Earlier this week, I issued a statement expressing my complete support for Clinton and Centre counties to enact a Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance to protect law-abiding 76th District residents against unconstitutional gun control laws imposed in Harrisburg or Washington, D.C.

Some of the “unlawful acts” nullified by this Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance would include Red Flag Gun Confiscation orders, taxation of firearms and ammunition; registration or tracking of guns or gun owners; and any bans or restrictions on legally purchased firearms, ammunition or accessories.

Additionally, this ordinance would prohibit the use of county funds in the enforcement of the defined “unlawful acts.”

I look forward to working with my sheriffs, commissioners and if need be supervisors across the 76th District to get this job done and safeguard our sacred right to bear arms.

On Tuesday, I met with Clinton County commissioners and the sheriff to discuss this Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance. I plan to meet with Centre County officials in the near future.

My resolve is strong on this matter. There is no freedom without the ability to defend that freedom.

Stand with me to secure the 76th District as a Second Amendment Sanctuary County in both Clinton and Centre counties.

The lightning American drone strike which killed the Iranian terror master Qasem Soleimani Jan. 3 in Baghdad is without any doubt the biggest win against terrorism for the United States. That includes killing both al-Qaida's Osama bin Laden and Islamic State's Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Indeed, Iran's Soleimani was instrumental in so many terror operations around the world in the past 25 years. While the West should have been ecstatic at the passing of a man that had directly and indirectly killed hundreds of thousands of people, including during the Syrian war, Europe's overall reaction was one of criticism of its American ally. In contrast, when Iran struck bases in Iraq used by American forces Tuesday, the reaction in Europe was much more timid and the E.U. did not condemn Iran's strikes.

First, it is important to note that the Iranian regime has been at war with the West since it came to power in 1979, and that countries such as France and the United Kingdom have directly suffered casualties at the hands of Tehran. After swallowing 40 years of terror attacks, kidnappings, without any real retaliation from the West, the American strike against Soleimani was the first answer.

To put things in perspective, Soleimani had been on the target list of not only Americans, French, and Israelis, but also British. In 2007, the British SAS planned to assassinate him during the Iraq War, when he was identified as the man running the campaign against British troops in Basra. The plans were stopped by a personal intervention from Labor Foreign Secretary David Miliband, who was afraid of the unintended consequences of the kill in the region.

Despite the pedigree and C.V. of terror master Soleimani, reading and listening to some political leaders in Europe – and for that matter, some Democrats in the United States – one has the impression that a regular politician had been killed. The moral stance of those leaders is despicable when one knows how instrumental Soleimani was in helping dictator Bashar al-Assad kill 500,000 of his own people. For proof, spineless European Council President Charles Michel said the "cycle of violence, provocations and retaliations which we have witnessed in #Iraq over the past few weeks has to stop," putting on the same level terror attacks from Iran's proxies in Iraq and the U.S. killing of Soleimani.

The Iranian lobby seems to be quite effective in Brussels. Indeed, the three E.U. "foreign ministers" have been pro-Iranian regime: After Catherine Ashton, the mullah-loving Federica Mogherini and now the Spanish Socialist Josep Borell, who is well-known for his close connections to Tehran. The E.U. is not appeasing Tehran but actually siding de facto with the Iranian regime.

Time and again the E.U. has chosen a rogue regime with European blood on its hands over a long-time steady ally that has saved the continent from tyranny over the 20th century.

Here is Tehran's track record in just the past few months: it attacked oil tankers in the UAE, seized a British tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, attacked Saudi Aramco oil facilities, kidnapped more Western nationals, killed hundreds of protesters in Iraq, killed more than 1,500 of its own people during the recent November demonstrations, shot down a U.S. drone, killed an American contractor and stormed the American embassy in Iraq.

What did Europe's diplomacy do to sanction Iran for its nefarious actions? Nothing.

They actually rewarded Iran. The E-3 (France, Germany and the U.K.) decided last year to set up a mechanism, called INSTEX, to circumvent the U.S. sanctions on Iran. Germany has historically had excellent relations not only with Iran, but also with Lebanese terror proxy Hizballah. Germany has been very tolerant about illegal Hizballah activities in the country, and in some areas of Berlin, it is not rare to see Hizballah flags proudly displayed outside homes.

Europe has witnessed some of Iran's most aggressive action in the past two years. Iran has tried to carry out terror attacks in France, the Netherlands and Denmark. The most sophisticated attack, which was foiled by European security services, was a 2018 plot to bomb a huge rally near Paris organized by the MeK, the largest exiled Iranian opposition group, and attended by former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani among other personalities.

