MOUNTAIN OF EVIDENCE: WHAT ARE BILL JOHNSON'S HERESIES?

WHAT ARE BILL JOHNSON'S HERESIES?
BY BRANDON HINES
SEE: http://pulpitandpen.org/2016/11/14/what-are-bill-johnsons-heresies/republished below in full unedited for informational, educational, and research purposes:

In the past few weeks, Bill Johnson has been the center of a lot of controversy. With Montanist apologists like Michael Brown defending his errors and whitewashing his heresies and others falling prey to his exploitation, the fact that he is a heretic at all is being questioned. Bill Johnson seriously needs to be tested against the Scripture.
Kenosis
The Kenosis heresy teaches that Jesus set aside His divinity while on Earth. According to this doctrine, Jesus was no longer divine from His birth to His ascension. Bill Johnson has promoted this heresy in Face to Face with God on page 108. He said,
“Jesus set aside His divinity, choosing instead to live as a man completely dependent on God.”
Truth is, if Jesus set aside His divinity and became a man, Jesus would have been nothing more than a man. This is not the only time that Johnson promoted Kenosis. In chapter 7 of When Heaven Meets Earth, Johnson claimed,
“[Jesus] laid His divinity aside as He sought to fulfill the assignment given to Him by the Father.”
To claim that Jesus put His divinity aside while on Earth brings another Gospel. If Jesus was not divine when He died on the Cross, then He would not have been a sufficient sacrifice. In that case His death would be in vain and so would our faith. Instead, Jesus is treated like God while He is on Earth. He received worship (John 20:28Matthew 2:2Matthew 14:33Matthew 28:9), claimed to be God (John 5:18John 8:24John 8:58), and did things only God could do all while on Earth (Matthew 9:2Mark 2:51 Peter 2:22).
Osteenism
Johnson has also taught the false gospel of Osteenism, more commonly called the Prosperity Gospel. The Prosperity Gospel teaches that health, wealth, and prosperity are promises of salvation or obedience. In a 2013 article entitled Courage to Leave a Legacy, Johnson wrote,
“Our connection with God is obviously the source of all blessing, prosperity and goodness in our lives. We make our way prosperous through obedience because when we do what He asks us to do, we strengthen our connection with the source of life.”
I would remind Bill that the most obedient person of the Bible was a poor carpenter who was brutally crucified, and someone who was called the greatest person born of a normal birth (Matthew 11:11) was a nomad who lived in the desert, wore camel hair for clothing, ate locusts and honey, and had his head cut off for his obedience.
Throughout the Bible, we see James get beheaded, Stephen get stoned, and the number of people who have gotten sick appear to pile up: Timothy, Epaphroditus, Trophimus, and even possibly Paul himself. However, that does not stop Johnson from saying Jesus died for our physical healing. In an article entitled Is It Always God’s Will to Heal Someone?Johnson claims,
“When He bore stripes in His body He made a payment for our miracle.”

