In connection with the recent research and refutation of Jodi Detrick, representing the position of the Assemblies of God on contemplative proponent Ruth Haley Barton, who has been invited to an upcoming conference, Lighthouse Trails Research has made a printable PDF of that same refutation. This is their statement:
"Yesterday, we sent you a special report regarding the issue of Ruth Haley Barton being a featured speaker at the General Council conference of the Assemblies of God this summer. We are greatful that we heard from several of our readers who expressed their own concerns about what is taking place within the church today.
We realize that we send out a tremendous amount of information week after week, month after month, and year after year. We know it must often feel overwhelming and insurmountable. But we have a deep concern that our report yesterday will slip into the background and soon be forgotten. We want to do our part to help this not happen because we believe that report is one of the most important we have ever written.
As we stated yesterday, this issue is not just about one denomination (Assemblies of God). On the contrary, as we have documented for eleven years now, just about every evangelical/Protestant denomination has been affected by contemplative/emerging spirituality: Nazarene, Mennonite, Southern Baptist, Wesleyan, Calvary Chapel, Reformed, Calvinist, Free Evangelical, and so forth.
If you know a pastor, church leader, or teacher, (or some one in ministry) who is attracted to Spiritual Formation (i.e., contemplative spirituality), please print a copy of our report and give it to him or her. In order to make that a little easier, we have created a printable PDF document of the report.
What's so important about this report is that it irrefutably shows that contemplative prayer is, in fact, the equivalent to Eastern mysticism and is of an occult nature.
PDF of Report (printable)
Sincerely,
The Editors at Lighthouse Trails
P.S. We are soon going to make a booklet out of the report, which will be revised for the evangelical/Protestant church at large."