Worsening French-Iranian relations after this foiled attack caused French authorities to fear redux of the 1985-86 Iran-led terror campaign in France. This pushed French President Emmanuel Macron to defuse the tension by having a much more lenient foreign policy vis-à-vis Iran. Thus, France, which had been leading the global anti-Iran front since the 1980s, began bending backwards last year to please Iran. For instance, Macron instructed French secret services to tone down their criticism of Iran, especially regarding the state terrorism accusations. He also proposed offering Iran a $15 billion line of credit in September if it returns to the fold. While France tried to placate Iran, Tehran decided last summer to take two French citizens hostage.

The tool of kidnapping Western citizens is something of a trademark for the rogue regime in Tehran: at least 14 foreign and dual nationals, especially French and British, are known to be detained in Iran. Europe has been sadly apathetic and has historically given in to the Iranian regime's demands in order to get their citizens freed. Recently, Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has confirmed that the U.K. offered the release of £400m "owed" to Iran from a decades-old deal in return for Tehran freeing British-Iranian charity worker Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.

The U.K. has been the main European target of Iranian nefarious acts along with France. This should not be a surprise since in 2016, Khameini, Iran's supreme leader, said, "For centuries, Britain has always been the source of wickedness and evil among nations of our region. The strikes that these Britons have blown against the lives of our neighbors are incomparable to others."

So, Iran conducted an aggressive campaign against the U.K., not only by kidnapping citizens, but also by conducting a brutal cyberattack on the British Parliament in 2017 that hit dozens of MPs and 9,000 email accounts, including that of then-Prime Minister Theresa May. Also, in Scotland, dissidents were being terrorized last year by "armed" Iranian agents who threatened to kill them and their families in Iran if they did not halt their political opposition.

After the U.K. bravely placed Iran's most potent terror proxy, Hizballah, on its terror organizations list last year, including both the political and military wings, a mind-boggling story came out. The British government covered up its 2015 discovery of a Hizballah bomb factory near London. Reportedly, the discovery was covered up to not shed a bad light on Iran after the nuclear deal was signed.

One of the main reasons for Europe to be very timid with Iran is concern that Iran could carry out, through its proxies, a major terror campaign on the continent. This argument is not taken lightly in European capitals, especially since Iran called last year for Europe to normalize trade ties with the Islamic Republic despite U.S. sanctions, or face "consequences."

While continental Europe has been appeasing Iran, as we saw after the killing of terror master Soleimani, the U.K. is showing some signs of rebellion. Indeed, in a very British understated way, U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he "will not lament" the death of Iran's top general, who "posed a threat to all our interests" and warned the Iranians not to attempt "retaliation or reprisals" against America.

Prosecutions Expose Extensive Iran-Hizballah Operations Network Inside U.S.

Iran fired a volley of a dozen ballistic missiles toward Iraqi airbases where Americans are stationed Tuesday night in retaliation for the Jan. 3 U.S. drone strike which killed its general and terrorist leader Qasem Soleimani.

"They were slapped last night but such actions are not enough," Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei wrote soon after the attack. "The corruptive presence of the US in the region of West Asia must be stopped #SevereRevenge," Khamenei wrote in a subsequent post.

If tensions escalate further, the U.S. homeland could be a potential target of an Iran-sponsored attack, based on an Investigative Project on Terrorism report on criminal prosecutions of Iranian operatives and those of its Lebanese proxy Hizballah.

The report shows there are countless supporters of Iran and Hizballah living in the United States. Most cases involve financial and other forms of material support. But talk of "sleeper cells" has been around for years, and at least one operative told law enforcement that Iran could activate them to carry out attacks in "certain scenarios."

They tried it at least once.

A senior officer from Iran's deadly Quds Force participated in a plot to kill Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Washington. Meanwhile, senior members of Hizballah's Islamic Jihad Organization (IJO) have been prosecuted for scouting potential targets for attack in the United States.

These plots were crafted while arch-terrorist Qasem Soleimani led the Quds Force, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps' (IRGC) elite overseas unit.

Soleimani was the mastermind behind Iran's global terror operations that included last month's rocket attack on an Iraqi military base that killed an American civilian contractor and injured several U.S. military service members, and the New Year's Eve attack on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad.

"General Soleimani was actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region." the Department of Defense said after the drone strike. The agency held Soleimani and the Quds Force "responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American and coalition service members and the wounding of thousands more."

Last April, the Trump administration designated the IRGC, including its Quds Force, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).

"The IRGC FTO designation highlights that Iran is an outlaw regime that uses terrorism as a key tool of statecraft and that the IRGC, part of Iran's official military, has engaged in terrorist activity or terrorism since its inception 40 years ago," said a State Department fact sheet announcing the designation.

Under Soleimani's leadership, the Quds Force trained Iraqi terrorists to make powerful roadside bombs to kill American troops after the 2003 invasion. Also under his watch, the IRGC and Quds Force exploited the turmoil in the wake of the Arab Spring revolts to advance Iranian imperialism in the Middle East and beyond. This included recruiting hundreds and thousands of Shias from Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and other places to prop up Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad's murderous regime.

