 WASHINGTON, D.C. — A historic Baptist
“church” in the nation’s capital has hired two “married” lesbian women
to lead their congregation, a move that has raised concerns among
Baptists nationwide.
Calvary Baptist Church, which disassociated with the Southern Baptist Convention in 2012, presented Maria Swearingen and Sally Sarratt as “co-pastors” this past Sunday, according to a press release from the Ministerial Selection Committee.
The two hail from Greenville, South Carolina as Sarratt had been serving as associate chaplain in the Greenville Health System and Swearingen as associate chaplain at Furman University. Sarratt had also been working part time at Greenville Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.
“As we met and talked with Sally and Maria about their vision for pastoral leadership at Calvary, we were struck by their deep faith and commitment to being part of a gospel community,” Committee Chair Carol Blythe said in a statement.

“We were impressed by how their gifts, talents, and experience matched our ministry priorities—and we are thrilled about their upcoming pastorate and the versatility the co-pastor model will provide our congregation,” she added.
The women are expected to assume their roles in February.
But some have expressed concern over the arrangement, including Albert Mohler of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

“Here you have a church—Calvary Baptist Church, one of the most historic congregations in the nation’s capital—that has now called a legally married lesbian couple as co-pastors,” he said on Tuesday during his podcast “The Briefing.” “The overarching pattern [in this matter] is the trajectory of American Protestant liberalism. That liberalism began as an impulse to try to modify Christianity so that it would fit better into a modern age.”
Mohler opined that the problems, however, go deeper than lesbianism, as he noted that one of the women works as a minister for a universalist assembly.
The Unitarian Universalist Association website outlines, “Few of us believe in divine judgment after death. It’s in our religious DNA: the Universalist side of our tradition broke with mainstream Christianity by rejecting the idea of eternal damnation.”
“If the [District of Columbia Baptist Convention] does not expel Calvary Baptist Church from their membership, then they by very definition simply become a convention that will accept—that indeed does accept—a church that has legally married lesbian co-pastors in terms of their own membership,” Mohler stated.
But Convention director Robert Cochran told reporters that the organization has no intention of expelling Calvary Baptist.
“We have no plans to disassociate [with Calvary]. To the best of my knowledge, the D.C. Baptist Convention, due to its respect for local congregational autonomy, has never withdrawn fellowship from any congregation,” he told the Baptist Press.
As previously reported, in 2014, Calvary Baptist ordained Daniel Robinson, a “transgender” who goes by the name Allyson Robinson.
“Allyson Dylan Robinson is a minister of the gospel, trained for the task, and ordained to the gospel ministry by another community in which she has served as pastor,” former leader Amy Butler wrote at that time. “Over the course of her journey, God has invited her to step into the faithful witness of a new identity, a true identity, and a new name.”
Robinson now speaks as an itinerant preacher and appeared at Bruce “Caitlyn” Jenner’s renaming ceremony in 2015.
“Frankly I consider Job, Gautama Buddha, Joan of Arc, Rumi and Johnny Cash to be my spiritual predecessors far more than Augustine, Aquinas or Barth,” he told the Alliance of Baptists in April. “My hymnal has a lot less Isaac Watts and Fanny Crosby, but it’s full of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Tupac and Beyonce.”

