably undercut if Ms. Roe was granted the relief she seeks.” Brigitte Amiri, a senior staff attorney with the ACLU Reproductive Freedom Project, said in a statement: “We are pleased that these two young women are able to finally get the care they need. But the government’s policy is still in place. These two cases show how the government continues to abuse its power by denying abortion access.”
Scott Lloyd, who assumed the position of director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) in March, had operated under a new policy put into place by the Trump administration that requires him to sign off on all major medical care. Before taking the position at ORR, Lloyd, who is an attorney, worked for the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal and charitable organization that plays a leading role in the pro-life movement.
However, the ACLU is not happy with that policy and asserted in a court document that it “grants ORR a veto power over a minor’s abortion decision, erects numerous hurdles to a minor’s ability to obtain unbiased counseling about pregnancy options and prompt pregnancy dating, regardless of whether they will ultimately decide to terminate or carry to term their pregnancy, and imposes significant hurdles.”
In another twist in these cases, reported Vice News, it was revealed during a December 19 court motion that Roe is not 17 years old, as was previously thought, but 19. Since she is legally an adult, lawyers for the administration pointed out, Roe should be in the custody of the Department of Homeland Security — not the Office of Refugee Resettlement.
A December 18 Politico report observed that since the beginning of this legal battle, government lawyers have also argued that the teens are free to return to their home countries or to seek to be released to the custody of a sponsor, but federal officials should not have to take any action to facilitate an abortion. Of course, since Roe was subsequently found to be an adult, only Poe would require a sponsor. Politico also quoted a spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services, who said:
A pregnant minor who has entered the country illegally has the option to voluntarily depart to her home country or identify a suitable sponsor. HHS-funded facilities that provide temporary shelter and care for unaccompanied alien minors should not become way stations for these children to get taxpayer-facilitated abortions.
That statement makes clear that the government is not, as the ACLU asserts, continuing “to abuse its power by denying abortion access.” The Trump administration is wiling to allow minors to return home or seek sponsorship, where in either circumstance they would be able to make abortion decisions free of government interference. The administration objects only to requiring the taxpayers, many of whom object in conscience to abortion, to pay for these procedures.
A federal judge has ordered President Donald Trump's administration to allow two pregnant immigrant teenagers in US custody to obtain abortions.US District Judge Tanya Chutkan ruled on Monday that the Republican administration can't prevent the 17-year-old girls from exercising their right to an abortion. Both girls, who are 10 and 22 weeks pregnant, arrived in the country as unaccompanied minors and are being held in federal shelters, though it is not known precisely where. The American Civil Liberties Union went to court on behalf of the two girls, as it did in the case of a third 17-year-old girl who was able to obtain an abortion in October following a high-profile court fight. The judge's temporary restraining order marked the latest chapter in a legal dispute with the Trump administration over whether minors who are illegal immigrants have the right to seek an abortion during their detention.Earlier this year, the office in the Health and Human Services Department that oversees the shelters prohibited the two girls from taking steps to facilitate an abortion without its direct approval. One teen is about 10 weeks pregnant, and the other is now about 22 weeks pregnant, Chutkan said. She 'is quickly approaching the limit for abortion in the state where she is being detained,' the ACLU argued in its lawsuit.Lawyers for the government made clear at a court hearing earlier Monday that the administration would not allow her to have an abortion, Chutkan said in her ruling. The administration appealed the judge's ruling as it applied to the teenager who is 10 weeks along. It did not seek to stop the teenager who is about 22 weeks pregnant from having an abortion.Late Monday, an appeals court in Washington said the teenager who is 10 weeks along in her pregnancy must wait at least another day to have an abortion so that the court has more time to consider the case.Scott Lloyd, the head of the HHS office that oversees the shelters, said in an email that facilities under HHS 'should not be supporting abortion services pre or post-release,' but rather 'life-affirming options counseling.'Chutkan said the HHS office continues to claim 'ultimate authority to unilaterally veto the reproductive choices of the unaccompanied minors in its custody.'The federal appeals court in Washington ruled for the third teenager in October, and her abortion took place without the administration asking the Supreme Court to step in.That teenager is being held in Texas, where minors need either their parents' consent or a judge's approval for an abortion. The other two girls are in states where minors don't need consent, the ACLU said, but it has refused to identify the states or say where the teens are from.