Retanism
There is another false teaching out there pushed by people such as Kenneth Copeland and Joyce Meyer that teaches that Jesus was born again. I called this teaching “Retanism”, and if it was a civil crime to preach it then Bill Johnson would be found guilty. In one sermon (Which has been reviewed on Chris Rosebrough’s Fighting for the Faith), Johnson can be quoted as saying,
“So [Jesus] was born through Mary, the Virgin, and then he was born again in the resurrection.”
Jesus was not born again because He did not need to be Born Again. He did not have a sinful nature and He, though tempted, did not desire to rebel against God. He was not dead in trespasses and sins, so He did not need to be made alive. However, Bill Johnson says Jesus was born again in many places, including this video, where he asks,
“Did you know that Jesus was born again?”
Kenyonism
The Kenyonist heresy, which is more commonly known as the Word of Faith heresy, states that our words have supernatural power akin to that of God when He spoke the world into existence. It states that just like God created with His words, we can create things with our words. In this video(Time: 59:48), Johnson teaches people how to do faith healing (Something that never had to be taught to those who could do it in the Bible). He says,
“As you’re praying over them, command now the spirit of affliction, ‘Loose that hip, in Jesus’ name.’ Command that God just speak health into that hip. Some actually need a creative miracle. There’s degenerative condition in the joint. So the worlds were made when God spoke them into being, so speak to that new hip.”
This heresy not only elevates man but actually leads to a lower view of God. We do not have the power to speak things into existence.
Montanism
Bill Johnson preaches the heresy of the Montanists, which is that prophecy is still being given and the canon of Scripture is either incomplete or insufficient. Johnson often claims prophecy in visions. In one article on his site, he teaches people how to receive prophecy (Note: The prophets never had to be taught how to receive prophecy). He instructs readers,
“Ask Him specifically to minister to you in the night through visions and dreams. Once you have a dream or vision, write it out, and ask Him for understanding.”
In this YouTube video, the Montanism that Johnson teaches is taken to its logical conclusion. He says,
“It’s difficult to expect the same fruit of the early church when we value a book they didn’t have more than the Holy Spirit they did have. It’s not Father, Son and Holy Bible.”
To claim the Early Church did not have the Bible is almost as false as this diminishing of the authority of Scripture is blasphemous. And yet this is the low view of Scripture that Montanism leads to. He even goes as far as to teach that all Christians have the ability to prophesy. In a sermon clip entitled “All Must Prophesy”, he said,
“All of the people of God [are] carrying prophetic anointing.”
The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 12:29 (ESV), “Are all prophets?” and in the Greek the language implies “No”.
Conclusion
Bill Johnson is a dangerous false teacher. No matter how many times his heresies are whitewashed, they will still stand and he will still be guilty of them unless he repents. One may say that they are simply doing Christianity different than the rest of us, but I would argue that Nadab and Abihu were only doing Judaism different from the Israelites, and, “fire came out from before the Lord and consumed them.” (Leviticus 10:2, ESV).
Avoid Bethel at all costs. They teach a false gospel and a false Jesus and a false view of Scripture. They offer up unauthorized fire. They are to be rebuked and separated from, not endorsed, commended, whitewashed, and visited.