In the past 48 hours, I've read of two different "Christian" churches whose heretical views and teachings are at opposite ends of the spectrum of stupid. I have to sometimes wonder what parallel universe these pastors reside in, because their sense of Biblical reality is so skewed and perverted, as to be comical.
Allow me to introduce church number one: Faithful Word Baptist Church in Tempe, AZ, founded and pastored by Steven Anderson. This gentleman is a self-ordained preacher with no college degree or professional training whatsoever. Now, considering the unholy tripe Bible seminaries are teaching today, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, without any traditional parameters to hold one accountable it's easy to run off the rails into the jungle of personal opinion with regard to scriptural interpretation.
His bio on the church website states that he was raised in California and traveled through Germany and Eastern Europe for 3 months, serving in several local Baptist churches, studying foreign languages and getting experience in the ministry. Wow. All that knowledge crammed into 3 whole months! It goes on to state he has "well over 140 chapters of the Bible memorized word-for-word, including approximately half of the New Testament." This is shocking to me, considering how he loves to quote Leviticus.
You see, this is a man who has appeared on TV talk shows, been interviewed by radio stations and news casts for the sole reason he LOVES to curse and denigrate homosexuals, quoting scripture about how God commanded they be executed. Now, I know what you're thinking. "Dang, Donna! You've done the same thing!" Well, no I haven't. I've spoken out against homosexuality for years, explaining what the Bible has to say about this practice and referring to those who indulge in that sin as the Bible does, "sodomites."
But, I've NEVER cursed them, called them names, or come close to hinting I HATE them like this man does, ala the finest tradition of in-bred members of the Westboro Baptist Church. Mr. Anderson consistently quotes the Levitical mandate to put gays to death and openly states that if all homosexuals were killed off, AIDS would be eradicated.
He goes out into the community, confronting homosexual citizens, thumping and shaking his Bible at them, yelling such things as "Shut your damn mouth! I don't want to hear a word you have to say!" He told one gay radio host who was interviewing him that he hoped the man came down with brain cancer and died. He has repeatedly stood in front of his congregation and hysterically screamed that no "queers or faggots" would EVER darken the door of that church as long as he is the pastor! EVER! And if anyone didn't like that, they could go to another church.
He has a massive You Tube following in which he preaches that there is no scripture in the Bible that tells us we should repent. He also has a personal mandate to see to it that the teaching of the pre-tribulation rapture is wiped off the face of the earth because "it's a satanic lie!" He preaches against birth control of any kind (He has 9 children), and the women of the congregation don't wear makeup and don't work outside the home. They breed. Kinda sounds cultish, doesn't it?
The problem I have with this guy is he is wildly popular and has hundreds of sermons freely available for download off the church's website. These sermons are filled with screeching, hate-filled, scripture-twisting, heretical diatribe that doesn't even come close to reflecting the teachings of Jesus. Yet, he receives copious media attention, and you can guess why.
The world is fascinated and delighted when they come across a freak like this because he reinforces every fallacy they hold about what Christians act like, and justifies their hated of Christ and God. Thanks a pant-load, Mr. Anderson. You are nothing more than sounding brass and a tinkling cymbal, because you do not LOVE.
Does God hate homosexuality? Yes, He calls it an abomination in His eyes. Does He hate homosexuals? No. He loved them so much, He sent His only begotten Son to die for them. Did Jesus ever scream and curse the lost, broken dregs of society He ministered to? No. He was lovingly firm, forgiving, healing, and cautioned them to "go and sin no more."
Time for church number two. Walk with me to the opposite end of the heretical spectrum, to Calvary Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., who just named a "married" lesbian couple, Sally Sarratt and Maria Swearingen, to co-pastor its congregation. *sigh* REALLY folks?
Church spokeswoman, Carol Blythe, told the Religion News Service "We look for the best people in the world and that's who they were. We're very excited. As we met and talked with Sally and Maria about their vision for pastoral leadership at Calvary, we were struck by their deep faith and commitment to being part of a gospel community." And, what "gospel" would THAT be?
When presented to the congregation during Sunday services, Swearingen and Sarratt told church members: "We have found it so easy to fall in love with Calvary and its longstanding commitment to be a voice of justice and compassion for those who perpetually find the wholeness of their humanity disregarded and maligned." Lovely. This church now has two social justice warriors who sport a large some-people-don't-completely-accept-and-celebrate-our-lifestyle-choice chip on their shoulder, as co-pastors.
So, we go from a pastor who sincerely invokes death and disease on gays during his wild-eyed, foam-spitting sermons, as he literally jumps on top of his pulpit to make a point, all the way to having two SJW lesbian queens appointed as shepherds over a flock of CINO's. Well, who can say for sure? There may actually be a few bona-fide, Bible believing Christians in both those churches. If there are, I hope they run away fast enough that the doorknob doesn't hit them in the back!
What in heaven's name is wrong with these people? From what Biblical source are they receiving their theology? What god are they supposedly serving? How can they be so deluded as to be convinced they're pleasing to and/or accurately representing Almighty God and His Son? I'm getting a headache.
One pastor spews pure, blind, vitriolic, white-hot hatred while the other two are busy filling out their Sisters of Sappho membership cards. And we marvel that the 'church' is so screwed up! Poor God; what disappointment and disgust He must feel when He surveys this earth. The gospel is so simple, yet what has mankind done to it? Twisted it; perverted the message; fractured it into countless factions of denominations, each one sure their views are the 'right' ones.
No wonder Jesus warned "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." -Matthew 7:13-14 (KJV) As time goes on, it becomes clearer every day just how few people really WILL find the narrow gate.
Look folks, the mandate isn't difficult to understand. Jesus made it very simple, and God left us the incomparable masterpiece of the Bible to guide us in how to relate to others and navigate our way through this cesspool we call the world.
"Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." -Matthew 22:36-40 (KJV) There. Told you it was simple. Now do it!
But, are we supposed to just accept homosexuality? What if they want to come into the church? Whattaya think the church is for?! It's a spiritual intensive care unit for the sick and lost. Yes, you welcome homosexuals into your church. And you love them and lead them to Jesus, explaining Christ's salvation as well as the consequences for refusing that gift.
If they are truly born again, the Bible tells us "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV) That's when the pastor and deacons can begin to pray for their deliverance, and hold them accountable regarding renouncing their gay lifestyle. They may struggle for a time because of all the brainwashing they've suffered over the years, but there IS hope.
What if they refuse to change their actions, saying they are born that way and just can't help their feelings? Well, our 'feelings' are meaningless. We are ALL tempted in some aspect of sin. Sodomy is simply their weakness. That doesn't give them license to give into that temptation and act on it any more than other members giving in to their desire to fornicate, commit adultery or abuse drugs.
Jesus was clear when He cautioned people about following Him. There IS a cost involved and sometimes that cost is painful and uncomfortable. It's a sacrifice. "And he said to them all, 'If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.'" Luke 9:23 (KJV) There may come a time where they have to choose what is more important: following Jesus or satisfying their sexual appetite.

If they choose homosexuality, then the Bible outlines how the elders and pastor are to deal with them. But it NEVER includes screaming threats of hellfire and hatred, nor does it direct that Christians accept and overlook their sin. No matter what, they are to be treated with respect and love; sometimes tough love, but love nonetheless.
The fact that I'm even writing about this is proof positive that we are in the last seconds of the Age of Grace. The door to the ark of safety is closing, and God's wrath on this depraved generation is about to fall. Are you saved?

EXCERPT:
"In 1 Timothy 2:12-13 the role of women in the context of the church setting is as stated, “But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve.”  Take note that this is not cultural mandate, the Apostle Paul uniquely adds a clarifier that this is from the creation of man and women establishing the order of Federal Headship and which gender is to lead the church. In other words, Paul’s words here are not an opinion but a doctrinal statement."
