NEW DOCUMENT SHOWS HILLARY CLINTON VIOLATED NATIONAL SECURITY
Published on Nov 6, 2015
Hillary Clinton’s unrelenting private email drama has taken on a new level of undeniable legal criminality. The Washington Free Beacon has revealed “As the nation’s chief diplomat, Hillary Clinton was responsible for ascertaining whether information in her possession was classified and acknowledged that “negligent handling” of that information could jeopardize national security, according to a copy of an agreement she signed upon taking the job.

Should your daughter have to share showers with a boy and have him competing on her sports team? The Obama administration certainly thinks so, as its Education Department has just ruled that an Illinois school must allow a boy claiming to be a girl “unfettered access to girls’ facilities.” Writes the Chicago Tribune:
Illinois' largest high school district violated federal law by barring a transgender student from using the girls' locker room, authorities concluded Monday.
The U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights spent nearly two years investigating Palatine-based Township High School District 211 and found "a preponderance of evidence" that school officials did not comply with Title IX, the federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex.
The student, who has identified as a girl for a number of years, filed a complaint with the Office for Civil Rights in late 2013 after she was denied unrestricted access to the girls' locker room. District and federal officials negotiated for months, and a solution appeared imminent as recently as last week, when the district put up privacy curtains in the locker room.
But talks stalled after school officials said the student would be required to use the private area, as opposed to offering her a choice to use it. Although the student said she intends to use the private area or a locker room bathroom stall to change, the stipulation constitutes "blatant discrimination," said John Knight, director of the LGBT and AIDS Project at ACLU of Illinois, which is representing the student.
First note that the above article, as all mainstream media now do as policy, uses feminine pronouns to refer to what American Thinker’s Ed Straker, in an emperor-has-no-clothes moment, calls a “disguised boy.” Speaking of emperors, the media’s altered-eye habit is a bit like referring to a man fancying himself Napoleon as Your Imperial Highness.
Yet there’s something in this matter universally unnoted. Consider the Tribune’s line, “School officials did not comply with Title IX, the federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex.” The problem?
“Transgender” activists have taken pains, repeatedly, to emphasize that “gender” is not synonymous with “sex.”
They acknowledge that sex is a biological distinction. But they define “gender” as a person’s perception of what he is and claim that it often doesn’t match his biological sex. For instance, the homosexuality-activism organization GLAAD states in its Media Reference Guide on “Transgender Issues” that sex is “a combination of bodily characteristics including: chromosomes, hormones, internal and external reproductive organs, and secondary sex characteristics.” It then explains that a person’s “gender identity” is “one's internal, deeply held sense of one's gender,” clearly drawing a distinction between the two terms. This is why sexual revolutionaries co-opted the word “gender” — which used to apply only to language (i.e., word division into masculine, feminine, and neuter) — in the first place. In fact, the notion that human “gender” exists and is different from “sex” is the very basis, the central tenet, of the transgender movement. It is why it’s called the transgender movement and not the transsexmovement.
Yet the law cited by the DOE, Title IX (unconstitutional to begin with), clearly addresses only discrimination “on the basis of sex” (law’s text here). And, of course, the “transgender” movement is a recent phenomenon, with the word not even taking on its current meaning until the 1990s. Thus, it’s obvious that Title IX’s 1972 framers intended to address sex discrimination and only sex discrimination. For good or ill, they wanted to ensure that girls had equal access to educational opportunities, not that boys claiming girlhood would have equal access to girls’ locker rooms.
To completely close the loop here, some may propose that Title IX can apply because the term equivalent to “transgender” in the '70s was “transsexual.” Untrue. A “transsexual” was someone who had undergone euphemistically named “sexual-reassignment surgery,” not someone merely “identifying” as a member of the opposite sex, which is the case with the Illinois boy. (Of course, Title IX’s framers weren’t talking about transsexuals, either.) So, clearly, the DOE is twisting the law to fit an agenda, trying to match today’s living-document jurists with its own living-document bureaucrats.
Yet it isn’t just the feds. State authorities across the nation have in recent years compelled schools to allow “transgender” students to use the opposite-sex’s facilities and play on its sports teams. And the irony is that our language, educational standards, and culture are being upended — and those opposing this are being called bigots — based not on science but ideology.