THE SBC IN THE LONE STAR STATE:
TEXAS HAS TWO GAY WHORE HOUSES IN IT, (BUT THEY CALL THEMSELVES "CHURCHES")
BY BUD AHLHEIM
SEE: http://pulpitandpen.org/2016/11/16/the-sbc-in-the-lone-star-state-texas-has-two-gay-whorehouses-in-it-but-they-call-themselves-churches/republished below in full unedited for informational, educational, and research purposes:
Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; (1 Timothy 1:9-10 KJV)
While the error of the KJV-only stance is evident to the Biblically astute, it is often helpful to read this translation to get a more vivid flavor of the English translation of God’s Word. So, in reading Paul’s first letter to Timothy, we find the Apostle’s words translated in the vernacular of the king’s English with a particular vigor and poignancy that more modern versions may seem to lack. It’s just that often blunt phraseology that sometimes helps drive home the Scripture’s meaning. Such is the case here.
In the ESV, the apostle’s words above seem to somehow lack the same bold levity, though they are no less foreboding in their meaning.
understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine; (1 Timothy 1: 9-10 ESV)
While “whoremongers” from the KJV certainly carries a weightier tone than the ESV’s “sexually immoral,” the latter translation allows for “those who defile themselves with mankind” to be more easily understood by modern ears with its use of the phrase “men who practice homosexuality.”
logo-2But for two Southern Baptist Churches in Texas, it doesn’t matter what translation of Scripture is used. They’re going to disregard what it says anyway.
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,  nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.  (1 Corinthians 6:9)
According to two news reports (HERE and HERE) Wilshire Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas and First Baptist Church of Aulogostin, Texas are facing removal from the Baptist General Convention of Texas for their culturally tolerant, though Scripture-defying, affirming stance on the LGBT issue. Each church publicly affirms their acceptance of openly LGBT members.
In a warning letter to Wilshire’s Pastor George Mason, the 5,000 church strong Baptist General Convention of Texas advised that “should your church choose to publicly affirm same-sex sexual behavior, the BCGT will no longer be able to accept funds from the church, seat its messengers to the annual meeting, allow the church to express affiliation with the BGCT, or allow its members to serve on the BGCT boards, committees, or other roles.”
The Convention issued a statement that clarifies its position in dealing with these two churches.
“This is a painful time for Texas Baptists. We have deep respect and appreciation for the churches involved. While Texas Baptists are loving, respectful and welcoming to all people, we have a longstanding and often reaffirmed biblical position on human sexuality.”
wbc
wbcWilshire Baptist recently passed, with 61% approval, a resolution that elucidated its LGBT-affirming position for membership, leadership, and participation in baptism and weddings. In response to the state convention’s warning that it “did not want Wilshire’s support,” Pastor Mason seemed to wave the big stick of money. “The BGCT appears to care more about institutional survival than missional partnerships,” he said. He and the Convention Executive Director had been in conversation about “ways the church might continue to support BGCT missions causes and work together on matters of shared concern.” (Source)
Hopefully, with regards to Wilshire, the State Convention will find the loss of Wilshire’s coins in the coffer to be irrelevant to the need to adhere strictly to the clear teaching of Scripture.
First Baptist Church of Austin responded to the BGCT warning first by claiming “as a church, we did our diligent theological work, being guided by the Spirit” and came to a conclusion that “we are proudly and openly welcoming and affirming of all God’s beloved children.”
Of course, the obvious error in this lofty-toned congregational soul searching is the pesky little truth that the Holy Spirit never disavows what He has previously avowed in His Word. What was sin in the first century has not suddenly become a “good work” in the twenty-first.
The Austin church’s letter then struck back at the BGCT accusing it of being guided by blind, money-motivated power. “From our perspective, the current model of discernment being used by the leadership of Texas Baptists is based on money and influence…”
fba
fbaOn their website, First Austin’s senior pastor Griff Martin doubled down on his congregation’s willful intent to disregard what Scripture teaches. “We want to take a stand for both LGBTQ full inclusion in the church and the historic Baptist distinctive of church freedom. This is who we are and we are proud of our stances.” Of course, in complete disregard for the words of the Apostle Paul to Timothy to “avoid such people,” (2 Timothy 3:5), this pastor and this church are “proud” of their defiance to Scripture.
Perhaps it’s not spurious to suggest that, as with the churches addressed by our Lord in John’s Revelation, they too seemed to exhibit the same “we’ll do what we want the way we want” attitude.  But He commanded them to repent or risk the removal of His presence from their midst.
To the church in Thyatira, as the pastors and leaders of these Texas churches would do well to consider, the Lord said,
I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.  I gave her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her sexual immorality.  Behold, I will throw her onto a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her I will throw into great tribulation, unless they repent of her works,  and I will strike her children dead. And all the churches will know that I am he who searches mind and heart, and I will give to each of you according to your works. (Revelation 2:20 – 23)
But the BGCT seems to be standing firm. “The BGCT had to make a decision based on principle and precedent, in light of the positions adopted by messengers to the annual meeting and actions taken by the Executive Board.”   The convention’s executive director, David Hardage, stated that, “I believe a church can be welcoming but not affirming. I believe that it is not only possible, but also biblical.”
The sad, though Biblically forewarned, reality of Texas will become more pernicious. For those who aren’t merely “Christian” in name only, we can expect, as Paul warned Timothy in his final letter to the young minister, “that in the last days there will come times of difficulty.” (2 Timothy 3:1) The reason for this “difficulty?”
“For people will be lovers of self,  lovers of money, proud,  arrogant, abusive,  disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal,  not loving good, treacherous, reckless,  swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.” 2 Timothy 2:2-5.
Add to that list of spiraling depravity Paul wrote about to Timothy the evident “giving them up” judgment of God that he describes in Romans, a judgment that is most vividly seen in the removal of His restraining mercy and permitting them to pursue deviant, unnatural sexual passions.
For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.  (Romans 1:26-27)
The imperative for the authentic believer is clear. To stand with God means to stand in obedience to all things He teaches in His Word. In the United States, where the culture is poised and ready to demand a relaxed, tolerant, modern interpretation of a “living” Constitution – one that changes with the times –  the Bible-obedient believer does not have, or need, that luxury with the Holy Writ that directs our faith. The Bible’s truth claims are immutable because its Author is immutable.
With Paul, we must be able to say, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
For a couple of churches in Texas, that claim is clearly one they’ll not be able to make. But they won’t mind … it comes from Scripture … and they clearly have no regard for that.
Pray that these churches repent or else face the loss of obedient, true believers who should rightly avoid them. More eternally worrisome for these churches, though, is the loss of His presence.  They may have “the appearance of godliness” but, without repentant obedience to the truth of Christ in His Word, they are “denying its power” and thus are not, in fact, faithful churches of our Lord.  They are selling a false, damning, “other” gospel that may bring the praise of some men, but is sure to command the eternal wrath of God.