Soleimani was also the brains behind the establishment of terrorist networks in the Golan Heights, using Hizballah, Druze, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) operatives to target Israel. Under his command, Shi'ite militia operatives fired rockets toward Israel, and the IRGC and Hizballah launched terror attacks against Jewish targets in Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Thailand, Georgia, and Kenya. In addition to killing Americans and destroying hundreds of thousands of lives in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, Israel, and Gaza, Soleimani has also been responsible for the deaths of Iranians, including during the recent brutal crackdown on Iranian protesters.

Even as America's overseas assets are more likely targets for Iran, the U.S. homeland remains vulnerable. A senior Quds official, Ali Gholam Shakuri, was indicted in 2011 for his involvement in a plot to kill Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States. Texas car salesman Manssor Arbabsiar, who was arrested in connection with the plot, told law enforcement agents that "he was recruited, funded and directed by men he understood to be senior officials in Iran's [Quds] Force."

According to the complaint, IRGC officials believed they were dealing with a "sophisticated and violent" Mexican drug cartel to carry out the hit on the ambassador. A $100,000 down payment on the hit shows the Iranians were comfortable dealing with the cartel representative, who, in fact, was a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) informant.

While the complaint does not name the Los Zetas, it describes the cartel the Iranians thought that they were dealing with as having "engaged in numerous acts of violence, including assassinations and murders."

A leaked September 2010 Tucson Police Department internal memo talked of growing ties between Hizballah operatives and Mexican drug traffickers. There was an increasing use of improvised explosive devices and car bombs by Mexican drug trafficking organizations that suggest a growing collusion with the Hizballah militant groups which specialize in such explosive devices, the report noted.

Additionally, agents of the Islamic Republic and its Lebanese proxy Hizballah have an established presence in the United States.

A 1997 FBI report, declassified in 2008 and obtained by the IPT through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), said that Hizballah members in the U.S. "raised and collected hundreds of thousands of dollars which were sent to support Hizballah activities in Lebanon."

Foreign intelligence surveillance wiretaps from that period show those members "receive directions for their terrorist activities in the United States from leaders of Hizballah who reside outside of the United States."

A ranking Hizballah operative in the United States serves as a "direct communications link between Hizballah leadership in Lebanon and Hizballah members in the United States and he collects funds for Hizballah headquarters in Lebanon," the memo said. The funds are used to support the group's terrorist activities.

While high-level Hizballah operatives conduct complex, interstate criminal enterprises to bankroll the group's international terror activities, senior members from the Shiite extremist group have been prosecuted for plotting attacks in the United States. These prosecutions are detailed in the IPT report that provides links to the actual court documents. The prosecutions show how Hizballah operatives have engaged in drug running, human smuggling, money laundering, racketeering, and tax evasion to raise funds for the terrorist group. The report also includes prosecutions of Iranians who have engaged in espionage or conspiracy to evade U.S. sanctions against Iran.

In September, a Hizballah operative living in Morristown, N.J., was indicted for conducting surveillance of targets to help the terrorist group prepare for future attacks. Alexei Saab, also known as Ali Hassan Saab, joined Hizballah in 1996 and subsequently became a member of the Islamic Jihad Organization (IJO), Hizballah's overseas unit that is tasked with plotting attacks outside of Lebanon. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen after lying on his immigration documents that he had never been "a member of or in any way associated with ... a terrorist organization."

While here, Saab scouted several prominent New York City targets, including the United Nations headquarters, the Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, the Empire State Building, and local airports, tunnels, and bridges. Saab also carried out operations for the IJO, including the attempted murder of a man he suspected was an Israeli spy. He also conducted intelligence-gathering for Hizballah in Turkey.

In December, Hizballah operative Ali Kourani was sentenced to 40 years in prison for carrying out covert activities for IJO. Kourani scouted out possible weapons suppliers, identified people affiliated with Israeli Defense Forces, and gathered intelligence on JFK International Airport along with federal buildings and military and law enforcement facilities in New York City.

Kourani had attended a Hizballah weapons program in Lebanon prior to entering the United States lawfully in 2003. He was recruited to the IJO in 2008, a year before he became an American citizen. Soon after his naturalization, Kourani traveled to Guangzhou, China to locate potential suppliers of the explosive chemical ammonium nitrate for the IJO.

Samer El Debek of Dearborn, Mich. was arrested along with Kourani in 2017. El Debek received military training from Hizballah in Lebanon from 2008 through 2014, including extensive training as a bomb maker. A naturalized U.S. citizen, El Debek carried out missions for Hizballah in Thailand and Panama. In Bangkok, he was tasked with cleaning up explosive materials in a house vacated by Hizballah operatives who had to leave because they were under surveillance. During a 2011 Panama visit, El Debek surveilled the U.S. and Israeli embassies, checked out the security detail at the Panama Canal and the Israeli Embassy and located hardware stores where explosive materials could be purchased.