At issue here is the “diagnosis” known as “gender dysphoria” (GD), which, we're told, is a condition in which a person’s conception of his true “gender” doesn’t match his biological sex. But as I explained last November:
There is no blood test for it [GD]. There is no identifiable genetic marker. There is no medical exam at all. Rather, the diagnosis is made based on, as PsychCentral.com puts it, “strong and persistent cross-gender identification”; in other words, strong and persistent feelings that you actually are a member of the opposite sex.
Yet such a diagnostic standard would constitute malpractice in any other branch of medicine. Could you imagine a patient telling a cardiologist that he has a strong and persistent feeling he has heart disease and the doctor, on that basis alone, performing bypass surgery? The point is that whatever one thinks of the soundness of the “gender dysphoria” diagnosis, the basis on which it’s made certainly is not medically sound.
Yet other than having implications for remedial treatment, would it matter if there were a genetic basis for “transgenderism”? The existence of genetic disorders such as Down syndrome, sickle-cell anemia, and Tay-Sachs disease inform that inborn isn’t synonymous with normal or desirable. And the same social scientists claiming homosexuality is innate also tell us that psychopaths are born and not made. And if it was determined that homicidal instincts could be inborn, would this make murder “moral” for those so disposed? The “it’s okay if I was born that way” thesis does nothing less than replace morality with biological determinism. So the truth here is simple: Biology can generate mistakes — but not morality.
Yet sexual distinctions in sports exist for a reason, well illustrated by the fact that the mile record for 15-year-old boys is better than the women’s world record. And Richards, who paved his own way to compete in women’s tennis by winning a 1977 lawsuit against the USTA, now agrees. As he said some time back, “Having lived for the past 30 years, I know if I’d had surgery at the age of 22, and then at 24 went on the tour, no genetic woman in the world would have been able to come close to me. And so I’ve reconsidered my opinion.”
And that’s a word to the wise. Perhaps if we consider matters more carefully today, we won’t have to reconsider them amidst the cultural ashes of a dystopian tomorrow.

CHICAGO — The Obama administration has ordered a school district in Illinois to allow a male student who identifies a female to use the girls’ locker room or face enforcement measures that could mean the loss of $6 million in federal funding.
As previously reported, an unidentified high school student within Township High School District 211 requested to use the girls’ locker room nearly two years ago since the student asserts that they identify as female.
But the district declined, citing the privacy concerns of the other students. It in turn offered the student a private location to change, but the student rejected the accommodation. He then contacted the American Civil Liberties Union, which in turn filed a federal complaint with the Office of Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education.
The Department of Education responded by opining that the district had to permit the student to use the locker room of his choice due to Title IX requirements. The two sides continued in talks for a number of months, but the district held firm on requiring privacy for female students while offering various accommodations, which were refused.
On Monday, the Department released its final remarks following the conclusion of its investigation into the matter.
“[T]he evidence establishes that, given Student A’s intention to change privately, the district could afford equal access to its locker rooms for all students if it installed and maintained privacy curtains in sufficient number to be reasonably available for any student who wants privacy,” its letter reads in part, noting that the district did so last week.
“Here the totality of the circumstances weighs in favor of the district granting Student A equal access to the girls’ locker rooms, while protecting the privacy of its students,” the Department opined.
However, negotiations remain impasse. The district now has 30 days to settle the matter or it could be penalized.
“To date, OCR’s efforts to resolve this complaint voluntarily with the district have not been successful,” the letter states. “If an agreement is not reached within 30 calendar days of the date of this letter of findings, OCR must follow the procedures … for the issuance of a letter of impending enforcement action.”
“This decision makes me extremely happy because of what it means for me, personally, and for countless others,” the unidentified student said in a statement released by the ACLU. “The district’s policy stigmatized me, often making me feel like I was not a ‘normal person.'”
But the district continues to maintain that it has done no wrong.
“We believe the law is aligned with our current position, and we are prepared to pursue all measures of due process in order to hear this argument out,” said Superintendent Daniel Cates in a statement. “We don’t believe, and it is false to report that we broke the law because the [office of civil rights] said we did. I believe in this case, they have overstepped.”

HOUSTON, Texas — Residents in Houston, Texas voted overwhelmingly Tuesday night to repeal the city’s controversial homosexual and transgender equality ordinance, also known by opponents as the “bathroom bill.”
As previously reported, Houston Mayor Annise Parker, an open lesbian, had promoted an “Equal Rights Ordinance” in 2014 designed to quell any discrimination in America’s fourth largest city—including any discrimination on the basis of “gender identity.” Most opponents were especially concerned about the “Public Accommodations” section of the ordinance, which would allow men to use women’s restrooms, and vice versa, if they identity with the opposite sex.