JERRY FALWELL JR. LOOKING TO BE REPAID FOR HIS TRUMP CAMPAIGNING WITH A POSITION IN THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

JERRY FALWELL JR. LOOKING TO BE REPAID FOR HIS TRUMP CAMPAIGNING
SEE: http://pulpitandpen.org/2016/11/17/jerry-falwell-jr-looking-to-be-repaid-for-his-donald-trump-campaigning/republished below in full unedited for informational, educational, and research purposes:

Jerry Falwell, president of the flagship Southern Baptist university, Liberty University, and one of Donald Trump’s loudest evangelical supporters, is now seeking repayment for all of his efforts in helping Trump land the job of the nation’s leader. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that Falwell has expressed interest in serving a prominent role in the Education Department under Trump. In an interview last Tuesday, Falwell said,
I let them know one of my passions is reforming higher education and education in general, I told them I’d be willing — I have a lot of responsibilities here — but I’d be willing to serve in some capacity that sort of brings education back to some form of sanity.
Jerry Falwell spent the better part of the last year preceding the election campaigning on Donald Trump’s behalf. In opposition to many other evangelical leaders, like Russell Moore who spent his time campaigning against Trump, Falwell endorsed Trump, stating he was “a successful executive and entrepreneur, a wonderful father and a man who I believe can lead our country to greatness again.” Falwell even went as far as to declare Donald Trump a born-again Christian.
It is truly an honor to receive Jerry’s endorsement. Not only is he a high-quality person, with a wonderful family, whom I have great respect for — I also consider him a very good friend and his support means so much to me,
Trump said in a statement to the Washington Post.
Falwell, now, is holding Donald Trump to the line, when he along with several other evangelical leaders agreed to Work for Trump if he became president in a closed meeting back in June. Charisma News reports James Dobson as saying,
There are about 25 of us that include Jerry Falwell, Jr., Robert Jeffress, Jack Graham, Ben Carson, James Robison, Michele Bachmann, and many others whom you would probably know. We’ve all agreed to serve. How will that play out if Trump becomes president? I don’t know. It is a good start, I would think.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch also reports that Falwell wants to repeal the Johnson Amendment that prohibits tax-exempt organizations like churches from endorsing political candidates, and he supports a “voucher” system that enables poor and underprivileged children to attend private schools at reduced rates or no cost at all.
In a lashing-out against those who disagree with him, he says,
The vast majority voted for Trump because they wanted change. They’ve been betrayed by career politicians, by establishment Republicans so many times — they just don’t trust them anymore — and they just wanted something different and didn’t want to go with Clinton. I knew on the other side you had the Pharisees, you know, the real judgmental Christians who were never going to support him, but I really felt like they were outnumbered.
Of course, the “Pharisees” and “judgmental Christians” Falwell is referring to is Russell Moore and his followers who viciously campaigned against Donald Trump on the basis of character flaws and his closed-border policies, incorrectly stating “that Ted Cruz is leading in the ‘Jerry Falwell’ wing, Marco Rubio is leading the ‘Billy Graham’ wing and Trump is leading the ‘Jimmy Swaggart’ wing…” Turns out, Trump was leading the “Falwell wing” after all. In response to Moore’s unceasing vitriol against him, Trump tweeted that “Russell Moore is truly a terrible representative of Evangelicals and all of the good they stand for. A nasty guy with no heart!”
So Jerry Falwell Jr.’s guy is in, and now it’s payday.

