Another MSNBC host has bitten the dust.
Melissa Harris-Perry is out after a bitter feud between her and the network when public. Harris-Perry said in a letter that her show had been repeatedly superseded by election coverage, and implied that the network was making these programming decisions for racial reasons.
Harris-Perry, a professor described by one prominent writer as the nation’s foremost public intellectual, focused on race, Obama boosterism, and culture during her time at MSNBC.
During that time, she had more than her share of strange moments on the air, from leading a cringe-worthy panel discussion mocking Mitt Romney’s black infant grandson—for which she later apologized—to asking the sitting attorney general to quack like a duck.
Harris-Perry did an extended segment comparing the term Obamacare to the “N-word,” complained that the movie character Darth Vader was racist, and explained why she felt the term “hard worker” was potentially offensive because of slavery.
She suggested Democrats should show more “swagger” about defending Obamacare by saying to individuals who lost their health care coverage because of the law, “Yeah, you can’t keep your crappy plan, just deal with that!” Harris-Perry once noted sagely that men who shot their wives with “legal guns” would not do so “if they did not have them.”
Back in 2013 when MSNBC was fully embracing its progressive identity, Harris-Perry shot perhaps the most badly-received “Lean Forward” ad for the network, suggesting that children should be raised communally in order to encourage more investment for education. Or something.
“We haven’t had a very collective notion of ‘these are our children,’ so part of it is we have to break through our private idea that kids belong to their parents,” she said.
In Feb. 2015, liberal pundits Ronan Farrow, Joy Reid, Al Sharpton, Ed Schultz and Alex Wagner enjoyed daily hosting gigs at MSNBC. Only Sharpton still has a hosting job, and his show was relegated to Sunday mornings at 8 a.m.

MSNBC confirmed Sunday morning that it has cut ties with Melissa Harris-Perry after her very public attack on the network over having her airtime repeatedly preempted by election coverage.
Rumors of Harris-Perry’s imminent departure have been flying ever since Friday’s publication of an email where Harris-Parry accused the cable network of trying to silence her and sideline her program.