“It shall be unlawful for any place of public accommodation or any employee or agent thereof to intentionally deny any person entry to any restroom, shower room, or similar facility if that facility is consistent with and appropriate to that person’s expression of gender identity,” the ordinance states.
The only stipulation, according to the ordinance, was that people who use the opposite sex’s facilities must dress, behave, and clothe themselves in a way that is “consistent with the gender designation of the facility the person attempt[s] to access.”
Last June, Houston City Council passed the bill, resulting in the creation of an initiative signed by area residents who requested that either City Council repeal the ordinance or that it place the matter on the ballot for voters to decide.
The matter soon turned into a lawsuit against Gov. Parker, which generated national attention after attorneys for the City of Houston subpoenaed several area pastors not a party to the lawsuit, and issued discovery requests demanding “all speeches, presentations, or sermons related to [the ordinance], the petition, Mayor Annise Parker, homosexuality, or gender identity…”
In August, the Texas Supreme Court ruled that Houston officials must either repeal the city’s “Bathroom Bill” or place it on the November ballot for a vote. Officials opted for the latter.
On Tuesday, voters overwhelmingly voted to repeal the bill, defeating it 61 to 39 percent.
“I fear that this will have stained Houston’s reputation as a tolerant, welcoming, global city,” Parker said last night after the results were released. “I absolutely fear that there will be a direct economic backlash as a result of this ordinance going into defeat and that’s sad for Houston.”
But Lieutenant Gov. Dan Patrick, who opposed the ordinance, expressed satisfaction with the outcome.
“The voters clearly understand that this proposition was never about equality—that is already the law,” he stated. “It was about allowing men to enter women’s restrooms and locker rooms, defying common sense and common decency.”
“[The vote] was about protecting our grandmoms and our mothers and our wives and our sisters and our daughters and our granddaughters,” Patrick continued. “I’m glad Houston led tonight to end this constant political-correctness attack on what we know in our heart and our gut as Americans is not right.”
Some opine that city council might decide to revisit the issue at a later time and present an altered version of the ordinance for consideration.

With the recent revelation that Senator Marco Rubio has been receiving, and is actively soliciting, funds from billionaires with vastly different agendas from those voters who elected him in 2010, many are questioning how he would act if he were elected president.
With the departure of Scott Walker from the Republican cast of candidates seeking their party’s nomination, and with the virtual disappearance of a presence in the polls by establishment candidate Jeb Bush, it was no surprise that Rubio’s star began its ascendancy. As Paul Singer, one of Rubio’s wealthy donors, wrote, Rubio “is the best explainer of conservatism in public life today.… In a field full of promise … Senator Rubio is the strongest choice.”
Rubio responded in kind, saying that he was “grateful” for Singer’s financial support to his campaign because Singer “is someone who’s successful in raising money.”
Indeed he is. Singer, a Harvard Law School grad and hedge fund manager, has accumulated enough wealth to put him firmly on Forbes’ list of 400 richest Americans, with personal wealth estimated to be in excess of $2 billion. Having signed The Giving Pledge, Singer has committed to giving away half of his wealth in support of causes that address society’s “most difficult moral and economic challenges.” According to his moral worldview, part of his money supports the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Action Fund, with another part helping to fund the American Opportunity Alliance, a group that supports, among other things, “immigration reform.”
“Immigration reform” is code for “amnesty,” according to critics of Rubio’s part in the Gang of Eight’s Senate push to open the doors to illegal immigrants already living in the United States. Others in that Gang include Colorado’s Michael Bennet, sporting a Freedom Index rating — the rating given by The New American for votes that are fiscally sound and constitutional — of 9, Senator Richard Durbin of Illinois with an FI of 10, New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez with an FI of 18, and the inevitable Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, with an FI of 13.
The very fact that Rubio was comfortable comporting with such enemies of the Constitution raises serious questions. His support of Senator Orrin Hatch’s Immigration Innovation Act of 2015 — known colloquially as I-Squared — further reveals an agenda that his wealthy donors support but which contravenes expectations of voters who considered Rubio a Tea Party favorite back in 2010.
A single example will suffice. I-Squared would double or triple the number of H-1B nonimmigrant (temporary) visas issued to foreign nationals possessing “high-level” skills that American industry could use. The only trouble is that certain members of American industry have used those visas to displace Americans from jobs, cutting wage costs and eliminating benefit packages in the process.