The usually non-political, ceremonial Queen Elizabeth reflected on
the jihad attacks in London and Manchester this year, without naming
their perpetrators. She stated in her Christmas speech:
This Christmas, I think of London and Manchester, whose
powerful identities shone through over the past twelve months in the
face of appalling attacks
In June 2016, Queen Elizabeth also uncharacteristically commented
about Brexit, stating that courts that protect jihad preachers
“denigrate” Britain. She asked her dinner guests to give her three good
reasons why the UK should remain inside the European Union (EU).
If the jihad problem played a role in the Queen’s support for Brexit,
then there is a problem, as Prime Minister Theresa May is in sync with
most European leaders. May has shown no leadership, as she continues to
fail Brits in her pandering to Muslims. Britain also currently has over

“Queen’s Christmas Address Reflects on Horrors of Radical Islamic Terrorism in 2017”, by Raheem Kassam, Breitbart, December 25, 2017:
Her Majesty The Queen has delivered her regular Christmas
address to the United Kingdom and her Commonwealth allies, reflecting
on the radical Islamic terrorism that tore through London and Manchester
this year.
Speaking from Buckingham Palace, Her Majesty began by reflecting on
her own past 60 years of delivering speeches to the nation at Christmas,
and the technological advancements she has witnessed since.
Pivoting to the terrorist atrocities of this year, Her Majesty said:
We think of our homes as places of warmth, familiarity and love; of
shared stories and memories, which is perhaps why at this time of year
so many return to where they grew up. There is a timeless simplicity to
the pull of home.
For many, the idea of “home” reaches beyond a physical building – to a home town or city. This Christmas, I think of London and Manchester, whose powerful
identities shone through over the past twelve months in the face of
appalling attacks. In Manchester, those targeted included children who
had gone to see their favourite singer. A few days after the bombing, I
had the privilege of meeting some of the young survivors and their
parents. I describe that hospital visit as a “privilege” because the patients I
met were an example to us all, showing extraordinary bravery and
resilience. Indeed, many of those who survived the attack came together
just days later for a benefit concert. It was a powerful reclaiming of
the ground, and of the city those young people call home. The British Monarch — who has now reigned for 65 years — also made
reference to the Grenfell fire which ripped through a tower block in
West London this year, killing 71 people. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who died and those who
lost so much; and we are indebted to members of the emergency services
who risked their own lives, this past year, saving others. Many of them,
of course, will not be at home today because they are working, to
protect us.
Penultimately, Her Majesty reiterated that her husband Prince Phillip
would be slowing down a bit in terms of public events, as she
approaches her 92nd birthday. Finally, Her Majesty stated of Christmas, and the life of Jesus Christ: Today we celebrate Christmas, which itself is sometimes described as a
festival of the home. Families travel long distances to be together.
Volunteers and charities, as well as many churches, arrange meals for
the homeless and those who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day. We
remember the birth of Jesus Christ whose only sanctuary was a stable in
Bethlehem…..

This is exactly the kind of intimidation that President Trump was standing up to
when he announced the decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. If he
bows to it now, he will undo all the good work he has done in finally showing the
world that intimidation and bullying are not always how to get its way with the
United States.
“Turkish President Erdogan says US must immediately scrap Jerusalem decision,” Agence France-Presse, December 22, 2017 (thanks to Joshua):
Ankara, Turkey: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on
Thursday asked US President Donald Trump to reverse his decision
recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital after a UN vote overwhelming
rejected the move.
Erdogan had earlier called on UN member states not to be swayed by
Trump’s threat to cut funding for countries that backed the motion at
the UN General Assembly. “We welcome with great pleasure the UN General Assembly’s
overwhelming support… We expect the Trump administration to rescind
without further delay its unfortunate decision, whose illegality has
been clearly established,” Erdogan said on Twitter. “I am calling on the whole world: never sell your democratic will in
return for petty dollars,” he had said in a televised speech in Ankara
before the vote.
The US decision on December 6 broke with international consensus and
unleashed protests across the Muslim world, prompting a flurry of
appeals to the United Nations.
At an emergency session Thursday, the UN General Assembly adopted the
motion rejecting Trump’s decision by 128 votes to nine, with 35
abstentions.
The measure was sent to the General Assembly after it was vetoed by
the United States at the Security Council on Monday, though all other 14
council members voted in favour.
Trump warned that Washington would closely watch how nations voted,
suggesting there could even be reprisals for countries that backed the
motion which was put forward by Yemen and Turkey on behalf of Arab and
Muslim countries. Erdogan accused Trump of making “threats”….