“We should understand the Constitution as the founders meant that it should be understood. We can do this by reading their words about it, such as those contained in the Federalist Papers. Such understanding is essential if we are to preserve what God has given us.” —Ezra Taft Benson
“We may be tossed upon an ocean where we can see no land – not, perhaps, the sun or stars. But there is a chart and a compass for us to study, to consult, and to obey. The chart is the Constitution.” —Daniel Webster at an address at Springfield Massachusetts on 29 September 1847
President Trump Listens to Us
Am I pleased with our President-elect’s choices so far? Yes, I am. Like Trump, none of them are perfect, but they will do a wonderful job for our new President. Even if there are areas in these men’s political lives that are not perfect, we now have a president who will listen to the American people. He has heard us in the past.
We told Mr. Trump that common core was rotting the minds of the students and destroying the teaching profession, and the government schools have eliminated academic teaching. Trump knows, and common core is on the way out. More than that needs to go as well.
Long ago, Trump was pro-choice, thought it was a woman’s right, but then he watched a video of an abortion, and that was the catalyst that brought him to the saving knowledge that it is an evil that needs to be eliminated. The gestating baby is a human being that is separate from the mother, and as such should have the right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
When Mr. Trump was first questioned about the land in the Western states being held by the Feds, he thought it was okay. Then he got some flak from the American citizens who know what is going on. He sent his son to investigate, and then Trump wrote an article about it in the Reno Gazette Journal, Trump: Nevada, US Needs a President Who Obeys the Law. Listen to this three-minute video on same.
I do not know of any politician, much less a president of the United States who has listened to the people like Donald J. Trump. This is why I have hope.
There are two areas I’m deeply concerned about; the main one is education, because I do not believe he is getting the advice he needs to make proper choices in personnel. The names I’ve heard are the enemies of education, and are extremely troubling, but more about that in another article.
The other area that deeply concerns me is Veteran Affairs. We need a veteran to take on the problems in this arena. It would also be wise to have a veteran who has been through the VA system and knows what needs to be done to implement our President’s agenda.
The choices of our 45th president are, so far, absolutely brilliant. He is choosing the cream of the crop, and those who will follow through with the policies and plans our new President has to Make America Great Again.
Lt. General Michael T. Flynn
General Flynn has accepted the position of National Security Advisor. I am so pleased to know he will be helping our new President. This is a man of great character and intellect who is absolutely perfect for the position. I cannot express how absolutely delighted I am at this appointment.
If you wish to know all about General Flynn, pick up a copy of his bestselling book, The Field of Fight. It is 180 pages long with an index and is a quick read. His book offers a plan that combines creative, imaginative, and strategic solutions with political engagement and effective military action…a plan to win.
Congratulations to General Flynn!
Senator Jeff Sessions
For two decades, Jeff Sessions has been the junior senator from Alabama. He is beloved by his constituents.
Senator Sessions chaired Trump’s National Security Advisory committee. ‘‘The president-elect has been unbelievably impressed with Senator Sessions and his phenomenal record as Alabama’s attorney general and U.S. attorney,’’ a Trump transition statement released Thursday read. ‘‘It is no wonder the people of Alabama re-elected him without opposition.’’
Sessions has opposed nearly every immigration bill that has come before the Senate the past two decades that has included a path to citizenship for immigrants in the country illegally.
He’s also fought legal immigration, including guest worker programs for illegal immigrants and visa programs for foreign workers in science, math and high-tech. In 2007, Sessions got a bill passed which essentially banned, for 10 years, federal contractors who hire illegal immigrants.
‘Legal immigration is the primary source of low-wage immigration into the United States,’’ Sessions argued in a 2015 Washington Post op-ed. ‘‘... What we need now is immigration moderation: slowing the pace of new arrivals so that wages can rise, welfare rolls can shrink, and the forces of assimilation can knit us all more closely together.’’ [Link]
He's also a debt and military hawk, and a full-fledged climate change skeptic!
I have always favored Senator Sessions because of his stance on trade, and especially on the horrible Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP). He was also against fast tracking of TPP which many senators voted for, including Sen. Cruz. Fast tracking actually gave away Congress’s control to the President for six years. Fast-track, or trade promotion authority (TPA), allowed the White House to send trade deals to Congress for up-or-down votes. The Senate would not be able to filibuster them, and lawmakers would not have the power to amend them.
The expedited process, which lasts until 2018, and can be extended until 2021, greatly increased Obama’s chances of concluding negotiations on the TPP, which was a top goal of his. Thankfully, it has not passed.
Senator Sessions has not always voted the way I would have liked, but he is strong on the rule of law, and strong on protecting America. This is an honorable and good man, and I pray the Senate endorses his nomination.
Congressman Mike Pompeo
President elect Trump has nominated Congressman Mike Pompeo for head of the CIA. I’m impressed with Pompeo’s strong stance for law and order, not to mention his ability to staunch pro-terrorism activities in local mosques. [Link] Mike Pompeo, a conservative Republican congressman from Kansas, has heavily criticized the Iran deal, and was a member of the congressional committee that blasted Hillary Clinton over the attack in Benghazi, Libya. Watch his questioning of Hillary on Benghazi. Pompeo would be a huge improvement over John Brennan.
Pompeo is a member of the House intelligence committee, which oversees U.S. intelligence gathering efforts. In 2014, he was appointed to the House Select Benghazi Committee to probe the 2011 attack on the U.S. diplomatic outpost in Benghazi.
Pompeo certainly has the knowledge and skills to run the CIA. More than that he has the guts to make a tough call, something the CIA has been unwilling to do since early in the George W. Bush administration. So far, so good, but…
Unfortunately, here’s what Mike Pompeo had to say about Edward Snowden: “[He] should be brought back from Russia and given due process, and I think the proper outcome would be that he would be given a death sentence.” (Washington Examiner, 2/11/16). I am in total disagreement with Pompeo and Trump’s stances on Edward Snowden. To most Americans, Snowden is a hero.
Rep. Pompeo is also a heavy supporter of the NSA’s surveillance programs: “Congress should pass a law re-establishing collection of all metadata, and combining it with publicly available financial and lifestyle information into a comprehensive, searchable database. Legal and bureaucratic impediments to surveillance should be removed.” (The Atlantic, 11/18/16). Sorry Mike and President elect Trump, this is totally unconstitutional and I fully disagree with you.