One of those taking advantage is the Walt Disney Company. In September Breitbart News Network published a letter from a former employee who worked as an Information Technology (IT) engineer for Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. On his way to work in late October 2014, he received a “meeting invite” on his iPhone for later that morning. Upon arriving in the meeting room, he was surprised to see dozens of his team members and co-workers gathered there as well.
This is his story:
As I watched the grim faced Disney Executive, it was obvious that bad news was going to be delivered. The dead silence was broken when the Disney Executive made a harsh announcement: All of you in this room will be losing your jobs in the next 90 days. Your last day of employment for this company will be January 30, 2015. Your jobs have been given over to a foreign workforce. In the meantime you will be training your replacements until your jobs are 100 percent transferred over to them and if you don’t cooperate you will not receive any severance pay.
The anonymous former Disney employee lost not only his job but his personal self-image as a faithful employee of Disney for the previous 10 years. And he began to question the American system that dashed his dreams in the first place:
The last 30 days were the most disgraceful and demoralizing of this entire period as I had to watch a foreign worker completely take over my job. I had no work to do during the last 30 days other than watch a foreign worker completely take over everything that I did in my job.
One ironic twist was that I actually received a significant pay raise during my last 30 days with the company because I had received the highest possible job rating in performance reviews….
The last day we turned in our mobile phones, laptops, ID badges along with our dignity and we were ushered out the door as temporary foreign workers took over our jobs.
He added:
I frequently question if the IT field holds much future for United States’ citizens or U.S. permanent residents. Should I continue to dodge bullets or move into an entirely new field after having been outsourced on multiple occasions by the same company and then finally physically replaced by a foreign worker?
I would never recommend the IT field to my own children or anybody else that I know for that matter, due to the lack of job opportunities even for someone passionate about the IT field.
We now have American IT workers being displaced by both H1-B visa holders, who are physically being flown in from foreign countries, as well as the continued use of foreign remote offshore workers. We are seeing a massive drain on job opportunities here on our own soil.
What does the future hold for United States’ workers?
That doesn’t seem to be a major question for Rubio. Goldman Sachs has been feeding at the H-1B trough, along with Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, and Larry Ellison of the Oracle Corporation. Each of those companies has actively recruited foreigners who have been issued H-1B visas and used them to replace American workers. Even Carnival Corporation, the cruise ship line, has stepped up to Rubio’s plate in exchange for a special backroom deal that Rubio cut with the Obama administration that, as reported by Breitbart, “creates a new nonimmigrant Z visa to admit individuals who possess “specialized knowledge” to perform maintenance on airlines and cruise ships” in place of American labor.
Together those individuals and corporations have given Rubio tens of thousands of dollars to support his candidacy for president.
After doing his own analysis of Rubio’s policies on immigration, Pastor Chuck Baldwin considers Rubio the insiders’ “water boy” and “the poster child for amnesty for illegal aliens.” Asked Baldwin:
So, tell me again just how a Rubio/Ryan-controlled House and White House are going to restore constitutional government?
They are working for the same multinational corporation.… They have the same warmongering, nation-building foreign policy. They will do nothing to curtail the burgeoning Police State taking place in our country.
They will turn America into a Third World socialist country for the benefit of their Big Money masters.
When Donald Trump learned about the Disney layoffs, he demanded that Disney hire them back and that Rubio apologize:
I am calling TODAY on Disney to hire back every one of the workers they replaced, and I am calling on Rubio to immediately rescind his sponsorship of the I-Squared bill and apologize to every Floridian for endorsing it.
I am further calling on Rubio to return the money he has received from Silicon Valley CEOs and to donate the money to a charity helping unemployed Americans whose jobs Rubio has helped to destroy.
The closer one looks at the policies of Rubio and who is supporting him, the more Rubio looks like Jeb Bush and Paul Ryan. As George Orwell wrote in Animal Farm:
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

Glamour Magazine has announced that Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards and former Olympian Bruce Jenner, who goes by the name Caitlyn, are among its named “Women of the Year” for 2015.
The magazine posted articles about the two this week, praising them for their impact on society.
“Richards oversees a federation with more than 10,000 employees at 700 Planned Parenthood centers across the country,” writer Genevieve Field writes about the leader of the abortion giant, acknowledging that Planned Parenthood performs 300,000 abortions a year. “Even in the face of deep state and federal funding cuts, the organization remains one of the largest reproductive health care providers in the nation.”