In November, Ahmadreza Mohammadi-Doostdar, a dual U.S.-Iranian citizen, and Majid Ghorbani, an Iranian citizen living in California, pleaded guilty to conducting surveillance on U.S. nationals who were members of the Mujahedin-e-Khaliq (MEK), an Iranian revolutionary group that seeks the overthrow of Iran's clerical regime. In his plea, Doostdaar confessed that he traveled three times to the U.S. from Iran to meet Ghorbani and communicate directions from the Iranian government that included photographs and hand-written notes identifying MEK leaders.

In February, a former U.S. service member and counterintelligence agent was indicted for sharing national defense secrets with the Iranian government. Monica Elfriede Witt, who defected to the Islamic Republic in 2013 and is at large, helped the IRGC target her former colleagues in the U.S. intelligence community. Iranian nationals recruited by the IRGC tried to use fake social media accounts to install malware that would provide them covert access to the computer networks of Witt's former colleagues.

There have been cases of operatives entering the United States through the Mexican border, given the growing influence of Iran and Hizballah in Latin America. According to the 9/11 Commission Staff Report on Terrorist Travel, Salim Boughader-Mucharrafille, a Mexican of Lebanese descent who owned a café in Tijuana, smuggled "Lebanese nationals sympathetic to Hamas and Hezbollah into the United States" from Mexico. Trained Hizballah fighter Mahmoud Youssef Kourani surreptitiously entered the U.S. through the Mexican border in early 2001 in the trunk of a car.

These and other prosecutions reveal a long and active presence of Iranian and Hizballah operatives in the United States. Although Iran or Hizballah operatives have yet to conduct a major attack on U.S. soil, it would be imprudent to overlook their potential to strike key targets in the country.

The following is excerpted from “Woman ‘not worthy of respect,’” The Christian Post, Dec. 19, 2019: “A woman who was ousted from her job for writing on Twitter that men who identify as transgender are not women has lost her case before an employment tribunal that said her views are ‘not worthy of respect.’ In a highly anticipated ruling, an employment tribunal decided that Maya Forstater, formerly a senior researcher at the London office of the think-tank Centre for Global Development, was not fired without just cause. Forstater was fired from her job earlier this year for tweeting on her personal account that ‘men cannot change into women.’ She was also critical of a decision to place a convicted pedophile and rapist who goes by the name Karen White--a biological male formerly known as Stephen Wood--in a women’s-only prison because he claimed to identify as female and subsequently sexually assaulted female inmates. Judge James Tayler wrote in the 26-page ruling Wednesday, ‘I conclude from ... the totality of the evidence, that [Forstater] is absolutist in her view of sex and it is a core component of her belief that she will refer to a person by the sex she considered appropriate even if it violates their dignity and/or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment. The approach is not worthy of respect in a democratic society.’ Forstater and many others were stunned at the result. That stating basic biological facts were upheld as legitimate grounds to be fired. ... Voicing her support for Forstater, J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series, tweeted Thursday: ‘Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real? #IStandWithMaya #ThisIsNotADrill.’ ... Commenting Thursday on his blog at The American Conservative, author Rod Dreher noted that the decision is indicative of political efforts in the U.K. ‘This is exactly what LGBT activists want here in the U.S: people like Maya Forstater--who doesn’t appear to be any kind of conservative, but rather a feminist--to be fired and silence[d]. What is it going to take to wake people up? This is a totalitarian movement. It honest to God is. It has colonized the minds of the liberal establishment,’ he said.”

The following is excerpted from “GLADD Tried to Force JK Rowling to Apologize for ‘Transphobic’ Comments,” The Daily Wire, Dec. 23, 2019: “Last week, The Daily Wire reported that author J.K. Rowling was smeared as a “transphobe” and threatened with being “cancelled” because she spoke out in support of researcher Maya Forstater, who was fired from her job with the Centre for Global Development for saying that while transgender individuals can change their outward appearance, male-to-female transgenders remain male and can never be, biologically, ‘women.’ ... Forstater’s case is particularly egregious. Not only was she terminated from her position for articulating scientific facts, but when she brought a case against her former employer to a tribunal in the U.K., which found not just that CGD was justified in firing Forstater, but that Forstater’s basic beliefs--that men can never become biological women--was harmful, even if Forstater was simply saying what she believed. ‘Paying due regard to the qualified right to freedom of expression, people cannot expect to be protected if their core belief involves violating others’ dignity,’ the court said. Forstater’s ‘absolutist’ views on the subject of gender were actually violent, the court found, and her opinion ‘violates their dignity and/or creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment.’ Rowling met with a torrent of abuse for her statement, with LGBTQ+ activists and their allies across the spectrum, threatening Rowling’s livelihood, and demanding that she apologize and admit that she was in error when she spoke out in support of someone who merely acknowledges biological and genetic reality. ... On Friday, the pro-LGBTQ rights group GLADD put out a statement blasting Rowling and challenging her to meet with transgender activists and cherry-picked scientists in order to expand her worldview. In other words, Rowling should submit to indoctrination and bullying until she agrees that male-to-female transgender individuals are, indeed, women. ... Rowling herself ignored them. Her representatives declined GLAAD’s offer of re-education.”