Erdogan threatens to wipe out the Jews. The Turkish leader was

In addition, the Turkish Ministry of Justice has issued warrants for
the arrest of two American Turkey specialists, in effect placing a
bounty of $800,000 on their heads.
Additionally, there is the somewhat comical furor in Turkey over the
adoption by Turkish entrepreneurs of the American “Black Friday” sales
concept. Several Turkish businesses, which had attempted to increase
sales by borrowing the U.S. “Black Friday” market lure, were attacked by
devout Muslims who accused store owners of disrespecting Islam’s day of
prayer. The perceived insult to Islam’s Friday Prayer obligation is
just another example of a widening antipathy towards the U.S.
While the misunderstanding by Turks over “Black Friday,” will
likely fade quickly, the diplomatic damage brought on by the early
October arrest by Turkey’s police of a Turkish employee at the U.S.
Consulate in Istanbul allegedly for espionage is likely to be more
long-lasting.
The arrest of the U.S Consulate’s employee precipitated the U.S.
Ambassador’s suspension on October 8, of all non-immigrant U.S. visas
for Turkish citizens. The incident underscores how bilateral relations
have plummeted since Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan first came
to power.
Shortly after Erdogan was elected in 2002, Turkey appeared to
start turning away from its U.S. alliance when it refused to grant
permission for U.S. troops to cross Turkish territory into northern
Iraq. Turkey’s parliament, the Grand National Assembly, voted down the
request. Erdogan seems now to be focusing on regional affairs rather
than on Turkey’s traditional ties to the United States and Europe. Since
Erdogan came to power, Turkey has increased its economic and diplomatic
ties to Arab states.
Turkey’s Erdogan regime also is fashioning a more Islamic Turkey,
a trend especially noticeable in the field of education. As early as
2012, Erdogan hinted at plans to Islamize Turkey’s public schools when
he declared to an audience of young members of his Justice and
Development Party, “We want to raise pious generations.” Since then
Turkey’s schools now include a curriculum which reflects Sunni Islam
doctrine.
After the failed July 15, 2016 coup against Erdogan, he exploited
anti-Western sentiment among the Turks by permitting Turkish media to
publish articles that accused U.S. General John Campbell, former
Commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan, of complicity in the abortive
attempted coup. Suleyman Soylu, the AKP’s Deputy Chairman, also accused
the CIA of being involved. Erdogan further demanded that the U.S.
extradite from Pennsylvania Fethullah Gülen, leader of a Turkish
opposition movement, and the person Erdogan claimed had instigated the
attempted coup.
Post-Cold War regional changes have likely altered Turkey’s view
of its U.S. alliance. Perhaps it now no longer seems indispensable to
Turkish national security officers. Turkey’s Syria policy, for instance,
was initially aligned with other regional Sunni Islamic states against
President Bashar al-Assad’s regime. When Assad’s Iranian allies helped
to sustain the Assad government however, Turkey appeared to turn a blind
eye to Sunni terrorists crossing Turkish territory into Syria. Perhaps
the Turks hoped that these extremists would strengthen the anti-Assad
military forces.
Turkey’s efforts to overthrow the Assad regime in Syria only took
a radical turn when Turkish territory became a virtual pipeline for the
flow of foreign fighters. Thousands of them infiltrated Turkey’s
borders; there, they were met by smugglers and Sunni extremist
facilitators. The facilitators then moved the fighters to safe houses
and gave the jihadists logistical support until the combatants reached
their jihadi destination in the Raqqa region. The combatants included
members of the al-Qaeda affiliated Jabhat al-Nusra Front and the Sunni
Salafist Ahrar al-Sham.
This influx of foreign jihadists seemed to place old allies
Turkey and America in a state of confrontation, as some of these
terrorists remained inside Turkey. The counterproductive cost of
Turkey’s intentional or careless lax border policy struck home with an
attack which left 39 dead on Istanbul’s Reina Night Club.
In March 2017, Turkey began curbing the terrorist networks it had
allowed into its territory. Only then did Turkey decide to cooperate
with U.S. efforts to suppress ISIS. The Turks, however, recoiled at the
Kurdish ethnicity of the U.S.-assisted anti-ISIS Syrian Democratic Force
(SDF).