The piece also quotes from actress Lena Dunham, stating that “[Richards] is fighting for each and every one of us. I would follow her into a burning building and still not be half as brave as she is.”
Glamour Magazine dubs Bruce Jenner as a “champion” for 2015, titling its “Woman of the Year” article, “Caitlyn Jenner, Trans Champion: ‘Maybe This is Why God Put Me On Earth.'”
“A year, an iconic Annie Leibovitz photograph, an Arthur Ashe Courage Award, and 4.5 million Instagram followers later, Jenner is finding new meaning in her life,” piece reads. “[A]fter years of feeling she had to hide who she is at all costs, she is determined to be relentlessly open.”
“While Jenner’s journey clearly resonates with viewers—her show has just been picked up for a second season—her ultimate impact is more potently measured in small moments,” the piece reads. “She is thrilled that she can finally wear nail polish long enough that it starts to chip off.”
But some are concerned about those that the world chooses to applaud for their actions.
“Exalting Cecile Richards, Planned Parenthood’s CEO to ‘Woman of the Year’ following the publicized videos nightmare is unthinkable to civilized people,” writes Believers Stand United. “While championing ‘women’s rights,’ Glamour Magazine forgets the rights of the human beings developing in their mothers’ wombs.”
“Is there anything more that you need to say about the craziness of today’s society of how we have turned reality upside down?” asked Dr. Michael Brown in an online video commentary on Jenner’s exaltation. “I am … concerned about the 99 percent of the society that is now having this social madness imposed on us—a man being chosen as woman of the year.”
"Carson attended Southwestern High School in Southwest Detroit where he excelled in JROTC, a program sponsored by the United States Armed Forces. He quickly rose to cadet colonel, highest ranking cadet in his area. Carson had recounted numerous times over the course of his career that, after a meeting in 1969 with General William Westmoreland, then the chief of staff of the Army and a recent commander of U.S. military operations in Vietnam, he had been offered a "full scholarship" to West Point. In his autobiography, Gifted Hands, Carson wrote that he dined with Westmoreland, and "Later I was offered a full scholarship to West Point. As overjoyed as I felt to be offered such a scholarship, I wasn't really tempted." On November 6, 2015, Carson's campaign clarified that he had been "introduced to folks from West Point by his ROTC Supervisors....[who] told him they could help him get an appointment based on his grades and performance in ROTC. He considered it but in the end did not seek admission [to West Point].”"
BEN CARSON: NEVER OFFERED WEST POINT SCHOLARSHIP~SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS SHOULD ORDAIN WOMEN~LIKES CATHOLICISM
BEN CARSON IS DONE!
Published on Nov 7, 2015
Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson on Friday conceded that he never applied nor was granted admission to West Point and attempted to recast his previous claims of a full scholarship to the military academy — despite numerous public and written statements to the contrary over the last few decades.
West Point has occupied a central place in Carson’s personal story for years. According to a tale told in his book, “Gifted Hands,” the then-17 year old was introduced in 1969 to Gen. William Westmoreland, who had just ended his command of U.S. forces in Vietnam, and the two dined together. That meeting, according to Carson’s telling, was followed by the offer of a “full scholarship” to the military academy.
West Point, however, has no record of Carson applying, much less being extended admission.

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson told reporters on Friday that he believes Seventh-Day Adventists should ordain women, expressing disagreement with current prohibitions against female headship.
“I don’t see any reason why women can’t be ordained,” he said, opining that it was a “huge mistake” for Adventist leaders to vote against female ordination.
Carson was referring to July’s 60th General Conference Session in San Antonio, where by a vote of 1,381 to 977 delegates voted no to the question, “Is it acceptable for division executive committees, as they may deem it appropriate in their territories, to make provision for the ordination of women to the gospel ministry?”
Carson told the Associated Press that he was raised Adventist, but that while studying at Yale University he went through a period where he considered leaving due to concerns over perceived prejudices against others.
He attended Roman Catholic, Methodist, Baptist and Lutheran services for a time, but ended up staying with Seventh-Day Adventism.
“I concluded it was the right church, just the wrong people. The church was very segregated,” Carson said. “You know, if you have the love of God in your heart, it seems like you wouldn’t do that. That has changed fairly significantly since that time.”
He explained that he doesn’t agree with founder Ellen G. White’s rejection of Roman Catholicism.