CATHOLIC BISHOPS PROCLAIM HOMOSEXUALITY “NORMAL”

The Catholic bishops of Germany have proclaimed that homosexuality is “a normal form of sexual predisposition” and it should not be changed. On December 5, the German Bishops’ Conference announced the findings of its Commission for Marriage and Family, which included “bishops, sexologists, moral theologians, dogmatic theologians, and canon lawyers.” The only thing missing was the born again theologians who believe the Bible. The press release said, “There was also agreement that the sexual preference of man expresses itself in puberty and assumes a hetero- or homosexual orientation. Both belong to the normal forms of sexual predisposition, which cannot or should not be changed with the help of a specific socialization. .... [For this reason] any form of discrimination of those persons with a homosexual orientation has to be rejected.” This contradicts the 1992 Catechism of the Catholic Church, which states that homosexual acts are “intrinsically disordered” and “contrary to the natural law” (CCC 2357). The Bible condemns not only homosexual acts, but also homosexual lusts. Romans 1:24-27 describes same-sex “lusts” and “affections” and “burning in lusts” as unclean before God.

A study by the parenting app Jiminy published this month found that 15% of 8-year-old girls with smartphones are exposed to sexting, 24% by age 10, 37% by age 13, and 44% by age 16. Nearly 25% of 13-year-old children either requested or were asked to send nude photos of themselves (blog.jiminy.me). The report warned, “Sexting is quickly becoming a normative form of sexual exploration among preteens and teens. As such, parents should expect the real possibility that their children may be approached by others, known or unknown, or approach others in a sexually explicit manner.” Of course, biblical wisdom would teach any parent that no child should have a smartphone, iPad, laptop, or gaming device that has any connection whatsoever with the Internet. “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners” (1 Corinthians 15:33). “The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame” (Proverbs 29:15).

Virginia Democrats led by Gov. Ralph Northam have introduced strict new gun control measures requiring gun owners to register their firearms with the state, and also banning the possession of magazines that hold over ten rounds.

The bill, known as H.B. 961, also enacts a ban on suppressors and “trigger activators.”

The legislative summary of the bill is as follows:

The bill makes it a Class 6 felony to import, sell, transfer, manufacture, purchase, possess, or transport large-capacity firearm magazines, silencers, and trigger activators, all defined in the bill. Any person who legally owns an assault firearm, large-capacity firearm magazine, silencer, or trigger activator on July 1, 2020, may retain possession until January 1, 2021. During that time, such person shall (i) render the assault firearm, large-capacity firearm magazine, silencer, or trigger activator inoperable; (ii) remove the assault firearm, large-capacity firearm magazine, silencer, or trigger activator from the Commonwealth; (iii) transfer the assault firearm, large-capacity firearm magazine, silencer, or trigger activator to a person outside the Commonwealth who is not prohibited from possessing it; or (iv) surrender the assault firearm, large-capacity firearm magazine, silencer, or trigger activator to a state or local law enforcement agency.








As the bill states, every ammunition magazine in Virginia that can accept over ten rounds would have to be destroyed, surrendered to the state, or permanently modified to only hold ten rounds. Suppressors would also have to be turned in or destroyed.

No compensation will be offered by the state.

The bill’s language broadly defining an “assault weapon” is also “designed to encompass 80% lowers and other gun parts, meaning even if you register your firearm… you may not be able to repair it if need be,” reports Bearing Arms.

It also requires every gun owner to register their firearms to the state, using language similar to New York’s highly unpopular SAFE Act from 2014, which virtually no citizen obeyed.

The gun confiscation bill will almost certainly be challenged in court, as it plainly violates Virginia citizens’ Second Amendment rights.

In December, Northam threatened “consequences” for law enforcement entities who’ve declared their respective Virginia counties as Second Amendment sanctuaries.


“If we have constitutional laws on the books and law enforcement officers are not enforcing those laws on the books, then there are going to be consequences, but I’ll cross that bridge if and when we get to it,” he said.

Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways. (Psalm 128:1)

We are living in fearful times, yet the Bible repeatedly tells us to “Fear not.” Scripture assures us that “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). It teaches us that “God is love” (1 John 4:8) and that “perfect love casteth out fear” (1 John 4:18). But at the same time the Bible continually tells us to “Fear God.” How is this seemingly apparent contradiction regarding fear to be reconciled by those who wish to follow God and do His will?