NEWTOWN, Conn – -(Ammoland.com)- President-elect Donald Trump will nominate Alabama U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions as attorney general, several news sources are reporting today.
Sessions was the first senator to endorse Trump and served as a trusted adviser during the campaign.
Prior to the Senate, Sessions served as Alabama attorney general in the mid-1990s and was the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Alabama during the Reagan administration.
The attorney general’s position is arguably the most important of the cabinet positions with regard to the firearms industry.

His A+ rating from the NRA validates Sessions’ strongly pro-gun record as an elected official.

Trump Taps Jeff Sessions for AG,

Rep. Pompeo for CIA Chief

Donald Trump has reportedly made his picks for key Cabinet and administration roles, including Sen. Jeff Sessions for attorney general, Rep. Mike Pompeo for CIA director and retired Gen. Mike Flyn for national security adviser.
That’s according to Bloomberg News and the New York Times, newspapers that both reported Trump’s team was due to make a formal announcement in the coming hours.
From Bloomberg:
“President-elect Donald Trump has settled on Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions for attorney general, according to two people familiar with the matter.
“It wasn’t immediately clear if Trump has formally offered the job to Sessions, a lawyer who was an early and ardent Trump backer, but the people familiar said Trump wants Sessions in the role.
“A Trump aide on Thursday night called Texas Senator Ted Cruz, a one-time Trump rival who was under serious consideration for the role, to tell him the job was instead going to Sessions, one of the people familiar said. The people asked not to be named because the decision has not yet been made public.”
Pompeo serves on the House Intelligence Committee.

Pompeo
Rep. Mike Pompeo

From Breitbart:
“Rep. Mike Pompeo has been selected by Trump as CIA director and retired General Mike Flynn has been selected as his national security adviser.
“[Pompeo’s] popular with the national security hawks in Washington as he supports restoring the intelligence community’s ability to collect bulk metadata. He is also a firm opponent of the Iran Deal and served on the House special committee to investigate the Benghazi attacks.”
The New York Times offered a bit of background about Sessions, as well as confirmed his looming formal appointment to the attorney general spot.
The newspaper said:
“Mr. Sessions, a former prosecutor elected to the Senate in 1996, serves on the Judiciary Committee and has opposed immigration reform as well as bipartisan proposals to cut mandatory minimum prison sentences.”
That last was a pet project of President Obama, who made it his personal goal to issue mandatory jail sentence reductions to certain criminals currently behind bars.
Sen. Ted Cruz had been talked about as a likely candidate for the lead Justice Department spot. But Bloomberg reported Friday that the Texas senator was told by Trump team members the job had gone to Sessions instead.
The Washington Post reported more:
“Sessions’s offer was finalized Thursday and the senator has been working with staff to lay the groundwork for an official announcement, said one person close to the transition, who requested anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.
“Two people who have spoken directly with Trump officials said Pompeo had been offered and has accepted the job of CIA director. They also asked for anonymity because they are not authorized to speak publicly about the process. …
“Sessions, 69, was Trump’s first endorser in the Senate and quickly became the then-candidate’s chief resource on policy.