“I love Catholics,” Carson stated. “My best friend is Catholic. I have several honorary degrees from Catholic universities.”
As previously reported, fellow Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump clarified his remarks last week after some took his recent statement that he doesn’t “know about” Seventh Day Adventists to be a jab at Carson.
“I know nothing about it really. I’m a Presbyterian and I had mentioned that, and I did say I don’t know about it. And in fact those are my exact words,” Trump said on ABC’s This Week. “I didn’t say anything bad about it. I just don’t know about it. I would certainly give an apology if I said something bad about it. But I didn’t. All I said was I don’t know about it.”
At a campaign event in Iowa a day earlier, Trump appeared to some as portraying Carson’s faith as out of the mainstream.
“I love Iowa. And, look, I don’t have to say it, I’m Presbyterian,” Trump said. “Can you believe it? Nobody believes I’m Presbyterian. I’m Presbyterian. I’m Presbyterian. I’m Presbyterian. Boy, that’s down the middle of the road folks, in all fairness. I mean, Seventh-day Adventist, I don’t know about. I just don’t know about.”
Seventh-Day Adventists follow White’s teachings, who they believe to have been a prophetess. They observe Saturday as the Sabbath, and as White wrote in her book “The Great Controversy,” opine that “[w]hen Sunday observance shall be enforced by law, … those who continue in transgression [with Sunday worship] will receive ‘the mark of the beast.’”
“This church would not be where it is without the special guidance given it by God through Ellen White in the writings of the Spirit of Prophecy,” Ted N.C. Wilson, the grandson of SDA President Nathaniel Wilson stated last month at a Spirit of Prophecy Symposium at Andrews University. “In the Seventh-day Adventist Church we accept Ellen G. White as a modern servant of the Lord and prophet.”
Adventists also believe in the “annihilation of the wicked,” rejecting the doctrine of eternal torment out of their assertion that the Bible and early Christian writings “did not mean eternal punishing, but rather punishment in the world to come that ends in cessation of being,” as outlined in “The Conditionalist Faith of Our Fathers” by Adventist author LeRoy Edwin Froom. _______________________________________________________________

Ben Wright of CNBC thinks Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson’s campaign is done, toast, over after several attacks leveled agaisnt him by the mainstream media, particularly calling into question Carson's honesty regarding events in his book Gifted Hands. Calling one of the attacks a “devastating blow to Carson,” Wright asked, "The main question now is whether the revelation(s) will quickly drive Carson out of the race. And if it does, where will his cadre of supporters go?"
Wright claimed that Dr. Carson’s pushback, blaming the attacks on “media bias,” was unwarranted: "Saying you received a scholarship to West Point when you really did not has nothing to do with media bias. Who knows how many more things in Carson’s book will turn out not to be true? His campaign is over. The question is whether Carson knows it yet, and where his many supporters will turn next."
Wright was referring to the article in Politico that appeared late last week, charging that Carson lied about receiving a scholarship to West Point. But Politico wasn’t the only member of the national media that took aim at Carson’s credibility and character. CNN questioned Carson’s characterization of himself before he became a Christian as having a “pathological temper” which was illustrated, says Carson, when at age 14 he attacked one of his friends with a rock, breaking his glasses and putting a gash in his nose.
CNN poured significant resources in its attempt to verify and validate Carson’s story, but could find none. Reporters interviewed nine of Carson’s school classmates but none could confirm Carson’s story, and some expressed surprise, said CNN, that he even had a temper.
The obvious conclusion according to CNN is that the incident never happened, that Carson fabricated the story out of whole cloth to generate sympathy from his readers. CNN said Carson’s campaign staff was unhelpful when they sought additional sources they could check, quoting Carson’s business manager, Armstrong Williams, as responding via e-mail with: “Why would anyone cooperate with you in your obvious witch hunt?”
When one of CNN’s sleuths, in his search for truth and justice, confronted Carson personally about the unprovable incident, Carson responded: “I didn’t want to expose people without their knowledge. But remember, when I was 14 … that’s when I changed. That’s when most of the people … began to know who I was. They didn’t know me before then.“
Taking a softer approach but with the same goal in mind — questioning Carson’s credibility and character — theWall Street Journal’s sleuths interviewed more than 50 people who had been at Davenport College while Carson was a student at Yale, trying to confirm, or deny, any of the suspected embellishments, omissions, or inconsistencies. The lack of anyone’s confirming or denying led the Journal obliquely to suggest that Carson was again lying to gain sympathy for his lowly upbringing and how he managed to extricate himself from a background that ground so many others into dust.