The New Age Take on Fear

In this rapidly changing world, it is important to understand how the biblical concept of “fear” is being redefined by both the world and the church. In particular, a variety of voices on both sides would now have us believe that “the opposite of love is not hate but fear.” It is important to note that this deceptive concept about fear was popularly introduced into the world by a channeled New Age Christ through a set of metaphysical/occult teachings titled A Course in Miracles. In the Introduction on the very first page of this over 1000 page tome, The Course’s “Jesus” proposes this foundational New Age teaching that “the opposite of love is fear” but cleverly adds—“but what is all-encompassing [love] can have no opposite.”1 He says—“Teach only love, for that is what you are.”2 Thus, The Course’s New Age reality is that because love is “all-encompassing” and because God is love, all is therefore God. Consequently, The Course’s false Christ teaches that all fear is delusional and part of a hapless dream from which the dreamer needs to be “gently wakened” by God’s “happy dream.”3 To deliver us out of our “fearful dream,” we are told that God’s dream” is being sent to bring us to our senses and to the realization that we are love and we are God. There is no fear! What becomes apparent is that these false teachings lay the groundwork for a New Age/New Gospel/New Spirituality to completely supplant biblical Christianity. No fear and no fear of God because we are all love and we are all God—all in the name of “God’s dream.” How unbiblical and truly diabolical!

A Course in Miracles and God’s Dream

First published in 1975, A Course in Miracles has become a cult classic that is often referred to as the New Age “Bible.” Allegedly channeled by “Jesus” to clarify “misunderstood” Bible teachings with his “new” revelation, The Course’s false Christ emphatically teaches God’s “happy dream” that there is no sin,4 no evil,5 no Devil,6 and no need to get saved by an external Savior named Jesus Christ. He says we save ourselves7 and the world by recognizing that we are all “one”8 because we are all “Christ”9 and we are all “God.”10 This New Age “Jesus” teaches that “a slain Christ has no meaning”11 and warns us not to make “the pathetic error of clinging to the old rugged cross.”12 He declares that “The journey to the cross should be the last useless journey.”13 Again, all of these false teachings are described as part of “God’s dream” to save the planet as he “wakens” everyone from their “fearful dreams” with his “happy dream”14 that we are all “one” because we are all “God.”

“Fearing God” is Insanity and Madness?

A Course in Miracles lesson number 48 states—“There is nothing to fear”15 and that especially includes not “fearing God.” Fearing God according to this New Age “Jesus” is bogus and directly equated to one’s fear of being God. The Course’s false Christ says we are not to fear God because we are God.16 But he takes our not fearing God a significant step further. In redefining fear, The Course’s New Age “Jesus” describes the Bible’s teaching on the “fear of God” as “stark insanity and raving madness.”17 He goes so far as to state that the Bible’s take on the “fear of God” is the last remaining “obstacle” to “peace.”18 He says that when humanity overcomes its “fear of God” and is collectively “awakened” by “God’s dream” to the reality that they are God—then and only then—can inner peace and world peace be finally realized. However, the Bible’s teachings on the “fear of God” have nothing to do with fear being the opposite of love and our being God. More importantly, Scripture is unequivocal in its oft repeated teachings on the fear of God and how we are to literally fear and revere and joyously worship the one true God who we definitely are not.

Gerald Jampolsky, Oprah Winfrey Endorse The Course

A Course in Miracles gained enormous popularity when psychiatrist/author Dr. Gerald Jampolsky’s best-selling 1979 book Love is Letting Go of Fear promoted The Course and its New Age teachings. However, the biggest endorsement of The Course came in February 1992 when Oprah Winfrey featured then-fledgling author Marianne Williamson and her book A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Oprah told her worldwide television audience that she had purchased a thousand copies of Williamson’s book because she had never “been as moved by a book” as she had by Williamson’s book about A Course in Miracles. Oprah said she believed that the teachings of A Course in Miracles “could change the world.”19 Thanks to Oprah, the false New Age Christ had just been mainstreamed into everybody’s living room. After Oprah’s endorsement, Williamson’s book about The Course shot to #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and stayed there for several months.

Pastors Following New Age Suit

Robert Schuller
Several years after the publication of Jampolsky’s 1979 book Love is Letting Go of Fear, Pastor Robert Schuller celebrated Jampolsky as his featured guest on his worldwide Hour of Power television program. The late Schuller also cited him in his best-selling 1982 book Self-Esteem: The New Reformation. Quoting Jampolsky’s Course teaching that “The opposite of love is not hate, but fear,” Schuller described this false teaching as “profound theology.”20 In this same Self-Esteem book, Schuller made multiple references to the New Age term “God’s dream.” Through his writings, teachings, and television ministry, Schuller passed along The Course’s New Age take on “fear being the opposite of love” and the term “God’s dream” to millions of people—but perhaps most especially pastors. At his longstanding Robert H. Schuller Institute for Successful Church Leadership, Schuller communicated his beliefs and teachings to countless pastors over the years. Graduates from Schuller’s Institute routinely incorporated Schuller’s teachings into their own ministries. Perhaps the most famous “graduate” from Schuller’s Institute is Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren.21