Turkey is wary of any armed force of Kurds; it evidently fears
that if Syria’s Kurds are able to carve out an autonomous zone for
themselves, it will inflame nationalism among Turkey’s millions of
Kurds. The Turks view ethnic-Kurd fighters in Syria as an extension of
the Kurdish Worker Party (PKK) which has been fighting the Turkish
government for decades. That fear could explain why Turkish troops stood
by while Syrian Kurds fought a harsh battle against Islamic State
troops in Kobane, a Kurdish town in Syria, in late 2014.
The number of instances where Turkey and U.S. interests now
clash, and the accumulated ill will that these disagreements are
begetting, suggests that Turkey is no longer a dependable ally of the
United States.
But what of NATO? Is Turkey a reliable NATO partner? Here the
picture is more mixed. Turkey of late, with the purchase of two
batteries of the Russian S-400 air defense system, appears to have taken
a big step away from the NATO alliance. The Erdogan regime’s nationwide
post-coup purge of civil and military personnel, and its threatening
acts against freedom of speech, such as the mass arrest of journalists,
are eviscerating the country’s independent civil society institutions.
In addition, Turkey’s crackdown on the activities of non-governmental
organizations (NGOs) in Turkey is another sign that Turkey is turning
away from democratic values shared by NATO Alliance members.
Nevertheless, Turkey’s continued membership in NATO has its
advantages for both parties. Turkey has the second largest standing army
in NATO, after the United States. U.S. aircraft are permitted to use
bases in Turkey to mount bombing runs on Mideast-based terrorists.
Turkey’s military complex at Incirlik houses an estimated 90 B61 nuclear
gravity bombs. Should Turkey’s incipient romance with Russia turn sour,
as their historic hostility toward each other might suggest, then
Turkey’s large ground force, forward deployed nuclear devices, and
sophisticated signals intelligence facilities would prove invaluable to
NATO as well as to Turkey. Furthermore, should Iran continue its
regional march to hegemony, Turkey would prove a worthy rival.
Although Turkey under Erdogan may not be a fully committed member
of NATO, Turkey in NATO — at the moment anyhow — is probably still
better than a Turkey out of NATO.

“H.R. McMaster Does It Again: Calls Islamic Terrorism ‘Irreligious,’” by Aaron Klein, Breitbart, December 20, 2017:
NEW YORK — H.R. McMaster, President Trump’s embattled
national security adviser, has once again minimized the religious
motivations of terrorist groups, this time referring to the ideology of
Mideast jihadists as “irreligious.” In a BBC radio interview posted online on Wednesday, McMaster was asked about the U.S. fight to rid the region of the Islamic State. After calling out Iran for “interacting” with Salafi jihadist groups, McMaster continued (emphasis added):
And so what has to happen is a removal of these drivers
of conflict. And that means defeating these jihadist terrorist
organizations so that they can’t come back. That means denying them
control of territory, populations, resources. Drying up their financing.
But then also defeating their wicked ideology to expose their ideology as irreligious and illegitimate. And then it also involves addressing Iran’s destabilizing behavior in the region.
The comments mark the latest time McMaster has downplayed or altogether denied the radical Islamic nature of Islamic terrorism.
In November, after Sayfullo Saipov plowed into a crowd of pedestrians
and bicyclists in Lower Manhattan, killing eight people, McMaster referred to the attack as among a grouping of “mass murderers.”
This despite reports Saipov left behind a note declaring that the attack was perpetuated in the name of the Islamic State. And witnesses heard Saipov shout “Allahu Akbar!,” Arabic for “Allah is great,” during the terrorist assault. IS claimed responsibility for the attack.
One month earlier, McMaster labeled the September 11, 2001, Islamic terrorist attacks “mass murder attacks,” instead of calling them acts of terrorism.
This reporter previously exposed numerous other instances of McMaster minimizing the Islamic motivations of radical Muslim terrorists.
McMaster has reportedly previously petitioned against using the phrase “Islamic terrorism.”
In February, CNN cited
a source inside a National Security Council meeting quoting McMaster as
saying that use of the phrase “radical Islamic terrorism” is unhelpful
in working with allies to fight terrorism.
In May, McMaster spoke
on ABC’s This Week about whether Trump would use the phrase “radical
Islamic terrorism” in a speech that the president was about to give in
Saudi Arabia. “The president will call it whatever he wants to call it,”
McMaster said. “But I think it’s important that, whatever we call it,
we recognize that [extremists] are not religious people. And, in fact,
these enemies of all civilizations, what they want to do is to cloak
their criminal behavior under this false idea of some kind of religious
war.”…