The Journal complained that Yale couldn’t prove that Carson attended a class called Perceptions 301 in which the final exam papers had been “inadvertently burned,” requiring all the students to retake it. The new exam, according to Carson, was much tougher and, in protest, all the students walked out.
All except Carson: "The professor came toward me. With her was a photographer for the Yale Daily News who paused and snapped my picture. ['It was] a hoax,' the teacher said. 'We wanted to see who was the most honest student in the class.'” Carson then wrote that the professor rewarded him for his honesty with a $10 bill.
But the Journal could find no record of any such event, or any such class, or any such picture being taken: "No photo identifying Mr. Carson as a student ever ran, according to the Yale Daily News archives, and no stories from the era mention a class called Perceptions 301. Yale Librarian Claryn Spies said there was no psychology course by that name or class number during any of Mr. Carson’s years at Yale."
The Journal further distinguished itself by replaying a story which others in the media had “uncovered,” suggesting that Carson was somehow intimately “involved” with a controversial multi-level marketing company by making some speeches for the company and appearing, until recently, in some company videos appearing on the company’s website.
The big story — the one that most of the media focused on — came from a piece by Kyle Cheney that was published by Politico last week proclaiming in its headline that Carson lied about receiving a scholarship to West Point. The headline, “Ben Carson admits fabricating West Point scholarship,” was followed by this opening sentence: Ben Carson’s campaign on Friday admitted, in response to an inquiry from Politico, that a central point in his inspirational personal story was fabricated: his application and acceptance into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point."
Cheney then expounded upon the theme:
According to a story told in Carson’s book, Gifted Hands, the then-17-year-old was introduced in 1969 to Gen. William Westmoreland, who had just ended his command of U.S. forces in Vietnam, and the two dined together. That meeting, according to Carson’s telling, was followed by a “full scholarship” to the military academy. When presented with these facts, Carson’s campaign conceded the story was false.
When bloggers began to raise substantive questions about Cheney’s claims, Politico revised the original article (which can no longer be found either at Politico or at backup internet archives) and added this disclaimer to the revised edition:
Editor’s note: POLITICO stands by its reporting on this story, which has been updated to reflect Ben Carson’s on the record response. The original story and headline said that Carson’s’ campaign admitted he “fabricated” a “full scholarship” from West Point, but now Carson denies that his campaign’s statement constituted such an admission, and the story and headline were changed to reflect that.
After looking into the matter, Mollie Hemingway, writing at the Federalist, had major problems with the revised Politico article:
There were at least five major problems with the story:
The headline was completely false
The subhead was also completely false
The opening paragraph was false false false
The substance of the piece was missing key exonerating information
The article demonstrated confusion about service academy admissions and benefits.
Carson himself had serious problems with the media attacks and finally pushed back. On Friday night, speaking at the Black Republican Caucus of South Florida, he said, “A lot of people think that I’m soft because I’m quiet. I think they’re starting to find out that I’m not soft. And that I can be loud, particularly when injustice is being done.”
Taking on the CNN article, Carson said: “This is a bunch of lies, that is what it is. This is a bunch of lies attempting to say I’m lying about my history. I think it’s pathetic, and basically what the media does is they try to get you distracted.”
Regarding the Politico article, Carson told reporters the piece was a “bold-faced lie.” Further unburdening himself on Sunday, Carson told the New York Times in an interview: "It was, you know, an informal 'with a record like yours we could easily get you a scholarship to West Point.'”
Later that day, on NBC’s Meet the Press, Carson decried the double standard the national media is applying to him with its attacks, especially when compared to the media’s soft-glove handling of Obama’s birth certificate and his questionable eligibility to be president. He said the media perceive him to be a threat that must be neutralized: I’m a threat to the progressives [and] the secular progress movement in this country. I’m a very big threat. They can look at the polling data, and they can see that I’m the candidate most likely to beat Hillary Clinton."
As far as Ben Wright’s prediction that Carson’s campaign has ended on the rocks of these disclosures, that flies in the face of his remarkable fundraising that took place last week as those attacks were being leveled. In a tweet on Sunday, Carson thanked the biased media for giving him all the attention: “We the People have made 10,000 donations each day this week, raising $3.5 million this week alone. Thank you, biased media.”