Rick Warren
Echoing Schuller, Jampolsky, and the false Christ of A Course in Miracles, Rick Warren took the New Age teaching on “fear being the opposite of love” one step further. He tried to make it biblical! In an April 9, 2009 article written for The Christian Post, Rick Warren, without citing any Bible reference, wrote—“The Bible says the opposite of love is fear, and the opposite of fear is love.”22 Yet, there is no properly translated Bible that says this. The only “Bible” that says this is A Course in Miracles—the New Age “Bible.” What Schuller described as “profound theology,” Rick Warren was now describing as biblical. And just as Schuller passed this false New Age teaching about fear being the opposite of love to countless pastors like Rick Warren, Warren is now passing this false teaching on to a new generation of pastors—pastors like Mark Batterson and Jason Mitchell.

Mark Batterson
Echoing A Course in Miracles, Robert Schuller, and Rick Warren, Circle Maker author Mark Batterson writes:

The opposite of love is not hate. The opposite of love is fear.23

In his best-selling book Chase the Lion, Batterson uses the word dream over 500 times. He not only references the term “God’s Dream,”24 but like the false Christ of A Course in Miracles, he introduces the idea of God’s dream “within” a dream.25 In addition to his controversial endorsements of The Shack26 and Jesus Calling,27 Batterson has also publicly praised and recommended a number of books by New Age authors (e.g. Eckhart Tolle, James Redfield, and Jack Canfield).28 Wittingly or unwittingly, Batterson is using the overlapping language of the New Age, Robert Schuller, and Rick Warren (whom he openly respects and praises).29

Jason Mitchell
In the May 5, 2017 edition of the popular Christian publication Relevant Magazine, there was an article by Pastor Jason Mitchell titled “The Opposite of Love Isn’t Hate.” In the article, Mitchell wrote—“The opposite of love isn’t hate—it’s fear.”30 Several months prior to the publication of his article, Mitchell’s Pennsylvania church spent six weeks of Sundays going through Rick Warren’s book The Purpose-Driven Life. Whether or not Mitchell picked up this teaching of fear directly from Rick Warren is not the point. The point is that—thanks to Robert Schuller and Rick Warren—this false New Age teaching on fear is now in the church.

The Bible’s Warning

Not surprisingly, the Bible specifically warns about false teachings on fear that are taught by the precepts of men and not by God:

Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men. (Isaiah 29:13)

Fear God—Yes!

Consult any dictionary or thesaurus, and it will not tell you that the opposite of love is fear; it is hate. And while the word “fear” in the Bible is translated from Hebrew and Greek words that have slightly varying and nuanced meanings, the word fear generally means just that—fear. The degree of fear in these definitions can range from “mild uneasiness to stark terror.”31 The frequent biblical command to “Fear not” means we are not to give undue respect or regard to man or to be unnecessarily anxious or afraid of the challenging circumstances that inevitably arise in our lives. But the Bible is exceedingly clear that we are to definitely fear God. But our fear of God is ideally tempered with joyous love, worshipful adoration, and reverential regard. This loving but real fear of God bears witness to the supreme significance of our relationship with Him and to the eternal consequences the relationship holds. We are to both love and fear who He is—“Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come” (Revelation 4:8).

Fear Man—No!

An important distinction must be maintained between the “fear of God” and the “fear of man.” The Bible says we are not to fear the “reproach” or “revilings” of man (Isaiah 51:7). It warns that the fear of man is a “snare” (Proverbs 29:25) and a “sin” (1 Samuel 15:24-25). But the fear of God is “for our good always” (Deuteronomy 6:24). The Bible teaches that while we are not to fear man or the circumstantial challenges we may be confronted with—we are to fear God. But why? So the Lord can scare, intimidate, manipulate, demean, and ultimately control us? Not at all. Scripture makes it clear that the “fear of God” is a most amazing and wonderful thing. It is the beginning of “knowledge” and “wisdom” (Proverbs 1:7, 9:10). Our fear of God is not only not an “obstacle” to peace—it is something that will bless us (Psalm 128:1), make us “happy,” (Proverbs 28:14) and cause our soul to “dwell at ease” (Psalm 25:12-13).

“Fear of the Lord” Rests Upon Jesus

The prophet Isaiah—prophesying about the coming of the Messiah (the true Jesus Christ)—describes how the spirit of “the fear of the LORD” literally rests upon Him.

And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. (Isaiah 11:1-2)

Jesus Taught the Fear of God

Our Spiritual Adversary, through his deceptive “God’s dream” theology, wants to redefine fear as something that is the opposite of love and not even real. He wants to eliminate fear because he does not want us to fear and revere the one true God. He does not want us to know the benefits and blessings that come from fearing God. And he most certainly does not want us to know that Jesus Christ Himself specifically taught that we should all fear God. Jesus said we are not to fear those who kill the body, but we are to “fear him” who is “able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matthew 10:27-28)

The “fear of the Lord” is not only something God desires (Deuteronomy 5:29) but also what He requires (Deuteronomy 10:12)—not for His good, but “for our good always” (Deuteronomy 6:24). Contrary to the false New Age Christ and those who wittingly or unwittingly espouse his false New Age teachings about fear, Scripture repeatedly tells us just how important and necessary the fear of God is for the serious believer.

Fear Of God

Fearing God is What God Desires
O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! (Deuteronomy 5:29)

Fearing God is What God Requires
And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul. (Deuteronomy 10:12)

Fearing the Lord is a Fountain of Life
The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. (Proverbs 14:27)

Fear of the Lord is His Treasure
And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his treasure. (Isaiah 33:6)

Fearing God Pleases God
The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. (Psalm 147:11)

Fearing God for Our Good
And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me. (Jeremiah 32:39-40)

Fearing God is for Our Good Always
And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day. (Deuteronomy 6:24)

Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Knowledge
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7)

Fear of the Lord is to be Sought and Understood
Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. (Proverbs 2:3-5)

Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Wisdom
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. (Proverbs 9:10)

Fear of the Lord is the Instruction of Wisdom
The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility. (Proverbs 15:33)

Fear the Lord and Bless the Lord

If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him. (Deuteronomy 13:1-4)

Fear God and be Delivered from Your Enemies
But the LORD your God ye shall fear; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies. (2 Kings 17:39)

Fear God and Have Strong Confidence and a Place of Refuge
In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.(Proverbs 14:26)

Fear the Lord and Don’t Sin
And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. (Exodus 20:20)

Fear the Lord and be Shown His Covenant
The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will show them his covenant. (Psalm 25:14)

Fear God and Receive a Banner
Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. (Psalm 60:4)

Fear of God for Those Who Rule
The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. (2 Samuel 23:3)

Fear God and Honor All Men
Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. (1 Peter 2:17)

Fear God and Fellowship with One Another
Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. (Malachi 3:16)

Fear God and Submit Yourselves One to Another
Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. (Ephesians 5:21)

Fear God and be a Companion to Those Who Keep His Precepts
I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts. (Psalm 119:63)

Fear God and Beware of Those Given to Change
My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change. (Proverbs 24:21)

Fear of the Lord is Clean
The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever. (Psalm 19:9)

Fear of the Lord Brings Honor
By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life. (Proverbs 22:4)

Fear the Lord and Walk Uprightly
He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him. (Proverbs 14:2)

Fear God and Walk in His Ways
Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him. (Deuteronomy 8:6)

Fear God and Perfect Holiness
Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. (2 Corinthians 7:1)

Fear God and Declare His Works
And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall wisely consider of his doing. (Psalm 64:9)

Fear God and Individually Grow

Fear God and Churches Grow
Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied. (Acts 9:31)

Fear God and His Salvation is Nigh
Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land. (Psalm 85:9)

Fear God and Be Saved
He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them. (Psalm 145:19)

And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him. (Revelation 14:6-7)

Fear God and Fear His Name
Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. (Psalm 86:11)

Fear God and Glorify His Name
Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest. (Revelation 15:4)

Fear God by Passing Your Time Here in Fear
And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear. (1 Peter 1:17)

Fear God From All the Ends of the Earth
God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him. (Psalm 67:7)

Fear God and His Goodness in the Latter Days
Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days. (Hosea 3:5)

Fear God All the Earth
O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth. (Psalm 96:9)

Fear God All Day Long
Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. (Proverbs 23:17)

Fear God as Long as You Live
Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children. (Deuteronomy 4:10)

Fear the Lord Through All Generations
They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations. (Psalm 72:5)

Fear God Forever
That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever. (Joshua 4:24)

Fear of God: Foundational to Our Faith

Scripture tells us that one of the foundational attributes of the early church was their fear of God:

And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. (Acts 2:42-43)

If the anti-Christ false Christ of the New Age movement continues to have his way, fear will continue to be redefined out of the world, out of the church, and out of our lives. This redefinition of fear is at the heart of the deception and why fear being the opposite of love is taught on the very first page of the New Age “Bible”—A Course in Miracles. But those who truly love God and His Word also fear Him. When it comes to the fear of God, fear and love are intimately bound together—they are not opposites. Teaching that they are opposites is to play right into the hands of our Spiritual Adversary and His anti-christ New Age/New Spirituality.

The Conclusion—Fear God

The Bible makes it very clear that we are to fear God, and we are not to adopt false teachings about fear that are taught by the precepts of men (Isaiah 29:13). In the Book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon states that when all is said and done—we are to fear God and keep His commandments:

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)
